DIGEST #57, 5-22-95

Subject: Chocolate Synthesizer
(in reference to previous posting)...I too was blown away by the new
Boredoms album. With each release they seem to be taking their "thing"
into more sophisticated grounds, and relying less and less on being real
loud and fast (not that there isn't something to be said for being real
loud and fast). The more they mix quieter textural passages with thrashy
passages, the better it gets. I got a real sense of care for the
individual sounds, as opposed to the massing whole, from this album. I
guess its the best of the earlier stuff (which i like) and the "super
roots" ep (which i love).
I get a sense of children's songs when they do a melody. Does
anyone know if they intentionally incorporate melodies from kids songs?
ps. why is there no domestic distributor of Avant label stuff? Does no one
want to handle it, or does J. Zorn want to keep it Japanese only?

Geez, I hate to respond to my own posts, but I should I have been more
clear... though I will certainly swap the Zorn stuff I have on tape, I
also will be willing to make tapes of anything I own (which is more heavy
metal than anything else).

Yo!!!
I recently picked up a CD at a local record store....cost
me 85 dollars....guy sold it to me behind the counter in the backroom.....
John Zorn's ultra-rare release "The Windows That Become Us". The cool thing
is...the CD is actually blank!! A true innovator and avant-garde expressionist
shows us all who's boss.
