In April 1915 British and French assault troops landed on Gallipoli Peninsula with the object of capturing Constantinople (After 1926 officially named Istanbul). In the 'secret treaties', Britain and France promised Constantinople and the Straits to Russia. But the Turks are not willing to give up Constantinople and are prepairing the launch of a counter attack.
The Austrian-Hungarian army is a unique multi-national force. But due to the poor leadership the ordinary soldiers suffered heavy casualties. During the first nine month of the war casualties exceeded 2 million.
