Hi,

yesterday I was able to get my hands on Yello:
In a (german) record store I could get a copy of Squeeze Please,
but not only the German release, the European one too.

But hey, how poor is the marketing section of Mercury.
The vinyl 12" double release is announced on Yello's homepage for
the 31st of Jan 2000 but the guy in the shop did not know anything
about a vinyl release. Even when I asked him to check the computer
for a vinyl release he could not find any info about one or more vinyl
12".

My question is now:
Does it exist at all?
Is there someone among you all who was able to obtain Squeeze Please on
vinyl?

Just wanted to intorduce myself to the list. First heard of Yello when =
Ferris Buhler was in the theater and they were among the first CDs in my =
collection back in '87 or so. My fav CD is probably "you've gotta say =
yes..." but I love nearly all their output. "Baby" is my least favorite, =
but I wouldn't do without it. I think Yello has pioneered many modern =
music styles un-credited. Techno, ambiant, industrial... Yet they remain =
so original.

I was happy to find this list is hosted at Xmission here in Salt Lake. I'm =
aquainted with Pete Ashdown and think he runs a great ISP. I also was =
impressed to note our list-owner is the honorable Lazlo Nibble, whose =
discography is my fav CD collecting resource.

A few questions for the list:

What group/artist is as/more original and unique than Yello?=20

What group/artist creates soundscapes/environments comparable to Yello?

This give me a real good excuse to make a post to the list, as I have been very busy and have not posted for quite some time.

While I'm at it, I'd like to say that MP is a classic yello album. Very unique, but still very yello.
While its taken me a few listens to really like it, unlike PU, where i fell in love with it instantly, MP was still well worth the wait.
A few more "boris" re mixes of sqeeze please would be welcomed along with any others.

I finally received my copy of Squeeze Please from CDNow after a six week
wait, and I think I like the single more than I do the album MP!  For some
reason MP has failed to grow on me, the first couple of listens were good,
but since then it has slipped down my new release stack.

Also wanted to comment on a couple of recent issues that have popped up, on
the language debate I think if Yello are going to concentrate on the German
market as they have for the last couple of CDs then maybe they should record
in German, why not?  Yello has made it quite clear that they consider their
power base Europe (since that is the only place they release their CDs!)
they might as well record in their native tounge.  I've set down my
adventures in trying to obtain Yello material here in Colorado and it's a
struggle in frustration and will test your patience in waiting for a music
online service to import them.  As a long forgotten sage once said,
"Anything worth having is worth waiting for."  I couldn't agree more.

To Larry Sanders, welcome to the group!  American participation has been
lacking, in answer to your question as to who provides background music
equal to Yello  I've been hooked on the FLA/Delerium consortium for a while
now, but as to someone transporting you to another place the only CD that
I've heard lately that will take you away is Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile.

Note to all:  Yesterday I picked up the new Kraftwerk Euro2000 single, as
much as I hate to say this because I love Kraftwerk, leave this one alone!
Kraftwerk's day has surely passed and this is almost embarrasing.

This wasn't actually the issue, which was more to do with a request for
English translations of German interviews/press coverage. Yello (unlike
Kraftwerk) have almost never released any material (certainly to my
knowledge) sung in German and it would be a little strange if they started
doing so now. The post also gives the impression that it is Yello's own
decision only to release material in continental Europe, which as far as I'm
aware is NOT the case - it stems more from the unwillingness of record
companies in Europe and America to offer them anything other than a short
term contract, a situation they view as totally unsatisfactory.

IMHO I couldn't disagree more about the comments about the Kraftwerk single,
but then I have little or no time for NIN who just represent to me a highly
commercialised watered-down version of KMFDM, Ministry etc etc.

There haven't been many posts to this list recently and I'm a little sad that
they all tend to be so negative about MP which is a thoroughly worthwhile
Yello album as far as I'm concerned - but everyone's entitled to their own
opinion..............

 Howdy all!

 Anyone know what the difference is between the 5 cut and the 7 cut
single of Squeeze Please? Are these Boris remixes? (he asked, crossing

 I like the new disc. Reminds me of early yello. Much cleaner
"orchestration" than Pocket Universe. I love Dieter's contribution to
the end product, but I wish Boris would do an entire album of
instrumental works like Point Blank, Stalakdrama, Homer Hossa, Ciel
Ouvert, Salut Mayoumba etc.

Oh man! I've heard this one and (nostalgia not involved honest) I really
love it. Ok, they haven't changed much, in fact not at all, but.. very

I still haven't quite got my head round some of the tracks on MP. It's a
strange one in some ways. Maybe it's because there's 5 or 6 classy but
well-mannered, medium paced/pitched songs that don't sound THAT different
from each other, a couple of more frantic turkeys and 3 awesome
instrumentals. Yes, I just love Mirror/Point Blank/Cyclops, some of Boris's
best surely..

Picture.

Actually, after hearing it, I began wondering if Dieter has any insight, or
training with the antroposophical, artform called 'Sprachgestaltung' (or

This is an interesting one. in the real world, you'd contact the music
publisher (C) on the record label for your country, and the (P) for the
performing rights, again in your country, which may of course be a
different country. you look up that company, mail them (not email).

It does raise an interesting issue, because you are publishing world-wide
and the same copyrights and performing rights are different country to
country. too much for me to think about, it may not be an issue.

the other thing you need to bear in mind, flash may be nice and groovy,
but i'll never see it, my choice of platform does not support these WINTEL
toys, i would never darken my door with shoveware, so your efforts would
be wasted on me. i go away very quickly from sites which tell me i need X,
Y or Z to view it. i don't bother. just a little web tip.

I've got to chime in about Flash. Made by Macromedia (who make Shockwave)
the Flash plug-in has come with Netscape Navigator AND MS Internet Explorer
since versions 3 of both. Flash pages give you fast (FAST) vector graphics,
sound files that are TINY (mp3 streaming a lot of the time), and many times,
if you don't have the current version, the site will quickly update yours
for you. In my opinion, Flash is the best thing since HTML.

I wish Yello would use Flash in their website instead of (or complimenting)
the Java. I guess I'll just have to make one. :p

And completely off-subject, has anyone heard of Yamo? It's a group with
Wolfgang Flur of (I think) Kraftwerk. Their only album, Time Pie, came out
in 1997. Super cool!
