It's an edit of the Ollie J remix. Not very different from the radio edit
as far as I remember.
BTW. Spice Girls beat FGTH by having the first four singles clocking at
no. one in the British charts.

Hi all,
I am new to this list and I am inquiring about FGTH. I am curious as to what
the former members of FGTH are doing now.....??? Last I heard Holly was
battling aids, any news on this?? I am a long time fan of FGTH and have most
of thier stuff and also I have the first Holly Johnson solo. I discovered
the band when my girl friend at the time had gone out and bought the first
release. She only liked relaxed (at first) and left it in my car.So I gave it
a listen and I did not take it out of my tape deck for 6 months!! It has
become my fav or as I like to refer to it..my DESERT ISLAND DISC !
Now this took place back in "84 or "85 ...when ever FGTH first came out.I
have gone thru 3 copies on tape of the first release.I now own most of thier
material on cd....
Anyways, I am really curious as to what the mates have been up to these last
few years so any info would be appreciated !!!!
Thanks and take care all!!

I think it was more an instrumental/dub of the Ollie J mix. Definately much
longer than Ollie's Seven Inches... (though not exactly tweleve...)
So it's not an edit in the sense of a radio edit.

Packaging questions:
Is the magenta "Close-Up" sleeve the only UK picture sleeve that "Close (To
The Edit)" was ever issued in? I now own three variants on "Close" that came
in that sleeve, and can't recall ever having seen another design.
Also: Does anyone here know of a "(beta wraparound of) p:Machinery" picture
sleeve other than the one with the purplish pattern on it and a die-cut hole
the size of the label?
Thanks!

Yes it is. All different UK 12" pressings have been in exactly the same
picture sleeve. Some (i.e. the one with the single edit as fourth track) may
have been additionally stickered, though.
> Also: Does anyone here know of a "(beta wraparound of) p:Machinery" picture

Only the reissue (12 ZTAS 21, with Echo Of Frozen Faces on B-side) was in
this sleeve. Most copies in that ps did have a blue sticker on it (saying
like '12" for 7" price / 12 ZTAS 21'). Further, I have also seen this sleeve
without the die-cut holes.
The original issue (12 XZTAS 12, with Cassette-Excerpts on the B-side) had
the b/w 'sofa' picture sleeve, which was also used for the US pressing of
p:Machinery (Polish).
Best regards

I wondered, if it had the same cover as the CD single, or a sleeve similar to

HI Global-Zulu
Why is it that ZTT always have confusing and incorrect information. I mean
just think about the whole relax-remix-matrix-sleeve issue. It's like they do
it on purpose. Take 808's 'Azura'. The 12" sleeve give incorrect information
on where to find the tracks and one of the CD's has wrong design?? Also the
808 contact address misses the PObox NO. on 'Don Solaris'? And when they make
'Thermo Kings' it's still not made correct.
Anyway. Both my 'Close' 12"'es is in the car sleeve. I love the 'Close
Up' original. It's SO fabolus. Funny how modern it sounds. The sound is just
too dirty for the standard now a days. But that's AoNs trademark of course.
One other thing. Has anybody ever made a ZTT documentary of any kind. I once
heard something about a MTV ZTT special of some kind. Is it true? I'm very
interested in everything.

I could not agree more. I found my copy of "Close Up" on cassette in
Boise, Idaho (go figure) while on a school trip and literally stopped

composition and screams to be played at level 10 or 11 (my co-workers

I still don't know why ZTT didn't release this cut on any later CDs

impossible to find Legs or Legacy mixes on CD so China isn't any

Having lost my tape of "Slave" by Grace Jones, I was very happy to pick up
the CD of it here in Sweden. To my disdain, tehy have removed all of the
interviews and the commentaries by Paul Morley and Paul Cooke respectively!
Also, the cuts of the songs are slightly different, and whereas I would
classify the tape version as being very tight, the CD version is slightly
more drawn out.
All these changes make the subtitle "A biography" quite superficial. Swines!!!

They did, but unfortunately only in Japan. (I guess that would be Warner's
doing rather than ZTT's).
ZTT has pissed away a number of opportunities to exploit their back catalog.
All the really outstanding ZTT CDs are Japanese, mostly because of that
import-killing bonus-track fetish the Japanese labels have . . .
> Then again, it's virtually impossible to find Legs or Legacy mixes on CD

Ooo, another example of a label that doesn't know how to reissue things.
I don't understand how they can possibly get away with trotting out that
half-hour-long pink-sleeved monstrosity as an Art of Noise "Best Of" album!
Even if ZTT won't let them license the ZTT-era stuff, there's loads of mixes
they could be using to pad the running time.

This album *was* issued worldwide on CD with the original album tracking, but
I guess Island have decided to replace that version with this one. You could
probably find a used copy of the original with a little work...the catalog
numbers of the different versions are in the discography...

I think that one of the original plans for ztt's 10th anniversary was to
release "Into Battle..." on CD in the autumn of '93 (according to a
letter from ztt/feedback). Don┤t ask me why they didn't...

The original CD (that included the ztt tracks and had a blue sleeve) had
12" mixes of the songs, but it was a strange collection of mixes.
Initial copies of the pink edition had a second CD with the 12" mixes of
the songs. At least in Sweden, this special edition was available quite
long after it's release. I do think the one-CD edition of this CD is a
rip-off though.
Anyone who knows if the Japanese "A Secret Wish" (WPR20??) is still
available?
Henrik.

Frankie Goes To Hollywood
Two Tribes
7" : 1984 FR (island/phonogram 880014-7) (Lenin cover state "we don`t want

but actually this is "cowboys and indians" as stated on record label)
3:56 Two Tribes (cowboys and indians)
4:58 One February Friday (doctors and nurses)
Propaganda
Duel
PZTAS8 picture disc
This is the same as ZTAS8. A side is large ZTT logo (braking the circle
shape and disc looks like the London underground logo). B side is 4 photos
of the group members. AMAZING! This is a 7" single and the label state
45rpm BUT IT PLAYS ON 33RPM!!!

I've seen a 'Partyzone' edition dedicated to ZTT. It must have been 93/94.
They played...
- The Art Of Noise: Moments In Love
- FGTH: Relax (Ollie J's Seven Inches)
- S/O/R: Sweet Sensation
- 808 State: Time Bomb
- MC Tunes vs 808 State: The Only Rhyme That Bites
- Honky: The Whistler
- FGTH: Two Tribes (Fluke's Minimix)
- Grace Jones: Slave To The Rhythm
- Seal: Crazy
- 808 State: Pacific
- S/O/R: Extacy
- Seal: The Beginning
- Tara: Save Me From Myself
- 808 State vs UB40: One In Ten
- The Art Of Noise: Close (To The Edit)
- Honky: K.K.K.
- MC Tunes vs 808 State: Tunes Splits The Atom
- S/O/R: Exorcist
- 'Partyzone-Massive: Zance' (a megamix)
This isn't exactly well balanced, is it?! Propaganda is only appearing
in the megamix; in the form of a few short shots from the 'Duel' clip.
There wasn't much of background info either.
So it was really only good to see some uncommon ZANG videos.

Ooops! Lazlo, Is this a late April hoax?
Was it delayed as a punishment only?! Or is the automatical removal
algorithm so much intelligent, that it just takes so long...?
Or wasn't it so much automatic, actually? :-)

No. If you send overquoted email it gets kicked into my mailbox, when I see
it I run it through a script that removes the extra garbage. If the process
ever becomes completely automated, I'll probably just have it return the
message to you unread.
As it says in the quoted text above (and in the list rules), if you don't want
this happening to your messages, edit them down properly before you send them.

Subject: (ztt) AON Closely, Closely oddity?
Date: 30 Apr 1997 22:06:04 -0700
A question for all you AON trainspotters:
I recently picked up a copy of the 12" of Closely, Closely, (Enoughs Enough)
12ZTPS01 {A-4U-1-1-2, in the Close Up picture sleeve (car w/ license
plate TAN 108M).
The sleeve and the record labels both have the ZTT and Island logos, but no
country of manufacture. The A side label is green, with the comedy mask; the
B side label is blue, with the tragedy mask.
The odd part is the B side, which I can't find listed exactly in Lazlo's
discography.
It is stamped 12ZTPS01 B-4U-1-1-4, but the label reads:
(*all of the following is line-centered)
Art Of Noise
MOMENT IN LOVE (*not moments in love)
THE TIME TO HEAR (YOU'RE LISTENING)
(dudley-horn-jeczalik-langan-morley) 13.46
(P)+(C) 1984 Zang Tuum Tumb (exacting)
produced by art of noise
nearly whatever you think but never quite...
published by perfect songs ltd and
unforgettable songs ltd
(*then, below the spindle hole)
12Z TPS01 B Stereo 45r.p.m
baaah!
ALL RIGHTS OF THE MANUFACTURER AND OF THE
OWNER OF THE RECORDED WORK RESERVED.
UNAUTHORISED PUBLIC PERFORMANCE BROADCASTING
AND COPYING OF THIS RECORD
PROHIBITED.
* means my comment
There is no handwritten messages of any kind in the inner
margin, just machine stamped part numbers. The last digit
of the number is very faint on both sides and is a best-guess.
There is also almost no gap between the two tracks on the
B side.
My questions are: is this the commercial release of the promo disk
described in the discography, with minor differences? Or is this
another set of remixes for Moments in Love and A Time to Hear?
And: is anyone interested in trading for this disk? Or a US only edition
of the Kiss 12" (China/Polydor 871 039-1) w/ the battery, AON, and 7"
remixes? Or perhaps ZANG18CD Shades of Rhythm -Sweet Sensation
(German pressing-same tracks as UK)?
I'm looking for any AON cdsingles (originals, not the newer DJ remixes),
and the Blue best of (or the 2 disc re-issue).
