AltJ with AltL Blocking (Line Justification)
AltJ with AltL blocking permits you to define exactly which lines you
want to justify. The marked area is first reformatted, and then each
line is justified. If the last line is too short, it will not be
justified unless the last line is the only line.
Move the cursor to the top line of the paragraph above and press AltL.
Then move the cursor to the bottom line of the paragraph above and
press AltL again. Now press AltJ.
Notice that the paragraph is blocked to the margin extremes.
When you justify in this manner, the justification will ignore the
INDENT character on the TAB line if you specified one.
Press the PgDn Key
CtrlJ with CtrlB Blocking (Column Justification)
Move the cursor to the M Now press the Enter key and
at the beginning of this sentence you will see that the column
and press CtrlB. Now move of information is justified
the cursor just above the "^" without changing the location
character and press CtrlB again, of any text in this paragraph.
and then press CtrlJ.
(^)
The 'L' and 'R' define the extents of the blocked area and may be
moved as you wish to make the column of text wider or narrower. Do it
again, but this time move the R two characters to the left before
pressing the Enter key. This feature is also very useful on a single
column of information for you can easily relocate it and justify it at
the same time.
NOTE: You must include ALL the text to be justified WITHIN the blocked
area.
Press the PgDn Key
AltJ with CtrlB Blocking (New Margins)
This justifying technique is extremely useful. It allows you to
redefine the margins for a block of text without having to change the
TAB and Margin definitions, justify, and then go back and reset the
margins again. Move the cursor to the character "j" on the first line
of this paragraph above the leftmost "^" character and press CtrlB.
Now move the cursor to the character "e" on the last line of this
paragraph above the rightmost "^" character and press CtrlB again.
Now press AltJ. Notice that the paragraph has been rejustified
according to where it was blocked without changing the TAB line.
(^) (^)
Notice that since the margins were shortened, additional lines were
added to the text.
Press the PgDn Key
CtrlJ with No Blocking (Paragraph Justification)
CtrlJ will justify the entire paragraph containing the cursor without
any marking. If an area in the file is marked with AltL or CtrlL, the
markings will be ignored, (although a warning message will be issued
since the blocking will be cleared before doing the justifying).
CtrlJ will honor any INDENT specification you may have made on the TAB
line. It will also reposition the cursor at the beginning of the next
paragraph when justification has been completed. Place the cursor
here (*) and press CtrlJ.
(The cursor should be moved to this line.)
Press the PgDn Key
Special NO Reformat Lines with Justification
If you opted to press CtrlJ with no blocking, (or AltL or CtrlL
blocking), and the cursor was between the special NO Reformat lines as
seen below, no action would take place. These lines are primarily
used to protect an area from being reformatted if you use a Keystroke
Macro to reformat your entire file.
Place the cursor in this area
and press CtrlJ.
Notice that nothing is changed.
The other types of justification, however, will be honored inside the
NO reformat area. These lines are obtained by pressing F8/F7 and then
F3 or F4.
