Press the PgDn Key
MOVING BETWEEN THE TEXT AND THE COMMAND LINE
By far the most useful feature of the Esc key, is that it is the only
way to get to the Command Line. You may exit the Command Line with a
few other keys such as the Up and Down arrow keys, but you can only
get to the Command Line with the Esc key.
Of course you can get out of the Command Line with the Esc key also.
If you do, the cursor will move to the point on the screen where it
was before the Command Line was entered.
Press the Esc key a few times just to see.
Press the PgDn Key
IT IS DIFFICULT TO OVEREMPHASIZE THE Esc KEY IN PC-TYPE+
Almost everywhere within PC-TYPE+, Esc is used to return to your
editing session.
For example, Press F8 and then press Esc.
Press F8, F2 and then press Esc.
Press F8, F8 and then press Esc.
(*) Move the cursor to the asterisk at the left and press CtrlB. Move
the cursor to the asterisk at the right and press CtrlB again (*).
Now Press F7, F5 and then Esc.
Press F1 and then press Esc.
The Esc key is used in this manner consistently throughout PC-TYPE+.
If you are ever in doubt, TRY Esc FIRST!.
Press the PgDn Key
OTHER USES FOR THE Esc KEY
Esc will stop the definition of a Keystroke Macro.
Esc will stop a Keystroke Macro which is running.
Esc will exit you from any menu.
Esc will return you to your editing screen if you press F9, ShF9, or
CtrlF9 accidentally and don't really want to save the file yet.
Esc will stop a global find and replace which is in progress.
Esc will stop Mail Merge in progress.
Esc will exit you from redefining your Tabs.
Esc will exit you from Importing PC-FILE data.
ALWAYS TRY Esc FIRST!
Press the PgDn Key
Esc VS CtrlK IN KEYSTROKE MACRO
One place Esc will not work is inside a repeating Keystroke Macro
which has been defined with CtrlK to permit user keyin. As soon as
the cursor changes shape, Esc will only toggle you between the Command
Line and the Text.
If you press Esc before the repeating macro places you back inside the
CtrlK option, the Macro will stop.
The best way to exit such a Macro is to cause a message to be written
to the Message Line when you are in the CtrlK mode. The easiest way
to do this is to press Ctrl PgUp and then press the Up arrow, (or Ctrl
PgDn and then press the Down arrow) but any message will do, even the
"Are You Sure?" from F4 or Ctrl Break.
Press F4 to Return to the HELP Menu
