Hello everyone;
I was out surfing this morning, and I came across a rather enigmatic
web site (www.propaganda.de).
This site has no content other than a message that says
"Propaganda is back"
Does anyone have any info on this? Can we expect some more music from
one of our favorite ZTT bands? And if so, who will be in the lineup?
Thanks in advance for any information, rumors, etc.
Mike

I don't know *what* this site might be for -- could be the band, but lots
of people use the name "Propaganda" (could be the German branch of the U2
fanclub for all we know). Definitely worth keeping an eye on, though.
Has anyone been able to hear the sound file?

It's a somewhat garbled, non-intelligible collage of sounds. Nothing
which indicates "our" Propaganda...

Given a lot of recent complaints, I'm thinking about switching the list configs
around some. Certain mailers apparently make it difficult to send personal
replies when the reply-to address is set back to the list (as it is on all
my lists). I want to know what people would think if I changed things so that
normal replies would go to the original poster and group replies would go to
the original poster and the list. Along with this I'd probably start adding
the list names to the subject lines of messages that go out over the lists,
to make it easier to see where your incoming email is coming from.
Please send your responses DIRECTLY TO ME (not the list). If you don't care,
no problem -- but it would change the list behavior some and it's only fair
to give you some warning of that.

Yesterday I came across the `Visible Silence` PAL laserdisk. I understand
it`s a live show. Is it good? Is it rare/sought after? Are any of you

My favourites are the "Andrew Brix Remix" and its ancestor the "Variable =

Life gets worse... here's some news from a friend in the biz:
...there's actually a new LP from China records called The Art of Noise -
The Drum and Bass Collection. Following on from the Fon and Ambient
albums, they wont let the old dog die! But it is actually very good -
it's very heavy going in places - but I was pleasently surprised.

I've had a lot of response to the list format change proposal I sent out,
and while a few people didn't like the idea the response was overwhelmingly
positive so I'm going to make the changes as soon as I get a chance.
Once again, here's what's going to happen:
* Replies will no longer be automatically redirected back to the list.
Check the instructions for your mailer to see how to send repsonses
to the list address.
* The name of the list will be prepended to each subject line.
I realize that some people will be inconvenienced by this but the response
I got was 15:1 or 20:1 in favor of these changes, so clearly far more
people are being inconvenienced by the current setup.

If you're talking about the Art Of Mix "acid remix", it's a stock version
of "Relax" with an acid bassline, some additional percussion and a couple
of samples laid over it. Sounds better than my description might lead you
to believe, though. :-)

Subject: (ztt) ztt related dream
Date: 08 Oct 1996 23:19:03 -0700
I hope I'm not the only one out there who has been so obsessed with ZTT
that they have dreamed about it? I know I have had several dreams where
I find lots of rare releases some of which my mind has made up. I
usually don't remember them but I remember the one from last night so I
thought I'd share it:
I was shopping at some used record store and I came accross a bunch of
ZTT and ZTT related records. All of them were used but in pretty good
condition and kind of expensive. I only remembered one of the titles
but there were several. The one I remembered was the very rare (to say
the least!) ACT's last single. It was a 12" single called "I Love
Roberta". The cover was a light blue and had Claudia in a wheat field
on an island. The back of the sleeve offered a little more
information. There were two tracks although I don't know the titles
(other than the bizarre 'I Love Roberta'). It did mention that ACT was
now made up of Claudia Brucken and Roberta Allen. I guess it explains
the title. Actually, the 12" wasn't a ZTT release, I think it was on
Island actually so it must have come out before her solo material. :)
And to imagine I could have had it for the low price (considering how
rare it is) of $36! WOW!
So that's my dream. I'd love to hear anyone elses if they've had any.
That way I won't feel too insane. :)
P.S. I vaguely remember another 12" that was white with black
lettering. Plastered accross the cover was "DR. MABUSE FAN CLUB 12". I
was pretty excited about that one too.

box with all these cocteau twins songs i'd never heard of before. the only
title i remember was one called "Ankh Saphou."
i thought the concept for cover art and the whole theme for "i love roberta"
was brilliant! it's amazing that we can internalize an aesthetic enough to
actually further it in our dreams, but i suppose that's what happens in art
all the time. that dream was really specific, though.
amazing!

Hi fellows
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Oh dear a funny one. Luv that.
Well. I`ve had many record-collection-related dreams. But once I dreamt
that I visited the SARM studios. I remember the dream very clearly. It was
a huge farm in the mid-north of Jutland (Denmark) near the town where I
live. I think I was visiting the place with a lot of other people (like a
tour bus). Once I intered a huge room where Mr. TCH and some other people
were mixing some music. I didn`t see any window to a recording room which
I found strange. Later I was out in a garden and I couldn`t find my way
out.
The reason for this dream is because I`ve never seen any pictures of the
SARM studios and it`s something I would like to see.
A few years back I dreamt of finding the DMC records which were one of the
first places I heard 808 State music. But it was a sad one because I
couldn't reach them ;-( But for the happy ending I have them now.
Laugh on dudes........

Hello!
That dream of Mark was really great! I think I'll always watch out for "I Love
Roberta" whenever I am looking for Act stuff on a fair or similar, from now on!
Only it's a pity it wasn't on ZTT :)
I've also dreamed a few times about such things, but I don't remember very
much - it's some time ago.
Once I've had a dream that I've been in London and found a VHS video comilation
of FGTH. It had a sleeve similar to that of the japanese 'Bang!' remix album,
and I didn't know it had been released at all. This dream must have been
around 1991, so it was the times when they showed virtually _none_ FGTH video
on TV for years... And I was really angry on ZTT/Island when I woke up!
Also I once dreamed that I 'met' Holly Johnson on a battle-field. We were both
soldiers and were in a kind of a hurry (to save our lives). So there was no
time to ask him my thousands of questions! Very strange dream - and scary.
Then I dreamed of finding some very rare ZTT records (which really do exist) in
a huge record shop for very few money; i.e. Hoodlum Priest 'Caucasian' 12"
promo.

Maybe I'm alone on this thought but I have a fear about how the new work will
sound without TCH - I am assuming he is not involved. I believe the
Propaganda work to be some of the most amazing music I have ever heard and I
don't want that feeling to change. I remember somebody quoting (on this list)
one of the band members who said that the 'Secret Wish' album was largely
Trevor Horn's doing.

So there it is - a real Propaganda reunion... I am anxious to see what
comes out of this project. Since Claudia worked with Mertens on the 'Brain'
project, 'I'll Find a Way' could be a good indicator on how the album will
sound... but who knows. Either way, it's definately on my want list!

Hello List!
It's good to now that I'm not the only one, who's got crazy dreams
- dreams that money can't buy -
I once dreamt that I met Holly Johnson in a Cafe in London. He had
just released a new album together with a band (I think it was U2).
The songs were in the rockish-stile of the Liverpool-album.
I was chating with Holly in a relaxed atmosphere about his book and
the new album...
I had this dream in late summer '94, after I read his autobiography
and just before the releases of "Love&Hate" and "Legendary Children".
But now back to reality:
Holly has started recording again. This summer, he recorded two
tracks. But if and when they'll ever surface nobody knows!
Solong friends
and have nice dreams...

So, SURELY Holly will release a new album, but WHEN ? I presume not in 1996
nor 1997.
^^^^^^
In my opinion perhaps in 1998.

Since Jamie brought up Seal I thought I'd mention that Seal is on a new
compilation with a new track. The compilation is called "For Our
Children Too". It is the second in a series of recordings by popular
artists for the Pediatric Aids foundation. Seal is on it doing...brace
yourselves... "Puff The Magic Dragon". I haven't heard it yet nor seen
any details on the production but it does sound interesting. For some
reason I imagine that it's only Seal and an acoustic guitar but maybe
that's just me. Has anyone heard this yet?
As for a new album coming out this year, I haven't heard anything but
would welcome any news about it. Anyone?

Frames DC is scheduled for release on Electra records this Tuesday. I
have a promo of it but I can't find it at the moment. There is an
intersting little blurb about Trevor Horn on it that I'll post once I
can find it.
BTW, anyone heard anything about any other new ZTT release this year?
The last one I saw/heard was Klymaxx which came out a month or two ago.

I listened to this on a Tower station so it may have been the
environment, but I found it a little boring. The rest of the album was
pretty much the same. I guess I expected a little interpretation, but
these are straight performances. Too bad. I know I won't buy this one
new.
ICE also lists 2 other compilations with Seal:
JUST SAY NOEL (10/29): something with Wendy & Lisa (no title given).
SPACE JAM (soundtrack): Fly Like An Eagle (the Steve Miller Band
classic!).

Hello List!
I agree, a record-release would be in distant future.
Not only because Holly isn't working very fast, but also it will be
difcult for him to find a record-company. For "Legendary children"
it took him ages until he finaly made a deal with club tools.
"What would FGTH be today?"
Well, they would definatley be in one line with Groops such as:
U2, Cure, Duran Duran , Depeche Mode etc.
The 10th aniversery in 93/94 with RELAX in the charts showed that,
even after all those years, FGTH is still famous.
And I'm sure, if they'd reform and release a record today, they would
be back in the top ten (regardless to the quality).
However, in '93 all bandmembers got interviewed and they agreed, that
reforming the band would be impossible due to disagreements (mostly
Holly against the rest of the band). Everone seamed to be a
bit sentimantel though about the fact, that they dropped such a big
opportunity.
Holly said, he and Wolfgang tried to reform the band for a charity
festival for children in rumania without any success.
Paul used a quote from `Blade Runner':"The star, which shines twice
as bright, lifes half as long!"

Till

Wendy & Lisa have produced an album by an artist named Doyle Bramhall.
I believe he was the singer with another group but I can't remember the
name. From the little of it I heard, it was kind of Lenny
Kravitz-mixed-with-Seal-ish. In the US, it's on Geffen records (further
evidence of the cozy Geffen/Trevor Horn relationship over the years) and
is available on CD and tape with the catalog number of #25001.

The QuickTime movie displays a spinning, 432k version of the 3D
"Propaganda" text shown on main www.propaganda.de page. It takes
*forever* to load, though, and I'm running off a direct T1 connection
here at work. Other than this and the little sizzler animation, I
didn't see much content at all.
If you can't use the plug-ins because there are none available for your
SGI platform, you should check up on
http://browserwatch.iworld.com/plug-in.html. They have a UNIX section
which might have a plug-in for QuickTime movies.
Eagerly awaiting any new Propaganda/Brucken material,

I'm with Ian here -- there's no reason to go to the trouble of downloading the
plugins and then downloading all the files on the Propaganda page unless you
want to see their logo spin around. There is no music, no sound, no images of
the band -- just that logo spinning around.

You may find this very strange, but music-wise I could imagine that they
would have developed into a kind of Sisters Of Mercy like sound - if they had
continiously gone on from Liverpool.

Yeah, I think I posted about this single back a few month. I liked it!
(Perhaps it's gone under in the listserver-problem-phase?)
I can resend it if anyone likes.
Don't know about an album though. A friend of mine has another CD Single,

Hi, here's the old mail concerning the Hoodlum Priest release...
Hello,
are there still any Hoodlum Priest desciples out there?
If so here's info on a new CD-single I just got last week:
* Hoodlum Priest: Naked Time / No Fear
CD5: 1995 UK (Stylus22/RTM: STYCD002)
6:13 Naked Time
4:33 No Fear
4:09 No Fear (Noko Apollo 440 Mix)
9:58 Naked Time (Uberchill - Technietzsche Mix)
And in my opinion it's great - especially No Fear.
Again it's way over the top... going beyond my abilities of description!
All I can say regarding to styles (and I hate doing that), is that Noko's
mix is a bit different from the rest incorporation pure break-beats. (But
it's not less great, of course!)
This time the songs are featuring actually _sung_ vocals, but they're
really fitting to the music.
