The
Not literally but same nuances.

Yello there
At last I have been sent by a very kind person a recording of "Motion
Picture". Naughty, yes, but when it (eventually??) gets released in UK I
faithfully promise to get the CD so Dieter can buy some golf tees or
something.
Anyway... after initial hmmm? Oh yeah? and ahhh... I gotta say YES! First
impression was that it was a little samey, at least mood-wise. Not one
quarter as "wacky" and absurdist as some of their other albums, but for me
that's a good thing as I always preferred their classy side; Lost Again, not
Bananas To The Beat etc. The beats are fairly non-pacey. I'd heard people
saying it was a return to the Yello of old but I disagree. Only the single
sounds like old stuff and to my mind it's the worse track on the album! I'm
glad they have delved into the slinkier, deeper side of techno rather than
slamming up the BMPs as they did with tracks like Resistor (too
undignified!) Actually tracks like "Houdini" remind me of Fluke (though
Fluke pinched Yello's style first of course). A big difference on this album
is Boris's (slightly disappointing) use of fairly generic techno-ish sounds.
This is evident on Distant Mirror though then again this is one of my
favourites tracks. I love "Point Blank"! Very classy indeed and it really
moves along and creates one of those famous "sound-pictures", as does the
incredible "Cyclops". Despite the rather inappropriate image of a giant
mythical one-eyed monster, this is music to shake the end of the 20th
century! Someone said that they wish Yello's music could appear in something
other than crappy films. Indeed. Tracks like this one and "Sweet Thunder"
are crying out to be soundtracks for something suitably epic. All in all MP,
like PU, shines when Yello look forward and not back.

Subject: (yello) Yello on Swiss Radio
Hi all,
My source in the Swiss alps submitted this to my site today:
"This Saturday (27-11-1999) will be a interview with Dieter Meier and Boris
Blank on DRS3, a Swiss radiochannel. In the radioshow Kosmos from 17:00 to
20:00. The program will be a top 5 on Boris and Dieters favorite music in
the eighties."
- -A shame I don't have DRS3 on my radio here in Denmark, and I bet I'm not
the only one on this list with that problem, hehe
Maybe one of you from Switzerland will make a short transcript to the list
- - or maybe even make it available on the site....? (David x'ing his fingers)
