  86. How does this new release sound?  I've got it on pre-order with one of my import
  87. dealers, but I may not see it for a few months here in America.  Is it similar 
  88. in style to previous Claudia releases, or is she going in new directions?

  230.  Hello all.  Thought I should let everyone know that the US release of the
  231. 808 State album "Don Solaris" will be officially released on August 19 here
  232. in the states under the Cleopatra label.  I haven't heard anything about
  233. promo's or singles yet, but if I here anything, I'll definately post!  I
  234. did hear that Cleopatra doesn't do much promoting, so I will just hope for
  235. the best!

  419. p.s.  I was not impressed by either of the remixes on this single.  They
  420. were a confused attempt at applying the American Soul sound (that is all
  421. over the place today).  There have been discussions about the value of a
  422. remix when it moves the music so far away from the source.  This is yet
  423. another example of what not to do.

  448. I saw them in New Haven, CT, USA for the Gorgeous tour.  It was in a
  449. fairly small nightclub and VERY loud.  My ears were ringing for at least
  450. a day and a half after.

  559. this is actually a pretty good track. i was pleasantly surprised...
  560.  
  561. it's a fairly mellow, laid-back track - quite ambient in feel. it reminds me a 
  562. little of the Angelo Badalamenti/Julie Cruise stuff from Twin Peaks.

  564. claudia speaks most of the vocals (except a sung chorus), a la dream within a 
  565. dream.

  567. the song is fairly 'fruity', but one of the suggestive lyrics just makes me 
  568. laugh out loud!

  573. ooh err! another track this reminds me of is that gillian anderson track that 
  574. came out recently, although a lot better (obviously).

  576. the 'vibe dub' is the compulsory drum 'n bass workout, and although it's pretty 
  577. obvious in places, it actually works quite well. the remixer is 'nathan e' (?).

  579. the 'blakket..' mix, is a much more uptempo, thumping bass remix, but there are 
  580. NO VOCALS, which renders it pretty pointless. mixed by Mark Bell (LFO?).
  581.  
  582. the 'medic' mix is much better, with a lighter bassline, and some of the spoken 
  583. vocals. however, they have been slightly treated to make them sound vaguely 
  584. computerised - although not in a 'speak and spell' way...
  585.

  673. Wish."  I live in the U.S., and to my knowledge, there have been two
  674. releases of A Secret Wish here (one by WEA and the other by PGD).  Both,
  675. unfortunately, do not have the correct tracks on them. (Frozen Faces is
  676. completely omitted, among other differences.)  A friend of mine had a
  677. version of A Secret Wish that had "Jewel" with the lyrics to "Duel" plus
  678. "Frozen Faces."  Is there a version of this cd currently in print
  679. anywhere?  I've seen UK, Japanese, and German imports of A Secret Wish
  680. here in the U.S., but I don't want to buy the cd unless I know what I'm
  681. getting.  Any help would be greatly appreciated . . .

  776. These three releases are the only releases of 'A Secret Wish' on CD that I
  777. know of (except for the German version, and I believe that track listing is
  778. the same as the US version.  If someone out there knows, please post).  The
  779. US CD is still in print, and very easy to find, but unfortunately does not
  780. contain Frozen Faces.  If you can score the Japanese release (WPCR-20) you
  781. can not only have Frozen faces, but 4 excellent bonus tracks.  I bought
  782. mine from CD Banzai (www.cdbanzai.com).  Be warned however, it can take up
  783. to three months to get your CD, and there's no guarantee you'll get it all
  784. (they'll refund your money whenever you ask).  You may still be able to
  785. find the UK release (CID 126) in a used CD store (got mine for $2!!). But,
  786. if you can find it, go with the Japanese release.

  835. This depends very heavily on your definition of "correct tracks".  The US
  836. CD(s) of A Secret Wish all track exactly as the LP version did, though they
  837. do have the wrong tracklist printed on the back.

  843. I assume your friend has the original import (UK/GE) version of the CD.  The
  844. album isn't in print in that exact configuration, but the most recent UK
  845. pressing I know of -- the 1994 ZTT Tenth Anniversary issue -- is pretty close
  846. and has both of the tracks you ask after.

  938. video. I have a copy, from PolyGram Video. "Peter Gunn" most certainly
  939. *was* live on mine. It did not sound too terribly live, though, due to
  940. technological constraints. 
  941.   Duane Eddy's guitar is set up with a low bridge and his custom tuning
  942. (I believe down to "A"), thusly, making it unique and *hard* to
  943. duplicate. The piece opens w/ a direct studio sample of Duane's
  944. galloping start-up and the drum roll. All else was done by Dave Bronze
  945. on a Roland GR-7 MIDI guitar; hence the non-live sound. The GR-7, as I
  946. remember, has no formal pickups on it and it was never engineered to put
  947. out an accoustic/electric sound. Only MIDI signal goes out. In this
  948. case, it was piped to J.J's Fairlight CMI series IIx (it might have been
  949. a series III) where they tweaked the closest sounding sample to sound
  950. even closer (to the edit? Tee Hee) to Duane. Unfortunately, it didn't
  951. work very well. But, they gave it their best.
  952.   As for Andy's copys: you may have been ripped off, man. Or it may have
  953. been a manufacturing flaw (but, twice?). My copy is in stereo, only
  954. displaying the Dolby Sound logo. It's not very noticable unless you wear
  955. headphones for the event. The most ammount of stereo play is during the
  956. montage sequence of "Hammersmith To Odeon and Back" ("Backbeat") and
  957. Dave's solo on their slightly reprogrammed "Beat Box" rendition.
  958.   Hope I cleared things up, at least, a little.

  980.  There has been some confusion about the playlist for A Secret Wish. I
  981. have had this problem with other ZTT cuts, as well. At that time, their
  982. UK and US releases were usually the same. What I have found -not that
  983. I'm making an investigation out of the issiue- is that the playlists are
  984. correct for the original releases, but not for reissiues. I, personally
  985. feel that this is deliberate. The original issues would, then, have
  986. another way of being identified and have more monetary worth this way.
  987.   FGTH's Welcome to the Pleasuredome (CD) is like this: "the last voice"
  988. and "the ballad of 32" (my GOD, what a sultry piece!) are indepenent
  989. tracks, but, not listed as such on the playlist. Plus, the original
  990. release had the 7" radio edit of "Two Tribes", here, in the US. The
  991. re-release has a very long mix, but not quite the 12" extended cut. It
  992. also lacks the segue commentary following "Born To Run".
  993.   "Into Battle With The Art Of Noise" re-issiues lack a *very* short,
  994. but, sweet, remix of "Moments In Love" (I contend that this is where
  995. Enigma got their idea for "Sadeness". They have the same drum line. It
  996. was beautiful!).
  997.   **As a side note, the 12" single of P-Machinery has "Frozen Faces" on
  998. it as a B-side cut.
  999.   Adding to the confusion, I notice that cassettes do not have this
  1000. playlist continuity problem. If anyone has a company answer, it would be
  1001. *greatly* appreciated.

  1029. A good explanation, however it's not what actually happened on that
  1030. night in Hammersmith (I was there!)
  1031.  
  1032. Four guitarists were introduced individually by name, and all
  1033. simultaneously ad-libbed on the theme of Peter Gunn with backing by AoN
  1034. (heavily featuring Dave Bronze as you described). This made an
  1035. excellent, very different version of Peter Gunn, (which I later found on
  1036. a very shoddy bootleg audio tape of that night's show, and was followed
  1037. with an encore of Glen Miller's "In the Mood", which to the best of my
  1038. knowledge never surfaced on a commercial release at all.)
  1039.  
  1040. This bears no relation to the version on my videos (and by the
  1041. decription, yours too!), which was why I stated that it was not live...
  1042. it could very well be from the Tokyo performances though but it struck
  1043. me at the time as a 'fake live version' made by stripping away some
  1044. tracks from the studio track - what AoN would have mimed to if the
  1045. fairlight had crashed perhaps? I would also hazard a guess that for the
  1046. real live version to appear on the video would have required paying
  1047. these 4 guitarists extra money - hence the version that ended up on the
  1048. tape?

  1050. Also of note are the discrepancies in track length on "Hammersmith To
  1051. Odeon and Back" (aka "Backbeat"/"Beatback") between the bootleg, the
  1052. "live" video and the even less live LP version - all minutes different
  1053. in length!

  1055. When played live at hammersmith, there was lots of heavily separated
  1056. stereo, notably in the intro to "close to the edit" which had each
  1057. alternate "vroom" panned hard left then right - very different to my
  1058. video at least.

  1204. I enjoy the US CD of Grace Jones' Slave to the Rhythm very much -- and I 
  1205. understand the Europe version of the CD is different with some alternate 
  1206. mixes.  Are the differences interesting? Is this other version still in 
  1207. print?  Anybody know where I can pick it up?
  1208. I miss Trevor Horn's BIG PRODUCTION SOUND -- I'm forced to go back to his 
  1209. earlier releases 'cause his new stuff is so conventional and dull.

  1268. Technically, this is true.  However, during the early releases of A
  1269. Secret Wish in the States, the track listing did match the CD.  The
  1270. reason?  CD production wasn't really up to par in the States once CD's
  1271. first came out so many early CD releases were overseas versions released
  1272. with a US longbox (remember those?).  Apparently, once the production
  1273. changed over to the US, they kept the same album artwork not knowing (or
  1274. caring?) that the track listing had changed.

  1301. IHMO, the US version is *much* better than the European one.  The latter
  1302. lacks all those atmospheric interview fragments and mostly contaions only
  1303. shorter versions of the actual songs.
  1304. The only rational reason to get it, is the longer version of 'The Frog and
  1305. The Princess'.  But rationality isn't exactly at the right place when dealing
  1306. with ZTT, or with music in general.
  1307. Personally I would really miss this version!  In fact, it's only 30 seconds
  1308. prolonged - but what should I say: it's good old ZTT/TCH!

  1310. However, I think it's still in print in Europe.  Within the 'Island Masters'
  1311. series.  I know of the following issues:
