very cool... did anyone else from the list go to this last night? two hours
of artofnosie live in front of only about 30 people - their whole live set -
plus retakes, Morley doing Q&As from the audience, lighting, special
backdrops... Like a cross between an artofnoisegig, An Audience With
Kenneth Williams and a fly-on-the-wall session with Trevor...

Very odd too - the only gig I have been to where stage diving would have
left you in serious danger of clearing the whole audience.
I loved the guitar powerchords in "something is missing part II", so was
pleased when that part had 3 re-takes!
I'll be interested to see if they show any audience shots (or include
any audience noise) on the dvd, as the low attendance would be painfully obvious.

To say nothing of the bizarre interplay between Paul and the other band
members... PM to AD: "Get yer hair cut!" Cool to see the non performing
members chatting and planning at the back of the stage during tracks. Nice
mask test cards too - Testing, Resting, Nesting...

having been to the shepherds bush gig with a fairly packed audience this
was nice,
3 metres from the stage, a crowd about 4 deep at the middle.
you could hear the mallet hit Paul's hand and the squeak on Anne's piano
pedal !
it was odd for sure, but they haven't played in England for how many years?
and then
you get to see them live twice in the space of a few months. excellent
the set, was the same as the shows that have been reviewed on the list
before so i wont
repeat it.
Paul ranting his way through a brief history of Claude Debussy "the hero of
the show"
Amanda Boyd, singing her little cotton socks off,
Lol, er playing guitar
Trevor orchestrating the whole thing, plus playing bass and his electronic
sax on Dreaming
Anne, playing piano, improvising at times, and adding vocals on something
is missing !
favourite track: the aons old friend Peter Gunn with Lol turning the sample
filled
aon version back to a more guitar fuelled affair.
i look forward to seeing what goodies they put on the DVD.
i just hope it isn't bundled with another copy of seduction !
Darrel
PS
the new rising sun Chinese restaurant just opposite the TV studio was very
good.

The questions were another great bit. Are you trying to purvey Marxist
symbolism with the hammer? (someone asked Paul while he was milling around
the audience. A: Lets hope so.)..... Why the hammer?..... Who's Afraid of
the Art Of Noise? (that one was me - sorry about that. A: we are not
programmed to deal with heckles)..... Which pop group would play AoN in a
story of their lives? (Paul to audience. A: Slipknot).....
Now that's what I call interactive.

I went from Bristol (looooooong coach/train/bus journey) and loved it. A
*lot* of cock-ups, though; far more than at the Shepherd's Bush gig.
Then again, it must be weird trying to put on a full-on show to such a
small audience. The played-from-the-computer drum patterns seemed more
intricate than at Shepherd's Bush (maybe it was just a different sound
mix) and Anne did more of her cool keyboard soloing than at the gig.

This article (in German) mentiones that the Hamburg record label Repertoire
Records has secured the rights of the ZTT label. Apparently the ZTT back
catalogue of FGTH, AON & Propaganda will be digitally remastered and
re-released by this label.
Which reminds me that about a year ago it was announced that Under Cover
Music Germany had licensed the 808 State album 808:88:98 for Germany,
Austria & Switzerland, to be released as "808:88:2000". Never heard
anything more of it. Did anyone?

Amazing evening - truly intimate, imperfectly perfect and somewhat surreal.
Favorite bits:
The look on Dame Anne's face when Paul berated her hair-do(n't).
On Being Blue: reading books on stage should be encouraged.
Paul to Lol: "Touch the Beatbox, Lol..."
Being summoned to mark the retakes of "Something is Missing" out of
ten for the benefit of chairman of the board Mr Trevor Horn.

eh? What's all this about? Where/when was the concert? There was no
mention of it on the AoN list nor AoN's website. Checking out ztt's label
news page and it's completely blank.
ZTT really needs to share information of such things if they want their bands
to be successful. You'd think at least the subscribers to AoN's offical list
via thier web page would have heard about it or would have been given a
chance to win tickets.
Details please!

Dear Zang List,
Long time since I've written here, but I've been monitoring messages

Does anyone have 'AfterDark' or 'Darkside of the Mac' screensaver
software for either Macintosh or PC?
I've made an 808State-based saver which I can email to anyone who's
interested. I've only 'Darkside of the Mac' for Apple Mac and I'd be
interested to know what works/what doesn't.
Thanks,

This sounds like a wonderful find... any chance of a copy/mp3/description of
the music?! Definitely sounds like the ZTT Nasty Rox to me. Pre of post (or
during? what is the matrix no?) is anyone's guess. What on-line store found
it for you? The 01 405 1635 is an old London phone no. BTW.

Copied from today's Boston Globe, without permission:
MACGOWAN AT MCGANN's
Shane MacGowan, done with his night's work singing at
the packed Harp Friday night, repaired to the nearby
McGann's where the Celtic-punk rocker held court with
his entourage, which included his cousin, 10-year New
York resident Sean Fay. Fay says MacGowan's new
unreleased music kicks hard and "is pretty republican
as well - not Newt Gingrich Republican." That means:
Pro-Irish, anti-Brit vis-a-vis The Troubles. Fay said
while he and MacGowan shared half a bottle of gin one
night in New York last week "there was not one line of
coke or heroin." (MacGowan has been fairly public and
unrepentant about his prior drug use.) "He's in top
form." Of his lack of new music since 1997, MacGowan
blamed and cursed the record company, ZTT, and said
"We haven't even tried to get a deal in the States."
All that should change later this year. As MacGowan,
who still sports a decaying set of choppers, spoke
with a young Irish woman, she fell to the floor.
"It's my charisma," joked MacGowan.

(such
as Souvenir and Secret), Claudia doing some Propaganda songs and both
Claudia and Paul performing some of their new material. Paul had =
approached
Andy to ask if he had any objections to these plans and Andy initially =
had
no problem with the original idea as long as the concerts were =
advertised as
Paul Humphreys from OMD (or a variation thereof) and that they were not
billed as OMD performances.

Am I the only one who didn't know about this site?
http://trevorhorn.com
Really up-to-date news but not much....
news
>18 May 2000 Music Markt reports that re-releases of Frankie, Propaganda and
Art of Noise material are on the cards via Repertoire in Germany.
>03 June 2000 'Essential Selection Vol. One, mixed by Fatboy Slim and Paul
Oakenfold' feature Metaforce by artofnoise
>02 June 2000 Simon Underwood reveals the truth between Sleepwalking - a
classic unreleased track from the Horn archive in a Where Are They Now?
feature on Pigbag in this month's Q magazine.
>01 June 2000 Live on stage with artofnoise for Coexistence DVD recording.
like a cross between an AoN gig, a fly-on-the-wall TH cookery lesson and An
Audience With Kenneth Williams
>29 May 2000 creates sampladelic track for BBC Music Live
That Metaforce mix is by Fatboy Slim as far as I can tell since there is no
remix info on the CD. If you go to the site, there are a few links.
Does anyone have Q this month that will summarize the Sleepwalking story?
WOw!
