People are forgetting what I think is Zorn's most incredible cover:
---------------------------------------------------------
019 - THAT'S THE WAY I FEEL NOW: A Tribute To Thelonious Monk
This record features covers of Monk's songs by Bruce Fowler, Steve Khan, Dr.
John, Carla Bley, Barry Harris, Was (Not Was), Mark Bingham, Steve Lacy,
Sharon Freeman, Todd Rundgren, Randy Weston, John Zorn, Terry Adams,
Shockabilly, Joe Jackson, Bobby McFerrin, Chris Spedding, Steve Slagle, Gil
Evans, etc.
14/ Shuffle Boil (Monk) 2:58
Recorded in 1984
John Zorn: game calls, alto, clarinets; Arto Lindsay: guitar, vocal; Wayne
Horvitz: piano, organ, celeste, electronics; M.E. Miller: drums, timpani.
1984 - A&M Records, SP-6600 (2xLP)
Note: there is a CD version, but without Shuffle Boil on it (...).
----------------------------------------------------------
This record was produced by Hal Willner and is, as far as I know, the first
project on which Zorn was invited.
After that, there are few projects, such as:
028 - LOST IN THE STARS: The Music of Kurt Weill (1985 - A&M, SP 9-5104 (LP))
029 - NEW JERSEY: Joe Piscopo (1985 - Columbia, BFC 40046 (LP))
030 - HONEYMOONERS RAP: Joe Piscopo (1985 - Columbia, 44-05224 (12"))
Also, Zorn wrote the liner notes of:
*** - THE CARL STALLING PROJECT (1990 - Warner Bro's, 9 26027-2 (CD))
produced by Hal Willner.

Subject: Eugene Chadbourne
Recently i had the good fortune to catch mr. eugene chadbourne at a local bar
playing w/ some band called great train robbery (or something like that...).
Except for the quite crammed quarters in the little bar, the evening was
quite worth it to catch a glimpse of (What i call him) mr. goofy. He even
did a number w/ his electric pencil sharpener which consisted of the body of
a pencil sharpener attached to a piece of wood w/ some kind of surface pickup
on it. he then preceded to hang and sling it around via rubber bands
attached to it, scrape it on numerous surfaces. These included the floor,
chair, and even the front window of the establishment w/ curious spectators
watching from outside trying to ascertain exactly what was going inside. all
and all quite an enjoyable evening except for the fact that i only stayed to
see him solo and wasn't able to catch his 2nd set playing w/ the
aforementioned band.

Subject: Made In ?
Having ordered all the recent Zorn releases on TZADIK (barring the
ones I already had), I sat back and waited for them to turn up (while
my bank balance goes bang!). First to show was Locus Solus, and,
after examining the case/booklet, I have a question for some of you
wise Zorn gurus.
The disc is issued on evva records/TZADIK, and carries on the CD spine
the cat. no.s evva 33003 and TZ 7303, while the disc carries only the
cat. no. evva 33003. More confusingly, the booklet carries the old
eva records cat. no. WWCX 2035, and is clearly marked "Printed In Japan."
No country of origin information is given on the CD case (just a slogan
stating that the material is released by evva for Europe and Japan, and
TZADIK for the United States), nor the CD, though it is stamped GEMA,
which I believe indicates that it was made in Germany. Moreover, the
CD also carries a Koch International logo.
So, my question is: "Where was this disc made?"
Yours in confusion, Dem (demery@natlab.research.philips.com)
