i was hoping for a Tzadik list o' releases...i've seen the first 7 or so of
the composer series, but any of the other two series out yet?
i bought david shea's 'hsi-yu chi' which is fantastic and mark feldman's
music for violin alone which has some very good moments.
has anyone heard those two or any of the others? (gisburg, chris brown
alvin curran?)

I really enjoyed the film when it played the 1992
San Francisco International Film Festival. Gives
you a good feel of Fred's personality...which
converted me from just liking his music to really
respecting him and what he is doing. I saw it again
last year, and can say that it holds up well on
a second viewing. Definitely check it out!
ObZorn: There is brief zorn appearance...nice dark
smokey cinematography for his cameo.

Good to hear! strange that they'd play a soft show at a punk rock club.
I would like to ammend my previous statement concerning Pigpen's
performance in Seattle being "not one of their better ones"....
Basically, it was still very enjoyable, and "amazing", as they are
an incredible groove band....my light criticism was meant to show
that they are capable of EVEN GREATER jamming....In essence, I've never
been even CLOSE to disappointed after a show. To the contrary:
ALL the shows I've seen have been
"good", but some, namely those where 'the dragon comes out to play',
leave quite an impression (so to speak)....
{excuse my tedious 'analysis'}
Also: Great to hear that live Pigpen will be released!
Thanks for the info regarding this....
And: As far as touring goes, you hit the nail on the head:
Wayne Horvitz is a busy musician, as well as a family man,
(wife/daughter), whereas the rest of the band would tour
at the drop of Wayne's hat...and now is surely a prime time
to do so, as people are hurting for good groove music...
Well - here's hoping the dragon's been hanging around your scene...
...if not, Pigpen hopefully will bring it to town...don't miss 'em.
Adios,
James L. Kirchmer
