  120. She's  a Cecil Taylor kind of accordionist.  Very intense, rhythmic,
  121. clustery, complete with a fuzz box -- but always musical.  Her playing on
  122. Ellery Eskelin's records is fantastic.  Lotsa attitude, and her chops are
  123. pretty formidable.

  453. remastering reveals levels of detail and tones that are like hearing these

  630. When I was working on THE FLINTSTONES last yr, I was given a heavy Hoyt
  631. Curtin indoctrination.  He's got a lot of different styles in his scores,
  632. and there are various Hanna-Barbera comps out there.  He's got his exotic
  633. moments, his outer space moments etc.

  648. I was very disappointed with Andrea's performance in LA. She was
  649. surprisingly bland. Not at all what I was expecting. But, Bjork.

  651. Madonna and others of that ilk means someone is not really
  652. listening. Take the microphone away from Madonna and its thin
  653. soup. Listen to Bjork a capella, and its bliss.

  666. This maybe too obivious, but how about 'Fantasia?'  As far as I know 
  667. Raymond Scott and Stallings were the main cartoon composers - but 
  668. 'Fantasia,' I imagine was an introduction to classical music for a 
  669. lot of American kids.  As a child I had classical recordings in our 
  670. house - but I imagine that there were many households that didn't 
  671. have recordings (during the 50's) so, seeing this cartoon was 
  672. probably an introduction to the 'classics.'  And of course Stallings 
  673. taking or borrowing music from the classical world, etc.

  688. say I have seen her in bookshops, and she has to be one of the most

  704. Personally, I do like some of Bjork's stuff.  And to the non-believers out 
  705. there, I ask whether you've heard her album "Telegram"???  The string 
  706. arrangements are glorious, and I might point out she did them herself.  So 
  707. in her case, it's not necessary the 'production team' that deserves the 
  708. credit.

  710. Frankly, I'm surprised to hear so many people on this list express dislike 
  711. for her.  She has more of an obvious jazz influence in her sound than most 
  712. pop stars...

  714. Don't get me wrong; I'm certainly not her #1 fan.  I only have "Telegram" 
  715. and the "Joga" remix single, but I've heard much of the other releases.  
  716. She's a playful musician.  That's all.  It's not a crime.  Does she get less 
  717. respect 'cause she's rolling in $$$?  Why do I get the feeling someone like 
  718. Iva Bittova, who has a similar spirit but not as much notoriety, would get 
  719. more credit?

  721. Regarding the lumping together of Madonna, PJ Harvey, and Bjork - sounds 
  722. like someone forgot they these women don't just sing {lalala} over songs 
  723. their "teams" create.  They write, and play instruments, too.  Perhaps you 
  724. feel singers are lesser???

  726. For the record, I will say I'm a HUGE fan of Rob Ellis, who worked on 
  727. PJ'smost recent album , and others I think:)  He is versatile on high.
  728.  
  729. And Nellee Hooper mixed with just about anyone will likely turn out a great 
  730. song.
