Can't vouch for WP's euphonium playing 'cause I've never seen him with
that unwieldy instrument. But is bass playing is first rate.
You're really missing something if you haven't heard (seen) In Order To
Survive. Parker provides the centre and the bottom of the compositions,
Susie Ibarra is an inventive drummer, Rob Brown fills the front role on
alto saxophone and Cooper-Moore is an unsung hero on piano.
The only negative thing I can think to say about IOTS is that it's no
longer in existance.

Sorry to be anal, but it was Morgan Fisher (ex Mott the Hoople keyboard
player and sometime Lol Coxhill collaborator) who put out 'Miniatures' (on
Pipe records), and not Duncan Mckay (who, if memory serves, was a bit of a
keyboard whizz on ye olde Prog Rock scene in the 70's...) Haven't heard it
for years, but I think it's probably well worth picking up for the likes of

Nah- corrections were in order. When I typed it up, I thought D. McKay

It was re-issued on Voiceprint, wasn't it? I went with the gut on that

You're right Patrice, though I understand Jon who as a demanding listener as
he is, he expected a better lineup, regarding old Victos prior to this.
Naturally, from an Argentinian point of view, it's an outstanding lineup.

ZONY MASH NEWS
FEBRUARY 15, 2000
The wait is over! Zony Mash is back after a six month hiatus with plenty to
look forward to. I am excited to announce the release of two new records by
the band! The first album, which was released today on Songlines Records, is
entitled American Bandstand and features the band in an acoustic setting. It
is a beautiful session, recorded last summer, that features a stunning collection
of songs by Wayne and great performances by the band.
A week from today marks the release of Upper Egypt the third in a series of electric
records for the Knitting Factory label. From the first notes of the Pharoah
Sanders title track to the last notes of the 60's inspired groove "The Blue Rose"
the band is in rare form here. Many of the songs we all enjoyed during the triumphant
concerts of last year are given royal treatment. Wayne has also surprised us
with some songs never heard before live. It's roaring intensity is the perfect
compliment to the more subtle beauty of American Bandstand.
The band is ready to play to play a lot of live shows this year, but has been
juggling some tough scheduling issues. Songwriter Fiona Apple has the good fortune
to have Keith working with her this spring. Don't miss them on Saturday Night
Live this coming Saturday. Meanwhile, Wayne is touring in Europe this March
with his 4+1 Ensemble (featuring Julian Priester, Eyvind Kang, Tucker Martine
and Reggie Watts). He will be in England with a special Bobby Previte project
in April, followed by a European tour of Ponga in May-June. Tim is busy putting
finishing touches on a new Guitar Monks records and has been playing in jam sessions
around town at the local clubs. His Very Special Forces group also has some
exciting gigs upcoming. Andy has been working with Danny Barnes & Keith in The
Heathen and is still seen about time playing with the reggae band the Groove.
All side projects aside we can look forward to lots of Zony Mash this year! The
band is real happy with the new records and is determined to get out on the road
in support of them. With that in mind, I am pleased to announce a mini-tour of
five shows in the Northwest at the end of March. This week long record release
party will feature three nights in Seattle at the legendary OK Hotel as well
as shows in Eugene and Portland. As always these concerts are not to be missed.
Serious touring will have to wait until the Fall, when ZM will do a month long
USA tour followed by a two week European tour.
Cheers,
The management

the Zony Mash website has also been updated. One of the new CDs, American
Bandstand is now released, and Upper Egypt will be out next week. On the
website are some new MP3s - live versions of some of the new songs. I

If you're grooving on the electric tracks, I'd probably suggest that you try
Upper Egypt, the CD that will be out next week. Although I think that all
the Zony Mash CDs have something to recommend them, Upper Egypt has more of
the 'live energy' than the others. The acoustic tracks are both from
American Bandstand, which is out now. I'd describe it as maybe an
"avant-romantic" album. Very sweet stuff.

Apparently, Jack didn't even know he was on this CD until my friend

Undoubtedly I'd recommend "Brand Spankin' New" (KFR-223). Very groovy and
hip. IMHO, all compositions are "stronger" than the first "Cold Spell", but
that's just an opinion.
