A minor clarification on the subject of
Haino & Zorn together on 3 officially released recordings:
Haino appears with Zorn on 5 tracks totaling over 1/2 hour on
the Pain Killer album "Rituals: Live in Japan". This album
has a poor mix of the guitar.
Haino also appears with Zorn on 1 track, "Marianne" of Makigami Koichi's
album Koroshi no Blues (again with Zorn in Pain Killer). This
is a supercool track, but the cd is oop.
This single track "Marianne" was also included on Tzadik's
complete studio recordings of Pain Killer. (For clarity's sake,
Rituals is not here.)
As near as I can tell, that is the grand extent of Zorn and Haino
non-bootleg collaborations. There are compilations that have both
Zorn and Haino on them, but not on the same tracks.
Caleb has mentioned an Otomo Yoshihide album with Haino/Zorn/Otomo together
appearing on Patrice's Zorn discography, but there is no Otomo album with
Haino as far as I know. I could not find one on the discography.
This probably more than clears things up. Let me know if it is I who am in
error here. Thanks.

I could not find it either. Maybe Caleb was thinking of KOROSHI NO BLUES,
on which the three musicians appear, but never all three together.

Sorry about the formatting, but I get the digest version!
Actually I'll just copy and paste what I sent to the faith No More newsgroup
:)
It's OK, depends if you like Jesus Lizard or not really!
I really liked Jesus Lizard but this album is a bit average :( I think a lot
of ppl are upset it's not the almighty Patton doing the best thing since
sliced bread, but as someone else in a different post (probably in
alt.music.mr-bungle) it's actually Duane Denison's(Jesus Lizard's bassist)
band, he got Patton to sing.
It's kind of alternative dark country. I'm sure there's other bands out
there doing similar things but the only thing that springs to my mind is
"Hater" which was a side project of a couple of the Soundgarden guys.
In short, the album is OK, but nothing too spectacular, no boundaries blown
blah blah.
Maybe it'll grow on me with time, but at the mo I'm a bit disappointed
( When I heard the band was gonna be Patton with guys from Helmet and JL, I
could hardly wait, probably just set my expectations too high :)
actually since I've listened to it more now, I can say it has grown on m e a
lot, but it's nothing experimental really, but is a way above average,
average rock album if that makes sense :)

Indeed I was, and as I check the discography again, I see that I misread it

Hi y'all,
This week on Mappings <http://www.antennaradio.com/avant/mappings/>,
you'll hear music inspired by the 11th century Tibetan Buddhist
Milarepa composed by Eliane Radigue.
The show went online Monday evening around 10:00 PM (-0500 GMT) and
will remain online at the above URL for a week. Last week's program
(featuring music of the World Soundscape Project by Sabine
Breitsameter, Darren Copeland, Claude Schryer, Barry Truax, Hans
Ulrich Werner, and Hildegard Westerkamp) is still available in the
Mappings archive
<http://www.antennaradio.com/avant/mappings/index1.htm>, where you
can also find play lists for the program since it began in March 1998.
Hope you tune in to the program.
Bests,

Subject: RE: About Douglas live
1. There is a studio recording of Douglas, Mengelberg, Jones and Bennink -
its release has just been delayed time and time again because of the crappy
state of the retail market in the States (which affects the Canadian label
in question, Songlines, insofar as it affects the majority of the potential
sales and the financial well-being of the distributor). What you should
expect to hear is something that starts with Thelonious Monk and goes
somewhere else, though with the deepest respect and greatest affection. And
when Dave and Han dig in together, it's magic. Last I heard, the Songlines
disc was/is now due in January.
2. Charms of the Night Sky performs the music heard in "Five Part Weather
Invention," the first part of "El Trilogy," Trisha Brown's recent
collaboration with Dave. The second part was scored for a quartet of Dave,
Greg Tardy, Greg Cohen and Susie Ibarra, and the third part combined both
groups. There's a CD of the entire piece available on RCA Victor, though at
present it may still only be available through Downtown Music Gallery
(www.DTMGallery.com). I don't know which part will be performed in your
area, but maybe this will be enough to let you know what to expect...

I concur with everyone who found Tomahawk's self-titled debut album
disappointing at first listen. Originally I found it to be an extremely
insipid soundscape and recall wondering if perhaps Mike's rigorous schedu=
le
of full-time bands and solo projects was starting to equate to a bad case=
of
quantity over quality. However, after subjecting myself to repeated liste=
ns
I had something of an epiphany. The recording transformed itself overnigh=
t
from the aural equivalent of sawdust to an absolute culinary delight. It
began to take on a curious logic all it's own and a rich and varied music=
al
tapestry emerged from what had previously appeared to be a lukewarm pile =
of
faeces, IMHO. There are now songs on this album that I literally love. My
advice to anyone who has picked up Tomahawk is "persevere!"
Kind regards,
Adam
