  49. At last I have been sent by a very kind person a recording of "Motion
  50. Picture". Naughty, yes, but when it (eventually??) gets released in UK I
  51. faithfully promise to get the CD so Dieter can buy some golf tees or
  52. something.
  53. Anyway... after initial hmmm? Oh yeah? and ahhh... I gotta say YES! First
  54. impression was that it was a little samey, at least mood-wise. Not one
  55. quarter as "wacky" and absurdist as some of their other albums, but for me
  56. that's a good thing as I always preferred their classy side; Lost Again, not
  57. Bananas To The Beat etc. The beats are fairly non-pacey. I'd heard people
  58. saying it was a return to the Yello of old but I disagree. Only the single
  59. sounds like old stuff and to my mind it's the worse track on the album! I'm
  60. glad they have delved into the slinkier, deeper side of techno rather than
  61. slamming up the BMPs as they did with tracks like Resistor (too
  62. undignified!) Actually tracks like "Houdini" remind me of Fluke (though
  63. Fluke pinched Yello's style first of course). A big difference on this album
  64. is Boris's (slightly disappointing) use of fairly generic techno-ish sounds.
  65. This is evident on Distant Mirror though then again this is one of my
  66. favourites tracks. I love "Point Blank"! Very classy indeed and it really
  67. moves along and creates one of those famous "sound-pictures", as does the
  68. incredible "Cyclops". Despite the rather inappropriate image of a giant
  69. mythical one-eyed monster, this is music to shake the end of the 20th
  70. century! Someone said that they wish Yello's music could appear in something
  71. other than crappy films. Indeed. Tracks like this one and "Sweet Thunder"
  72. are crying out to be soundtracks for something suitably epic. All in all MP,
  73. like PU, shines when Yello look forward and not back.
