  96.     I'm afraid that there is no place currently stocking the album
  97. "artofsilence.co.uk" anymore. I contacted JJ a few months ago and he stated
  98. that he has exited the music biz entirely. He claims he is now "happy
  99. selling futures". But he was quick to point out the, then pending, AON
  100. album "The Seduction of Claude Debussey". So much for me getting my hands
  101. on that last artofsilence single "Teach Me".
  102.     I find it interesting that so many people on here and abroad claimed to
  103. dislike artofsilence.co.uk's sound, yet, appreciate Seduction. The two
  104. sound very much alike considering that they both employ various current
  105. club music styles. House music is very prevalent in both of them. In my
  106. opinion, the core music of both albums are very similar. The major
  107. differences are more piano work and more of those little added
  108. background/accent noises from Anne and Trevor. Personally, I love both
  109. albums. But, JJ got there first...

  153.     So far only one answer has gotten close to the original meaning.
  154. However, nobody has nailed it on the head.
  155.     "Metaphor on the floor" is a pun on the American term 4 on the floor.
  156. This is an automotive reference. It got it's start in the 50's and was
  157. popularized in the 60's by ads for such cars as the Oldsmobile Cutlass 442.
  158. It is referencing a 4 speed manual transmission shifter located on the
  159. floorboard of the car as opposed to a column shifter. A floor shifter is
  160. preferable since there are fewer connective mechanics to the transmission,
  161. this way. And shifting gears this way is a much more natural, fluid motion.
  162. I don't even like automatic transmissions that shift on the column. All the
  163. more reason why I miss my Cutlass.
  164.     Any way, as cars through the 60's grew faster and more powerful "4 on
  165. the floor" became synonymous with the performance rather than the feature.
  166. Rock and roll musicians adopted the phrase to indicate songs where the kick
  167. drum is struck on all four beats of 4/4 time signature. It creates a greater
  168. punch to the sound of any song. Disco, new wave and techno music are the
  169. most notorious of the genres for relying, heavily, on the 4 on the floor
  170. beat. The irony is that the beat of "Metaphor on the Floor" isn't quite your
  171. stock 4 on the floor beat. One of the upsides to drum & bass. I can only
  172. assume that exposure to Californian logic and culture, at Sarm West Studio
  173. Los Angeles, has infected and corrupted Trevor and company to be aware of
  174. street racing terms. I, now, have an odd image of their next album alluding
  175. to centerline wheels, 4 wheel anti-lock disc brakes and smog pumps. God I
  176. hope not.
  177.     As for the person answering with getting down on all fours, it would
  178. seem you have some personal issues to be addressed. Seek help or seek out a
  179. lover who experiments a bit... your choice. ;-> Just kidding.

  209. anymore. Well, I don't want to leave anyone hanging, so I will give you the 
  210. e-mail address of the original trader who I bought the tapes from.

  214. I would PLEASE ask that you DON'T flood him becuase I'm not sure if he would 
  215. want me to give out his address to everyone or not, but I feel that it would 
  216. be unfair to leave you guys out on some lost AON treasure.

  218. NOTE : He charges roughly $20 for each tape. His prices are higher than mine 
  219. becuase his dubbing machine is of superb quality. He might charge more for 
  220. shipping; I'm not sure. Also, be sure to ask him about foreign conversions 
  221. because I'm not sure if he performs these either.

  223. He has everything that I have EXCEPT for the "Art of Love" video.
  224. I personally received that tape from the guys at China and Sire.

  226. He just doesn't deal in Art of Noise either; if you're interested in any 
  227. other artists, just ask. I think he has something like 60,000 videos in his 
  228. collection. He also buys a lot of Japanese imports. He is a great guy; a 
  229. true God send.
