I wish I would have known that Lombardo was playing the Slayer tour. I
definitely would have gone. The last time I saw Lombardo with Slayer was 11
years ago. To the person that posted the original post...Does this mean that
they played mostly old material? As far as the opening acts, I know that
Hatebreed was one of them. Hatebreed is a great band. I have been listening
to them since 1994 when all they had out was a 4 song demo. They are a
hardcore band, so if you don't like hardcore at all you won't like them. But
for what they play, they are the best around right now. Slayer has had them
on the road with them for the last 2 years straight. A lot of people might
not like hardcore but it was hardcore that introduced me to the Naked City
and that's how I found out about Zorn. And then when I went to see Zorn play
for the first time, I had recognized him from going to hardcore shows. I
know that hardcore has had a huge influence on his playing.

i have a friend who mentioned something to me about there being tapes of
some west coast masada lineup still in some archive of shows held at radio
valencia in SF. i had recently bought the marco eneidi/glenn
spearman/jackson krall/william parker cd 'live at radio valencia' (which has
a picture of a firetruck smashed into the front of the club ... that was
before my time here) and mentioned it to this guy.
anyway, he said that in addition to the masada tapes there is tons more
well-recorded, unreleased eneidi/spearman stuff (as well as much else, i'm
sure) in the archives. he also mentioned having some sort of access to this
stuff, but i'm being irresponsible and blathering here ... anyway, i need to
bug him about that and see if i can hear it!
more reports to follow when/if that ever happens ...

They actually played a mixed bag. They played quite a few cuts from
their new album, God Hates Us All. They sprinkled it with cuts from
classic Lombardo-era Slayer albums like Seasons in the Abyss, South of
Heaven, and Reign in Blood.

I wasn't impressed all that much with Hatebreed. I do enjoy Zorn's hard
core music greatly, though I think that it owes more to metal (Napalm
Death, et al) than to actual hard core. I love metal, but if Hatebreed
is one of best hard core bands, I guess I don't like hard core

Look no further than Quasimoto's album, "the unseen." It's probably my
favorite hip hop record of all time, and I'm really into hip hop. Yes, it's
better than Tribe's "the low-end theory."
Quasimoto is the producer Madlib, who concocts super-crunchy lo-fi beats and
jazz samples (Wes M. + Jimmy Smith, Sun Ra, etc.) into tracks that he raps
on. But wait- when he raps, he does so through a pitch-shifter....so the
voice sounds like a cross between Eminem and the Chipmunks. While it sounds
silly, it's seriously an incredible album, and it's out on stones throw
records...it came out in '00.
Also........
Dr. Octagon's "the octagonycologist" (spelling is something like that) that
came out around '97 is a classic of "deranged" hip hop. Kool Keith (you
might want to check out his Black Elvis/Lost in Space record) raps over
music by Dan the Automator with scratches by Q-bert. A few tracks on there-
"waiting list", "blue flowers" - were instant classics.
I'm really into heaps of other hip hop, but most of it is just GOOD, not
"deranged" or "out there."

Hi,
I have "Ralph Sounds" on Birdman Records and I didn't
dig it. in fact, I just listened to it a couple of
times. Mostly a solo album if my memory serves. It's
supposed to be funny, but I found it a bit gratuitous

I don't recall the album at all (which is significant)
but can't recommend it to anyone. Sorry.

Hi,
Since several listers have asked me to post some
remarkable portions of the program, I'll do it. I'll
be a bit slow- I have five German exams next week and
i can barely say "Wie geht es Ihnen" so it's gonna be
a hard weekend. But I'll post it, that's for sure.
It's interesting and I'd love to share it.
Maybe I'll send something during the week. Only if you
behave :-)

he was also in a band called Pluto with David Slusser and Mark Weinstein.
they had a recording out called "shoehorse emerging" on Rastascan that was
fun in an experimental rock/avant-prog way. i wouldn't call it a Carney
showcase per se, but good playing all the way around

damn, man, how did i forget about this album? i've only heard it a couple of

goofy and wild, and out there. it rules.

ironically, I find TBT's "Live in Europe" their
weakest release. We don't seem to agree, Marcin :-)
As to "Witness" I love both the album and was
impressed by their live performance in BCN- but
considering that these shows are rare here, don't pay
much attention to my appraisal. Comes out of
desperation.

If you're a vinylhound, find the Tin Huey LP, CONTENTS DISLODGED DURING
SHIPMENT on Warner Bros. It takes a bit of hunting and the whole album is
not great, but a few of the tunes -- and Ralph's playing -- are just
amazing. Also, he played the tenor solo on "I Know What Boys Like" by the
Waitresses. Great player, nice fella.

Not at all! What's he up to these days? I certainly dig the records with
Ardolino too, it's just those first ones had a rare kind of r'n'r innocence
(for lack of a better description, more a reflection of the times),
especially considering what other bands were playing (I really dug the
Flamin' Groovies back then too).
