"Action Figure Party" is a project by LA keyboardist Greg Kurstin (who's doen
both jazz and rock stuff). I haven't heard the record, but people tell me it
has a Headhunters/jam-like vibe. I don't know what the "out/avant-meter"
reading is... Pamelia Kurstin told me she's arranged some tracks on it, and
maybe plays some theramin... btw, she'll be in the opening act for Air on
this tour, so you should check it out if you dig her stuff.
Cheers,
Dave

Hey, wow... does this mean that the Zornlist is fixed? Please say it's
true. I had private e-conversations with two 'listers just within the last
hour about how much we've missed the damn thing. Feels like I've been
walking around with cultural blinders on...

It's been over a week and it looks like our
wonderful hosts at xmission.com have fixed
the zorn-list software problem. We think. ;)
In fact, this email to you all is a test

from now (3:48 PM PST Oakland, California),
then assume the list is operating okay.
THEN you can resume your incisive dialog.

p.s. for those of you that care, when the

I was receiving thousands of message bounces

worst I was receiving about 5 MegaBytes of

Just got my copy from Bruce at DMG. While it may be premature to make a
full-on recommendation, after one listen I can say that this disc is
excellent. I'd only heard a portion of this music one time -- at a Trisha
Brown/Dave Douglas performance last summer in Saratoga Spings -- and I was
amazed at how well I remembered the melodies. This has nothing to do with
the power of my sieve-like memory; it has everything to do with the power and
eloquence of Dave's compositions.
I'm assuming that many of the in the New York area or who do mail order with
DMG already own this. What's the general opinion?
Great to see the list up and running again,
Tom

I guess it is time to start the serious job again! What about a list of your
100 top favorite songs? Or one, shorter, of your least favorite Masada
records :-).

if it's not common knowledge already, this is Douglas's new RCA CD, available
exclusively for the next six months through DMG, then RCA is releasing it
through normal channels.
thanks to the kindness of Brian Olewnick, I recently heard the much acclaimed
Terry Riley-You're Nogood, easily my favorite recording by him ever. I'm
still not thrilled about spending 30-plus dollars for a 20 minute piece (plus
another disc of Poppy Nogood, which I can live without). lame marketing,
awesome music.
it's very nice to see the list up and running again (assuming it is, and I
don't see this fifty more times tonight.)

Alright, Patrice, now you're just tempting fate. Could you imagine *that*
hitting your box 30 times in five minutes...? Plonk.
Maybe it would be better if someone just guestimated the day that the list
went whack, and then we could all mention the one or two greatest
discoveries that we've missed sharing in that time? I know, it's dorky and
sentimental. C'est moi. It would get things rolling again, anyway. And
hey, Jon already started it with his Terry Riley plug...
