  13. in Germany and France, but it's not out on CD although
  14. it might be at some point. Very hard to find outside of
  15. Germany.... (but then again as Yello fans we are getting
  16. used to limited vinyl, aren't we?) JW

  87. David Mayer got it right. The cataloging is done song by song. When we have
  88. everything in parts --- perhaps 100 files per song --- we could make the
  89. same melodies and effects ourself without the background sounds. Then we just
  90. build up the song again or make a new mix. We could also make a mix of two
  91. or more songs by picking up the best parts of the songs.
  92.  
  93. Perhaps "cataloging" is a slightly wrong word for this project.
  94.  
  95. I suspect we could steal some sounds and loops directly from the records
  96. but due complexity of Yello songs we have to make most of the sounds and
  97. all of the vocals ourself. Additionally we could use both the How How/Breaks,
  98. Beats & Loops and the Yello Soundstation sample collections.

  100. A side note: if you think cataloging is impossible, then how Boris do it?

  121. created each one?  Like the snowball on the wall, ripping up the sealant,
  122. distorting the lion's roar... A lot of that will probably be in Jonas'
  123. book, but it would still make for some interesting reading/listening.. :)

  171. electronic music which wasn`t half as good as music made in the `60`s. I
  172. explained to my mother that the members of Yello were in fact as old as she
  173. were and that they make very good music. Then I suddenly realised that I`d
  174. said too much to my mother and I had to kill her. In the kitchen. With a
  175. knife. I chopped her into little pieces and fed her to the dog who lives
  176. next door. I`ve noticed that the dog is putting on a little weight.

  289. the sounds out of the mix. He might have to list the sounds and samples used
  290. for copyright purposes as well.

  835. Already once I formulated the line " separately march, united modulate
  836. ". Which was gemuenzt on the mode of operation of Hardfloor at that
  837. time, applies in certain way also to Yello. With the fine difference
  838. that the one, Boris Blank is, meet-wise Studio Eremit, the other one,
  839. Dieter Meier, rather losgleoester Weltenbummler, which roars
  840. sporadically however excitingly its phonetics gigabyteweise by the
  841. transducer. For now seventeen years the two are lively thereby (one in
  842. moments of the hitting a corner the long-known " Oh Yeah " slips again
  843. and again over the lips) and do not only deliver in regular intervals
  844. moving albums, but also thick surprises. Electronic music (-
  845. development) without Yello? Not conceivablly. This is acknowledged also
  846. again and again by advancing, and who heard once monstroesen sound
  847. dolomites of Swiss Boris Blank, that is on always and eternally lost -
  848. perhaps also in its " Pocket University" verses.

  850. Pilz: Which was noticeable to me, under no circumstances when criticism
  851. meant, is that certain items emerge, which one already knows from other
  852. Yello pieces. Thus for example " Celsius " a little reminds me of "
  853. Drive/Driven " (album " baby " 1991).
  854.  
  855. Boris: The sounds surely not. That itself under-consciously certain
  856. tendencies repitieren, into which seventeen years, in which there are
  857. now already Yello, that can quite be. That is probably also the
  858. significant at the face from Yello that it remained in such a way with
  859. the years always. Clearly one becomes older and grows with this face,
  860. but we to have actually always the same kept, not have us not
  861. artificially or by surgery modified, like that for example David Bowie
  862. makes, which with each second year, in which he makes somewhat new, how
  863. a chamaeleon completely different is - which its concept is, which also
  864. good I find. But Yello remained there always faithful itself.

  871. Pilz: Your new factory became very clubbig. Are you much on the way or

  875. Boris: I am not very much on the way, but in franzoesischsprachigen
  876. Switzerland there is a radiosender of name " Couleur Trois ". if I am in
  877. the auto, I always hear this sender, because it is my opinion the best
  878. according to in Europe. Those are genuinly courageous, play
  879. Underground... really play everything that is pleased the devil on the
  880. cars. And that is clearly that that under-consciously also a small
  881. influences me, there I on the moon does not live and evenly
  882. under-consciously such influences and inspirations entgegenehme. That
  883. colors naturally also the music, which I make. I believe also that there
  884. were Nebenpfade, which went to Tango or Cha Cha toward Latin American
  885. Rhytmen, perhaps even times on the road, on which Yello is for seventeen
  886. years again and again. It always remained free us, which we wanted to
  887. make. Perhaps not in of the Form, as those make that. That could and
  888. wanted I not at all. But reliably it gives a few items, which were
  889. inserted there, whatever of Drum'n'Bass, House or however to remind to
  890. be able. But importantly is it nevertheless that Yello actually never
  891. lost the significance and the characteristic and I believe to hear also
  892. on this disk am it very typically that it is still Yello.=20

  894. Pilz: You stress also " this disk ". In another interview I heard Dieter
  895. Meier say that you so far always delivered a type sound painting and now
  896. would have you Klankkleckse also simply once in such a way to be left,
  897. thus used rawer items. How is that meant exact?

  899. Boris: On the start with the first disk " Solid Pleasure ", where also "

  1486.    eigentlich immer noch Benzinkutschen genannt zu werden verdienen, ein
  1487.    erzieherisches Erlebnis, das, wenn es befreit von banal sozialen
  1488.    Anstrengungen genossen werden kann, im [30]zenbuddhistischen Sinn zu
  1489.    jener letzten Lockerung beitrΣgt, die auch schwerste Jungs nach einer
  1490.    ruhigen Fahrt mit der tiefen Ausgeglichenheit aussteigen lΣsst, die es
  1491.    ihnen m÷glich macht, nicht gleich dem Erstbesten, mit dem sie nicht
  1492.    einverstanden sind, die Fresse zu polieren.

  1494.    Diese Kisten der wohltemporierten Fortbewegung, die kaum zu hektischen
  1495.    Reaktionen verfⁿhren, geben meinen Kindern das Gefⁿhl der Eisenbahn,
  1496.    und auch lange Fahrten durch das sch÷ne Italien werden an den
  1497.    Picknicktischen im Fonds zu einem Pfadfindervergnⁿgen. Diese Autos
  1498.    sind noch fast ganz von Hand gefertigt, man bestellt sie wie
  1499.    Segelschiffe und schⁿtzt damit im Zeitalter der entseelten
  1500.    Massenproduktion, in dem viele Menschen wie [31]Chaplin in ½Modern
  1501.    Times╗ an [32]Verwurstungsmaschinen verelenden, ein vom Aussterben
  1502.    bedrohtes Kunsthandwerk. Die Intarsien und Lederarbeiten erhalten den
  1503.    Sinn fⁿr QualitΣt, der in unserer Wegwerfgesellschaft dringend n÷tig
  1504.    ist. Sie sind ein stiller und eleganter Aufschrei gegen die klΣglichen
  1505.    Attrappen des Wegwerfautomobilbaus, der sich auch bei den von
  1506.    sinnloser Sparwut geknechteten Zinsruinen der Oberschicht
  1507.    eingeschlichen hat, die, anstatt das Sch÷ne zu f÷rdern, in ihren
  1508.    Fliessbandvehikeln an den Kapitalzinsen ersticken, obwohl gerade sie
  1509.    die vornehme Aufgabe hΣtten, ein Gegengewicht zu schaffen gegen das
  1510.    grausige Mittelmass von Mercedes, Jaguar, BMW, Cadillac und wie die
  1511.    anderen Exponenten zeitgen÷ssischer Angeberei sonst noch heissen.

  1513.    Die eigentliche Herausforderung besteht fⁿr den aufgeklΣrten Fahrer
  1514.    von [33]Bentley oder Rolls-Royce darin, sich jenem Nirwana zu nΣhern,
  1515.    das ihn den bⁿrgerlichen Verdacht der Hochstapelei stoisch ertragen
  1516.    lΣsst. Auch dem Schreiber ist dies nicht immer verg÷nnt, und er
  1517.    beobachtet sich des ÷fteren dabei, ein verlegenes, fast
  1518.    entschuldigendes LΣcheln aufzusetzen, wenn interessierte Augen in sein
  1519.    Auto schauen, um das Gesicht des [34]Idioten zu sehen, der am Ende des
  1520.    zweiten Jahrtausends immer noch einen Schlitten aus den AnfΣngen des
  1521.    Industriezeitalters pilotiert. Ich wⁿnschte mir, dass die sch÷nen
  1522.    Autos, die den Insassen mittelfristig zu tiefer Gleichmut fⁿhren,
  1523.    Σusserlich nicht zu erkennen wΣren und aussΣhen wie ein VW Passat,
  1524.    glaube aber, dass der Auseinandersetzung mit dem Bluff dieser Karossen
  1525.    durchaus ein emanzipatorisches Moment innewohnt, das sich wohltuend
  1526.    abhebt vom [35]Seldwyla-spezifischen Understatement, einer der
  1527.    perversesten und unsinnlichsten Formen der Angeberei.
  1528.    
  1529.    Da ich so wunderbar in Fahrt gekommen bin, will ich den inneren Druck
  1530.    dieses Pamphlets in einem Ausruf gipfeln lassen: Fahrt Bentley, Leute,
  1531.    noch ist es nicht zu spΣt!

  1533.    PS: Das Schwesterschiff Rolls-Royce wurde im letzten Satz nur aus
  1534.    sprachrhythmischen Grⁿnden nicht erwΣhnt. Ich kann mit dem Snobismus
  1535.    der Tiefstapelei, mit der sich Bentley- von Rolls-Royce-Fahrern
  1536.    abzugrenzen glauben, nichts anfangen. Ob man Bentley oder Rolls-Royce

  1587. which I immediately acquired and brought home (as a "souvenir" :)

  1608. This is however, a nice alternative to the "over-cut" Essential album,
  1609. (or at least it would have been, if it was done legally and the right way)

  1611. The sound of the cassette is pretty good, however
  1612. almost all of the songs fade out a bit earlier than their
  1613. "legal cousins", on some songs the earlier fade out is
  1614. barely noticeable but on some (and especially FAT CRY)
  1615. the increase is VERY noticeable (I would say 5~7 seconds on FAT CRY).

  1617. (My guess is that the company decided to save some money on the
  1618. tape, since almost immediately after FAT CRY fades out, the tape comes
  1619. to an end).

  1621. The sleeve design is quite good and features Dieter's & Boris's picture
  1622. from Baby (just the  "t - shirt part" which is cut out quite nicely),
  1623. tiny pictures of "Stella", "Universe" (?), "Zebra", and "Excess", and

  1625. a yellow & green background.

  1649.     Do you have plans for converting the MP3's into VQF's ?
  1650.     For those unfamiliar with the subject, VQF is a new compression
  1651.     algorithm, developed just a few months ago by Yamaha. It offers a
  1652.     compression rate which is typically 30% to 35% better than MP3,
  1653.     while maintaining a much higher sound quality.
  1654.     A 80 kbps VQF sounds better than a 96 kbps MP3,
  1655.     and a 96 kbps VQF sounds almost the same as a 256 kbps MP3 (!)
  1656.     However there are a few disadvantages: The CPU usage is typically
  1657.     10% higher and a Pentium 75 (bare minimum) is required. The format
  1658.     is only a few months old and currently there are only 2 players and
  1659.     2 encoders available. (All for Windows 95) Another problem is that
  1660.  
  1661.     since it's commercial (unlike MP3) someone would have to pay
  1662.     ( oh-uh :-(
  1663.   
  1664.     In order not to annoy the people not interested in such things, I'll

  2059. sure. It's hard to know when people don't use their names/real names in
  2060. their adress. Actually I think this question has been brought up some
  2061. time ago but no one had any answers. On the Kraftwerk list there are a
  2062. few females who post (so why not here? But I wouldn't say shame on them
  2063. though) and on the New Order list there are a lot of females. But I can
  2064. tell you this, it was a girl who introduced me to Yello the first time,
  2065. but most of my female friends are not that fond of them. The first time
  2066. I played Yello to my wife she said it was to complex and rythmical and
  2067. that it made here nervous, well nowadays she really likes them but not
  2068. as much as I do. An other female fan of Yello is my doughter, but since
  2069. she's only 2.5 years old some say that it doesn't count. Well she
  2070. doesn't care, she just starts to dance everytime I put on Yello anyway.

  2115.     I am at the moment in love with 4 women. It`s perhaps a good thing that

  3830. It's a pumping techno track by 'Digital Express' surprisingly called 'Man, 
  3831. Woman, Love'. Not really a good track (13 in a dozen (or what's that expression 
  3832. in English)), but you can check that out yourself in some time.

  3889. I got Essential Yello through Red Eye Records in Sydney for around A$40 
  3890. IIFC. I'd suggest trying overseas on the net (Jonas has a list of shops 
  3891. at <http://www.algonet.se/~jonwar/CD-shops.html>). (Make sure the video 
  3892. is PAL format, not NTSC). I also got the Yello Video Show through Red 
  3893. Eye, but I think it may be deleted now. (feel free to correct me, 
  3894. anyone!)

  3956. Yep. I bought this set from Watchworld and it arrived quite quickly. The CD
  3957. is mediocre, but it's good listening for the hell of it (and if you're an
  3958. avid Yello fan). The watch is really nice! It's not cheap crap. It's got a
  3959. very good weight to it, solid feel, and looks sharp. People love it.

  4013. Sorry, but it's clear that there was an Yello-HowHow-Remix-Contest 
  4014. about two years ago ? 
  4015. There exists this "Remix-Maxi-CD" with all samples of HOW HOW. So 
  4016. theres is no Problem to put this samples into a song ;-}}
  4017. I made an Remix too - no techno elements ! I think yello mustn't make 
  4018. techno !-) But I think the contest was an
  4019. Techno-Yello-HowHow-Remix-Contest because the 4 songs on the winner 
  4020. CD was all Dance-Versions ;-[[ Anybody heard this CD ? I think 3 of 
  4021. this 4 songs are really bad ! And one of this three have absolutely 
  4022. NO Elements of HowHow !! Really strange !
