I don't know if that's the reason for crippling the release, but there's
really an ABBA sample on it.
There are short sped-up fragments of "Take A Chance On Me" thrown in on
the 12" version of Chance (called '12/1 Chance!').

I was recently listening to my Nasty Rox "Cash" album and I noticed
something on the first two tracks 9th Wonder and 10th Wonder.  Nasty Rox had
sampled the rythm in these two songs from the early hip hpo rap band "The
Sugar Hill Gand".  Its kind of funny that the Sugar Hill Gang named their
song "8th Wonder".
  I've heard that in order to copy someone's music, their must be a 7 year
wait.  I guess its the law.  The lyrics are different between the two bands,
but the rhythm and beat are the same!  Mind you that Nasty Rox's versions
are the absolute BEST!!!  They have the real talent!

I'm not sure, but I think Esprit Mailorder listed a Chance CD5 in an
ad a couple of years ago.

I think you're out of luck here, though I'd be very interested to hear =
otherwise.

I picked up the 12" and 7" when they'd just finished printing the sleeves -- =
before they hit the copyright problems/whatever. As I also own the artwork =
for the Chance sleeves -- and none of it appears to be for a CD sleeve -- I =
would be surprised if there was a CD single.

production sounds very cheap, like the tacky keyboard brass used.
Also the rhythm track is slightly repetitive. To see how it should be
done, I think that everybody should get hold of the new CD "Fantastic
Star" by Marc Almond which contains quite a few examples of
what I think that Sexus were trying to achieve.

I agree, they belong to ZTT's very best post-action-series acts.
Once again, I don't understand why they disappeared without a trace...

Since I also like their album very much, and since I only have it on
vinyl and have never seen it on CD, I begin to ask myself, if there's
really a CD-pressing of it.
I know, the LP sleeve also lists a CD with corresponding ordering number,
but I've never heard of somebody having actually seen this one.  Does
someone of you have this alleged CD?

Today I picked up a LP copy of "Who's afraid...."
Apparently it's a greek version with an A.J. Corbijn photo of a
statue on the front against a marble b/w background.
It's printed in greece and distributed by Virgin/Greece.

The track listing is somewhat different to normal and goes;

However when I play it all songs come in the normal order e.g. as
ZTTIQ2 is listed in the discog. The inside label also states the
correct info. The matrixnumber says ZTTIQ2 A/B 10-1.

Anyone got a clue to whether there actually was a LP produced with
the above track listing ??

As we are all obvious ZTT fans, we should try to help each other to locate
certain ZTT items.

For instance, I am currently in Japan and I have come across some new copies
of the (old) Shades of Rhythm EP and the Solid State "Rise" single.  I have no
idea if anyone is after these.  I am currently looking for the ACT single "I
can't Escape..".  These are just examples.

I think people should shout if they see anything useful second hand (or new).

Back in San Francisco I frequently see copies of ACT CD for $5.

Any suggestions?

Well. This time I have something for the Frankie fans out their. I recently
visited my hometown and I found a DMC record with a megamix titles Pop '84.
His containes 'Relax' and 'Two Tribes' along 18 other hit of the year. I think
it's interesting as it's the early Frankie stuff. The Frankie parts on the mix
is very special as there're samples too. Also from 'One February Friday'!
Detailes:

Now, then...

I just got back from a semi-annual record convention here in Austin, TX and
I picked up a video there called "Video Aid" which is a collection of videos
by various artists, for the band-aid cause.  There is a FGTH _Relax_ video
on this compilation that I'd never seen before.  On the box, it's listed as
"Frankie Goes to Hollywood, 'Relax' (live excerpt from The Tube)  Video
Director - Malcolm Gerrie/Production Company - Tyne Tees Television
Productions Ltd./Publishing Credits - Perfect Songs"...  The video itself
seems to be a true live video (performing, not lip syncing), and the song
sounds very...  raw.   A little bit funkier bass line, no electronics, but
still quite good.  There's also a middle segment that I'd never heard
before: _In Heaven, Everything's Fine_.  The band all seems to be the same,
though they show so little of the guitarist that I'm not sure if it's Brian
Nash, or not.  There are also two women onstage with them who just dance
around.  Most of the video is focused on Holly, Paul, and these two women
(all of whom are in pretty risque clothing -  Holly with a gun).  I'm unsure
where this video fits in to the _Relax_ video chronology, as I've never seen
this particular one mentioned in the ZTT mailing list archives, or Antal's
web page of FGTH history.  I have, however, read of one  that is very
similar to this, but it is mentioned that Holly and Paul climb on each other
and Mark O'Toole wears a Zorro mask.  In the one I bought, there's no
climbing, and no Zorro.  Anyone have any idea where this fits in to the
whole mix?

I'm not real sure how rare this video is, but since I haven't seen it
mentioned on Lazlo's ZTT discography, or Antal's version of it, I'm assuming
that it is, so I'll give as much info as I can.

The Entire VHS (ntsc) cassete, "Video Aid" (C) 1985 is produced by sony and
virgin, but has no apparent part number, nor any UPC code.

quality is decent for a 10+ year old Video Cassette.  The box is a little
bit ragged, though not too bad.  The box says that it's Hi-Fi, but my VCR
doesn't seem to think that it is.

First off, I just want to say that I'm a huge fan and collector of
Propaganda and have listened to them for a couple of years but I have a
question.  I was watching a copy of the DR. Mabuse video and I noticed at
the end where the credits are, it gave thanks to Claudia, Susanne, Ralph and
Andreas.  I never new there was anyone named Andreas in the band.  The
credits didn't mention Michael.  This means there is 5 members to
Propaganda.  Andreas isn't mentioned in the album "A Secret Wish".  Please
let me know more about Andreas!  I'm confused!  All bet everyone thinks I'm
stupid like Forrest Gump!

bit ragged, though not too bad.  The box says that it's Hi-Fi, but my VCR
doesn't seem to think that it is.

I remember seeing this tape in the shops at the time, so it

I just got back from a semi-annual record convention here in Austin, TX and
I picked up a video there called "Video Aid" which is a collection of videos
by various artists, for the band-aid cause.  There is a FGTH _Relax_ video
on this compilation that I'd never seen before.  On the box, it's listed as
"Frankie Goes to Hollywood, 'Relax' (live excerpt from The Tube)  Video
Director - Malcolm Gerrie/Production Company - Tyne Tees Television
Productions Ltd./Publishing Credits - Perfect Songs"...  The video itself
seems to be a true live video (performing, not lip syncing), and the song
sounds very...  raw.   A little bit funkier bass line, no electronics, but
still quite good.  There's also a middle segment that I'd never heard
before: _In Heaven, Everything's Fine_.  The band all seems to be the same,

Actually he is, although only tangentially: my copy credits "Dr. Mabuse" to
"DOERPER-MERTENS-THEIN" -- THEIN being Andreas Thein.  As far as I know,
all he did with the band was cowrite the one song.  There are a couple
of non-Propaganda entries in the discography that mention him.

A couple of years ago I found a copy from 1984 of the German teen mag
Bravo, which had in it an early interview with Propaganda - rather
shallow, but with a good picture of the original setup with Andreas
Thein! A couple of months later I brought it to a Die Krupps concert and
showed it to Ralf, who nearly fell off his chair laughing - he hadn't
seen it or even thought of it in ten years... The bass player, Ruediger
Esch, also found it very funny, especially the little picture of Ralf
behind a DX7, with the caption "Ralf ist waehrend der Woche biederer
Bankkaufmann" - roughly translated as "Ralf is a serious bank clerk on
weekdays" (although my German is a bit rusty, so I might be a bit wrong).

FYI, Die Krupps are the nicest people you could ever hope to meet - they
always take the time to talk to fans (did you notice I had six words
beginning with a "t" in this sentence?), and have autographed well over
thirty records and two posters for me... And I also got Ralf's autographs
on my Propaganda records. He even took the time to check the lyrics for A
Secret Wish that I downloaded from ftp.uwp.edu and correct the mistakes!

FYI 2: when Die Krupps played their last tour as an electronic band
(without guitars - ah, those were the days) in 92, they did a cover
version of Dr. Mabuse! (At least they did in Stockholm - I wasn't there,
but a lot of my friends were... I have the tape.)

BTW, this VHS Tape does also exist on Laser Disc 5japan).  I just bought a
copy this weekend, with of course, A digital quality.

Not really being into the dance scene, I've just found out that a song
that's been catching my ear of late is in fact the new Prodigy single.

The reason why it grabbed my attention, besides being a rare dance track
that's actually quite listenable, is that I'm sure there's an AoN sample in
the track, the "Hey Hey Hey" used extensively through the "Who's Afraid"
period. Can anyone confirm this? There's also something that sounds
suspiciously like it's been lifted from Talking Heads' "Remain In Light"
album, although I can't quite place the source down to a particular song.

As always, I don't know any facts about it.  But I have the impression there
got to be more floating around:  If I just count the people I know who have

This video has been shot and aired on british television show "The Tube"
before FGTH were signed to ZTT.  (This version could be regarded as demo
version, so to speak.)  Besides the drum intro originally is longer, on the
actual show, a brief interview with presentor Jools Holland was immediately
following the performance.  In this interview, asked about the availability
of the track, Holly Johnson said they didn't have a record deal yet.  (That
must have been around late 82 or early 83.)
Tales tell, a member of "Yes" saw the show and brought Trevor Horns attention
towards Frankie.  The rest is history...
{...they found a record deal - but not the best, I guess...
 ...therefore they put out the best records - that's something!}

BTW: One of "The Tube"s title themes has been done by Jeff Beck and Trevor
Horn - but I don't know, if that's been used at the time of that performance.

This probably means the video shooting of Two Tribes and Relax at "The Hope
and Anchor" club, which Frankie made themselves even before their appearance
at "The Tube".

Sure.

But I think the real tricky one is the way they were credited:

The song also samples another band (which I currently don't recall - they are
on the fine 4AD label).  This band gets the standard credits for the use of
a sample, going like 'sample from ... used courtesy of 4AD'.
But the AoN get full detailed writing credits _and_ the following: 'Art Of
Noise appear [!] courtesy of ZTT'.
In my interpretation, this ('appear') would usually mean AoN did some real
collaboration on this track.  But that "hey!"-sample is the only recognizable
thing!  If those extensive credits were AoN's price for only clearing that
sample, I can't really understand The Prodigy.  I'm saying this because I think
that price would be far too much for a tiny little sample, which doesn't change
anything to the song.
So my conclusion is: AoN either did something more to this track, or The
Prodigy are worshipping the AoN so much they'd do anything to be allowed to
write the name on their records.

Does anybody have a clue?

For those with the eyes (and ears) for the finer details...

Do any of you own the issue that was dedicated to ZTT?

I'm also trying to get the issue(s) dealing with THE COMMUNARDS/BRONSKI BEAT,
Howard Jones, Camouflage, Black, and Frazier Chorus.

Erasure, Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, Wire (and related), Anything Box, The
Smiths, Future Sound of London (and related), Global Communication, etc. are
all other collections I have.

I have their 1994 annual rare records guide, but in no way is it complete.

So the back-issues I'd be looking for, or photocopies of the discographies
include:  102, 137, 110, 131, 69

Hope someone out there can help!
