Just picked up a promo CD of the AON album.
haven't listened to it yet, but am pleased with meself.

Actually, I got Earl Brutus, Cooler and Fuzz Townshend at the same time,
so you can appreciate,
AON is at the back of a queue.

Subject: (ztt) 'Sedution' Promo Pack

I've not quite gotten caught up on my backlog of messages
from the ZTT list, so I apologize if someone has already
mentioned this item...

I was at a CD show and picked up a rather interesting promo
pack for AON's new 'Sedution Of Claude Debussy' release.

There are two discs in die cut sleeves.  The first is the
13 track release of 'Seduction' with different cover art than
the other two promos (the 12 track or the 13 track UD-53235).
The other disc is titled 'Sources & Methods' which is a 5 track
promo compilation of old AON tracks:

1. Moments In Love
2. Close (To The Edit)
3. (Three) Fingers Of Love
4. Beat Box (Diversion 1)
5. A Time For Fear (Who's Afraid)

There is a short biography printed on the back of the 'Sources &
Methods' sleeve.

Also in the pack are 6 rice paper-like inserts that have various
graphics on one side and biography information on the other.

Insert One talks about Debussy's influence on modern music.

Insert Two is an extract from the "Art Of Noise Manifesto"

Insert Three lists (in very smal print) a ton of AON influences
including 808 State, Randy Quaid, Village Voice, Andy Warhol, etc.

Insert Four and Five both give a paragraph description of each of the
thirteen songs on 'Seduction'.

Insert Six talks more about Debussy's influence on modern music.

All of this is packaged in 7x5 mylar bag with an 'Art Of Noise' logo
sticker on the front.

I got one too!
It's interesting to note that the advance in the mylar pack is the same
tracklisting, track times and total times as the 'final' disc.  The final
disc has different art than the previous 2 advance discs and inside are
some more quotes and excerpts from an 'index' of influences, etc. as well
as pictures of the sea, solarized pic of debussy, a blindfolded woman,
someone (trevor?) in what looks almost like a KKK mask, and lots of blue
and purple swirls sorta like Monet.    Among other things in the 'index',
is  "Reeves, Keanu".  Hmmm.  Sun Ra, Devo, DKNY.....

so really, the reprise of 'dreaming in colour' lacking and the mix being
different on the advance/longer is the main difference.  the slight shaving
of seconds on some tracks didn't seem to be a big deal, I do think the
mastering is a bit punchier on the advance though.

10. A little musical update from me...

9. Anyone see Art of Noise (Trevor and Paul) on Something For The
Weekend (VH-1 in the UK) this morning?!  I only caught the last five
minutes - inane questions about Duane Eddy, Tom Jones and Genesis,
followed by videos of Britney Spears and Aerosmith!  Ironic and
depressing (but a little exciting).

8. Leilani's new single seems to be getting reasonably heavy rotation on
The Box channel on UK cable.

7. That new Art of Noise box set (Inside, ZTT 130CDX) sure is tasty.
But why is everyone calling it a box set?  It's just a box - nothing
more!

6. Gutted I missed the Lee Griffiths showcase at Madame Jo Jo's last
Monday!

5. The Frames have never been my cup of tea, but their new album Dance
The Devil... (ZTT 127CD) is actually rather good.  Three rubbish tracks
but the rest are great - especially Star Star and the title track.  It's
out 12 July with a single - The Pavement - out 7 June.

4. Talking of new releases, I've recently been absorbing two CD promos
of The Frames (where's the DC gone?!) and Lee Griffiths.  The Pavement
Tune/Steal My Body/Look Back Now on the former.  Feeling The Strain/Do
It Again/Funky Junky Monkey on the latter.  No catalogue numbers on
either.  There's also a four track Album Sampler (again no cat. no.,
made up by Masterpiece Mastering a la TSOCD original promo but with a
picture sleeve) from Lee Griffiths lurking around.  It has Feeling The
Strain/Crazy/Sweet Baby James/Morning After.

3. Rather chuffed to get my hands on a copy of the Art of Noise -
Metaforce CD single a couple of weeks ago.  ZTT 129CD with original/roni
size/rhythm masters mixes.  Same size/shape of packaging as for State
808's Bond CD single for those that are interested.  Don't lose any
sleep waiting for the Roni Size remix.  It's not that great - his
original productions are fine, but he's never turned in tremendous
remixes, has he?  Check Nicolette's Let No One live Rent Free Inside
Your Head double pack for evidence of that.

Is that a US promo pack or UK? (Is the included TSOCD cd cat.no. ZTT130CDP?)
Is it maybe the 'Inside' promo pack which you can win on the website?
And, what's the catalogue number of the 'Source & Methods' disc?

All in all for the full album, the changes aren't too big, although one
can find some minor details changed all around. But I think the general mood
is about the same.
I think the changes in "Born On A Sunday" and "Dreaming In Colour" are the
most obvious.

In "Born On A Sunday" the butcher has reincarnated some additional female
singing, which makes the intro of the song sound like a silly Andreew Lloyd
Webbber musical. Later on there's a stupid synth (bass or what) effect at one
scene, which I personnally hate.
But on the other there's some new piano in the song, which I love!
What I generally dislike about the changes in this particular song, is that
it's destroyed the groove, which had build up so nicely in the initial
version. (But that's just my very personal opinion.)

BTW, I like the changes and slpitting they have done to "Dreaming In Colour"
(it simply didn't have the stamina for 8.5 minutes before), but I found the
trackorder for the second half of the record was better in the first version.
Firstly because in that the contrast at the start of "Metaphor On The Floor"
was at a maximum on the unlimited Richter-scale (who's almost crashed his
car? closely, closely). And secondly because then Paul Morley was the first
and the last voice on this record.

So there's no shadow without light, and vice versa - always vice versa!
