  213. issue The Onion, there's an interview with Dustin
  214. Diamond, who played "Screech" on the TV show "Saved By
  215. the Bell", and in it he says...  "... I like a wide
  216. variety of music.  I like Jaco Pastorius and Joni
  217. Mitchell, but then I like Mr. Bungle, John Zorn, crazy
  218. stuff like that."  Diamond is apparently a musician
  219. himself (bass), and although he obviously wants to go
  220. beyond being Screech, throughout the whole interview I
  221. could only interpret him in that cracking screech
  222. voice.  :~)  Anyway, I'm sure it's online at the
  223. Onion's website if it's of any interest.

  242. Yeah, I think someone mentioned that Zorn talked about this at Miller
  243. Theatre, saying he cancelled the piece because the Labecque sisters were
  244. meddling too much in the compositional process. But there is another big
  245. Zorn classical performance coming up at Cooper Union: the U.S. premiere of
  246. 'Rituals,' paired with two pieces by Charles Wuorinen, performed by the
  247. Eastman School of Music's Musica Nova ensemble on March 9. (And no
  248. Zorn-content, but on the 14th, the very fabulous Marilyn Nonken plays the
  249. complete solo piano works of Pierre Boulez in the same hall... given her
  250. amazing complete Schoenberg a few months back at Miller, this should be
  251. amazing.)

  443. BTW, since we're talking about mainstream media sightings, there's a pretty
  444. terrific overview of Mike Patton's career in the new issue of Revolver
  445. (P.O.D. on the cover), a glossy mag which has gone metal in recent months.
  446. Don't know what's funnier, Patton's unflinching slam at all the nu-metal
  447. bands that have cropped up in the wake of Faith No More, or members of those
  448. same bands offering their heartfelt testimonials to Patton's influence. The
  449. writer even gets a sizeable quote from Zorn.

  590. working at the bell atlantic jazz fest a few years ago, where Zorn, Frith, 
  591. Lombardo and Laswell played... during soundcheck i was bullshitting with fred 
  592. frith (trying not to sound like a big fan who owns almost all of his solo 
  593. records....) the name Zappa came up.  Zorn was like Yeah ! Zappa !! then he 
  594. starts mouthing the riffs to peaches n Regalia while Frith was kinda faking 
  595. it on guitar.  Good stuff......

  622. Weather Report:  one of the greatest groups of musicians that ever existed.  
  623. Live in Tokyo was released on CD in Japan, if you look around you'll find it. 
  624.  That one featured the very under-rated Eric Gravatt on drums.... any live 
  625. tape with him is sure to be killing.... I just read almost all of the weather 
  626. report postings here (among the other 960 emails in my inbox... i just read 
  627. the ones with interesting looking subjects... interspersed with other emails 
  628. with subjects like "Get big, ripped and strong" ... does that stuff actually 
  629. work???)

Weather Report:  one of the greatest groups of musicians that ever existed.  Live in Tokyo was released on CD in Japan, if you look around you'll find it.  That one featured the very under-rated Eric Gravatt on drums.... any live tape with him is sure to be killing.... I just read almost all of the weather report postings here (among the other 960 emails in my inbox... i just read the ones with interesting looking subjects... interspersed with other emails with subjects like "Get big, ripped and strong" ... does that stuff actually work???)<BR>

  703. The second half of columbia's re-release on cd of "I Sing the Body Electric" 
  704. has three tracks from a live concert in tokyo in 1972.  What's on Live in 
  705. Tokyo that isn't on the columbia release?  (consequently, it was the live 
  706. material from "I Sing" that I dug the most when first listening to the album).
