- Interview with Chris Holland
- known as <link=g18.scr>CiH</l> / Maggie Team
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Grey: Hand-shake, CiH!
-
- CiH: And a big hearty hi-ho of a hello to you Grey!
-
- Grey: I've got a great chance to lead this interview in real-time
- at EIL 2001! I hope this time won't be wasted for you Chris?
-
- CiH: I could be forthcoming and chatty, or I could be quiet?! Depends
- what you want to ask me!
-
- Grey: Well, don't worry pal! I won't give you a weird questions.. not now
- anyway :)) Let's start with the first shot concerning EIL party -
- what's Your 1st impression?
-
- CiH: Well in a lot of ways, it's as if we've never been away! I found
- the Reservoir Gods, who haven't really been together that much over
- the last two years talking to each other and arsing around as if
- they had never left the party venue from the original 1999 event.
- Of course it is cool to see everyone else, and I feel that perhaps
- this time, I've got closer to a number of people than at any
- previous party (hi Grey!)
-
- Grey: BTW - What happend to the MSG? He seems to be quite silent now,
- we miss this "HEEEEEEEEEEY!" he was screaming at 1st EIL edition.
-
- CiH: Maybe when he started working, they confiscated his vocal chords as
- one of the lesser-known conditions of employment. I've been in the
- Reservoir Gods grotto a fair few times, and Malc is exactly the same
- as before. This time, he is busier, working on several tunes for
- the new RG productions. So I think that he simply hasn't had the
- time to say "HEEeeeey!" this time.
-
- Grey: And he walks in the sleeping bag since he arrived.. ok, let's skip
- it ;)
-
- Grey: Chris, how do you feel seeing that many Atari magazines still in
- the pipe-line? Short before EIL it seemed that all magazines were
- fading away, and take a look now: UCM seems to be resurrected,
- Alive! is nearly to be released, Ascii Nation released at the party
- and Maggie zine didn't die as some ppl thought.
-
- CiH: It is always cool to see more diskmags. ST Survivor, Moondog and I
- were talking about this point as well. The real surprise is the
- return of UCM, I thought Moondog had stopped active participation
- in the Atari scene. ST Survivor was suffering a crisis of motivation
- a few weeks ago, but managed to pull himself around. As for ASCII
- Nation, I suppose that is a surprise to most people, as this was
- a one-off special produced for EIL part 2. There may well be more
- similar productions, but that is going to be in a timescale of my
- choosing.
-
- Maggie, what can I say. It isn't dead, but very quiet. Mr Pink and
- co want to carry on, but it will be with a new menu shell with new
- features. I can exclusively reveal that some early concept ideas are
- being thrown around the Reservoir Gods HQ at the moment. The killer
- here is going to be the amount of time that people have got, so
- don't hold your breath for that one!
-
- We nearly forgot this wonderful Falcon enhanced production, in which
- this interview is being hosted at the moment!
-
- Grey: What do you think about groups which releases stuff for 14MB
- Falcons? Please, say Your true opinion, don't worry about MSB guys.
- Do You really think it's a real step forward in comparison to other
- scenes? Would you call ppl being "sick" 'coz of that?
-
- CiH: I think it's cool to release stuff for higher-spec machines. I also
- think it is cool that CPU accelerators and suchlike are supported as
- well. In comparison to other scenes, the Atari scene has always been
- a bit conservative or backward in supporting upgraded hardware.
- If you contrast, say, the Amiga scene, or even a lot of the 8-Bit
- scenes, where hardware upgrades have been enthusiastically
- supported. I am encouraged by a couple of things at this party.
- Firstly there is an enthusiastic take-up for Grey's 14MB RAM
- upgrades, often from people who were previously not in favour of
- these (Hi Moondog!) Secondly, that some demos at least will make
- full use of accelerators such as CT2.
-
- In short, I don't think these people are "sick", just providing
- a good reason for future hardware development to continue.
-
- Grey: Another hard question comes. Latest time on DHS bulletin board we
- could notice a strange war about possibility to show C-64 demos at
- EIL party. Do we really should to spend every second watching Atari
- related stuff we've seen 1000 times already? Isn't this interesting
- to see what happens on other alternative machines just like C-64?
-
- CiH: That isn't really a hard question (grin!) It certainly is
- interesting to see what other scenes are doing. It may give
- some Atari coders some new ideas for things to do!
-
- Grey: Exactly, that's also my point of view =)))
-
- Grey: Ok, I think that I should let Chris to take some fresh air 'coz he
- looks on the clock every minute :)) (grin!)
-
- Chris, anything else to say to Chosneck readers?
-
- CiH: Yeah, there's all the usual "stay Atari!" stuff, but I would also
- say if there is another Error in Line or other cool Atari party,
- then do everything you can to get to it, you won't regret a single
- moment!
-
- Stay brave people!!
-
- CiH signing off...
