DEFINING PRINTER ESCAPE CODES
You may set the escape codes to be sent to your printer, (for
functions such as turning BOLD on and off, etc.), by going to the
MODIFY DEFAULTS panel by pressing F8 and then F2. Once in this panel,
move the Option Selection Bar by pressing the TAB key until it is
above the field "Printer Escape Codes". Once there, press F10 and the
"Print Marker and Code Definition" panel (displayed on a later screen
in this HELP file) will be displayed.
NOTE: If you escape from the "Print Marker and Code Definition"
sub-panel by pressing the Esc Key, no changes you made while in
the panel will become active. If you leave the panel by
pressing F10, then all your changes will be recorded.
Press the PgDn Key
WHAT ARE YOU SETTING?
Bold is turned on at the beginning of this line and turned off at the
end of this sentence . The color, (or attribute) you see on the "B"
and on the period may be set by you in the Print Marker and Code
Definition panel. When you print a file in which you have made such
marks, PC-TYPE+ will see that Bold must be turned on before sending
the "B" to your printer, and must be turned off after sending the
period to your printer.
To turn Bold on and off, a sequence of special characters must be sent
to your printer. In the Print Marker and Code Definition panel, you
specify what these special characters must be. (Alas, there are no
standards in the printer world!) PC-TYPE+ will find the characters you
specified and send them to your printer wherever you requested to do
so in your file.
Press the PgDn Key

Press the PgDn Key
In this panel, the TAB key will again move the Option Selection Bar.
When the bar is on a "Printer Code Description" field, (such as:
"Italics On"), You may modify the name to whatever you want with
the twelve character positions available. The titles you supply in
these fields will be displayed whenever you press F3, the Print
Character Function Key.
While it is assumed that you will have 6 pairs of escape codes, each
pair consisting of turning a printer option on and off, it is not
necessary to have pairs since they do not work together. All in all,
therefore, you have 12 printer escape sequences available to you.
Notice that the Option Selection Bar will not go to the Underline Off
and On fields. This is because underlining requires special
programming inside PC-TYPE+ itself, hence it reserves these two
locations for the underlining function.
Press the PgDn Key
Print Marker Screen Display Attributes
You may modify the screen display attributes of the Print Markers
(which will appear in your text when you set an Escape code, e.g.,
Bold On), by moving the Option Selection Bar to the "Screen Display
Attribute" field.
AltF's will change the Foreground attribute (color) sequentially.
CtrlF's will change the Foreground attribute in the reverse direction.
AltB's will change the Background attribute (color) sequentially.
CtrlB's will change the Background attribute in the reverse direction.
The numbers to the right will show you that indeed something is
happening if you are doing this on a monochrome monitor. You can see
the effect of your changes in the corresponding "Printer Escape Codes"
field.
Press the PgDn Key
Setting the Escape Codes
Finally, the Escape codes themselves may be changed by moving the
Option Selection Bar to the "Printer Escape Codes" fields. Inside
these fields, hold down the Alt key and press the decimal number
corresponding to the Escape code number required.
For example, to get the "Esc" character "", hold down the Alt key and
press the 2 and then the 7 on the number pad to the right of your
keyboard. Then release the Alt key. Of course standard characters
such as "E" may be typed in the normal manner.
Since the decimal 0 value cannot be entered in any fashion on the
keyboard, you may enter the characters "(0)" (quotes not included)
and PC-TYPE+ will convert this to the decimal zero when necessary.
Press F10 when finished - save your defaults if you wish, and you're
done.
