WELCOME TO THE ITALIAN FOOTBALL MANAGER!!!
══════════════════════════════════════════
Your goal in this game is to take charge of a football team in the Italian
leagues and manage them to the first place in the first division, starting
at the bottom of the 4th division.
GETTING STARTED
───────────────
To run the game, just type 'italy'. When confronted with the main menu, make
your choice using the cursor keys and then press ENTER. When starting a new
game, you will have to type in your team's name. By just pressing ENTER, you
will automatically get the name 'Romanese'.
To design your teams clothes use the cursor keys to select different sections
and colours and press <ENTER> ONLY when you have finished doing so. All the
designing is done via the cursor keys. Choose the difficulty level you wish
to play at.
THE GAME
────────
During the first two weeks you will not be able to make any transfers. You
can view your current squad and look at their individual stats. The number
which appears with each player indicates how good he is, 0 being the worst and
500 the best. A player's rating may even go higher than 500, depending on how
good he plays. This is only a measurement of how good a player is.
TRANSFERS
─────────
Transfers can only be made every 3rd week and a maximum of 5 at a time.
You can buy players from other clubs in Italy, or internationals playing
outside Italy. When making an offer for a player, you must consider the
following facts: Good players are hard to get, because their clubs won't let
go of them that easy, unless you can come up with the money. You can offer a
club less for a player than he is actually worth, but that will decrease your
chances of getting the deal. Any offer less than 75% of the player's price will
be rejected by a club. High offers will result in better chances. If your
offer was rejected, you will have to wait 10 games before you can make an
offer for the same player again. When selling your players, you can't ask too
much, for clubs don't like to pay too much. Anything more than double a
player's price will be rejected by other clubs. If a club rejects your offer,
you will have to wait 5 games before you can attempt to sell the player again.
Clubs will also not buy any player that is injured or suspended. At the start
of the game, it is good to sell players at every opportunity and buy better
players to replace them so that you can start building a good team that will
get promotion (or avoid relegation!). Depending on which level you are playing,
you will soon find out what the average rating is you will need to survive in
each division. These are roughly the figures for level EASY:
Serie C/2 - 60 ( Remember these figures can't guarentee survival.)
Serie C/1 - 140 ( For winning the different divisions, your rating )
Serie B - 280 ( should be 100 more than the survival rating. This )
Serie A - 400 ( is only a guideline and you can even win a division )
( on the survival rating or be relegated on the )
( winning rating. )
HINT : To make money (and thus buy better players), always try to sell players
at double their value. If clubs don't take them, try again later, also
for double the value.
FINANCES
────────
Your finances are very important. The better your team perform, the more
people will attend the games and the higher your income will be. You must
also pay your players a weekly fee (each player has a fixed fee which might
increase if they stay at your club long enough), pay money to keep your
grounds in shape and some diverse expenses. You will also have to keep an eye
on the following things:
-Stadium capacity : You must build seats for your stadium. Remember - the
bigger your stadium, the more people can come and watch and the bigger
your income will be. Use the indicator at the match report to see how
many people attended your match. If there wasn't a 100% attendance, then
you don't need to enlarge your stadium. A friendly word of warning -
don't go into dept. Remember, Italy boasts the finest football league in
the world and obviously the people will attend Serie A matches in their
thousands. For security reasons you must have 50 000 seats at your
stadium before entering Serie A. If you don't meet the standards, you
will stay in Serie B. It is not necessary to expand your stadium beyond
100 000 seats. At normal speed, seats are build at a rate of 500 seats
per week. High speed is dubble as fast, but three times as expensive.
-Pitch Condition : You need at least some grass on your pitch to get promotion
to Serie C1 and you need smooth full grass pitches to get promotion after
that. Draining is necessary to keep your pitch in its current condition.
-Scoreboard/Floodlights : The scoreboard and floodlights will increase your
home income per spectator, because with floodlights you can host night
games which is more convenient for spectators and the scoreboard will
increase the quality of the services you provide to your spectators.
-Ground facilities : With bad facilities you can only accommedate small
crowds, because they have no parking near the stadium and the restroom
facilities are unefficient. The better your facilities, the better your
attendences will be, depending on your log position of course.
-Press facilities : This determine the publicity your team gets which directly
influences sponsor interests in your team. If you can't provide good
publicity, you will very easily loose a sponsor and it will be very
difficult to get one back. On the other hand, good press facilities will
result in better sponsorship opportunities and sponsorship bonusses.
-Medical staff : The main use for the medical staff is to reduce injuries to
your players. The better your medical staff is, the better the chances
will be that a player will need less time to recover from a injury. On
the other hand, the better your medical staff, the higher their fees will
be.
-Youth team : As any good club, you also have a youth scheme at your club. The
more money you put into it, the sooner you may reap the results. The youth
team produces players for your senior squad and the more money you put into
it, the sooner and more often they will produce players.
-Ground Maintenance : The various facilities you have at the stadium, obviously
won't last forever. But you can slow down its degrading by paying more money
for the maintenance. If you don't pay much money, expect your scoreboard,
floodlights, press and ground facilities to deteriote with reular intervals.
GENERAL INFORMATION
───────────────────
Your "General Information" option can be very helpful. Here you can see how
many players you have and how many you may select for the next match. Only
three international players allowed per match. You can see which team you will
play next and where, how many cups and tournaments you have won, and in which
division you are playing. Pressing 'R' will show you your team's full record
up to date, including all previous seasons. Pressing 'F' will display the
full fixtures for the season (in the league) and the results of those games
already played.
QUITTING AND SAVING
───────────────────
At any time you can save your current game and then later continue it, but
when you save a game, you will overwrite the game previously saved at the same
number. Five games can thus be saved at a time. Just go to the 'Quit Game'
option and select "Save" and choose a number.
PLAYER SELECTION
────────────────
Selecting your team for the next match is done by simply moving the selector
bar to the player and pressing ENTER to select or unselect. Remember that you
must always try to have 11 players fit for a game. Injured players and
players sent off in a previous game won't be able to play in matches. Also
try to select a well balanced team, not just defenders or strikers. The
strength of your team is calculated by taking the average of the players you
have selected. Remember, only 3 internationals per game. Full-backs,
half-backs and sweepers all count as defenders. Wings count as midfielders
and forwards also count as strikers. Select at least 1 goalkeeper, 3 backs,
3 midfielders and 2 strikers. You can select the other 2 players in positions
you feel need improvement.
The computer will then take charge and display all the results, reports of the
game and transfers made by other clubs. The match report should be read and
taken seriously. You can choose if you want to see the results of all the
divisions, or only your division. The same option applies for viewing the logs.
CUPS AND TOURNAMENTS
────────────────────
Besides playing in the league, you will also be playing for the knock-out
cup. During the season, you will receive more information on this using the
"General Information" option. During the off-season, you can also participate
in friendly tournaments. Although they are sometimes quite hard to win ,
they can be financially rewarding in prize money. The top groups have good
teams and the bottom groups have weaker teams. If you are anything below
Serie B, your chances of winning will be quite slim. If you are really good,
you can also qualify for one of the three European-cup competitions, the UEFA,-
Champions,- and Cup Winners Cup. To qualify for them, you need to be the
Italian Cup winners, Serie A champions or finish among the first 4 teams that
have not qualified by one way or another for a European competition. By winning
a European competition, you automatically qualify for it the next season. If the
Italian cup winners are also the Serie A champions, then the runners-up in the
Italian cup will qualify for the Cup Winners Cup. If you qualify for more than
one competition, you will be entered only into one. The order of significance
is : Champions,- Cup Winners,-and UEFA cup. If you win the Champions Cup, it
means that you are the best club in Europe, for all the champions of the other
countries enter this competition. You can also play in the World Club Cup final,
which is contested between the European and South American champions, the
European Super Cup (European Champions vs. European Cup Winners) and the Italian
Super Cup (Italian Champs vs. Italian Cup Winners).
ENDING THE GAME
───────────────
You can play as many seasons as you want, but the game will end as soon as you
have won everything you can (Serie A, Italian Cup, Champions Cup, UEFA Cup
and Cup Winners Cup). Then you have achieved everything possible and you will
retire.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IMPORTANT : On the shareware version of the game, you will only be allowed to
play three seasons in Serie A, then the program will terminate.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you have any problems with memory (a message 'Far Heap Allocate' might
occur), try to remove some memory resident programs and try again.
