Hoi Everyone!
Since this new FTP-site has more stability then mine (and can be
online 24 hours a day), I decided to terminate mine. I know when I
overstayed my welcome ;o)
For the users who have an account at my other site, don't worry,
that one'll continue till the end of time. Your personal ID's and PW's
will stay unchanged.
So The SunSinner's Yello FTP-Site is no more...
Tokens of compassion in the form of bundles of money are
welcome at any time ;o)
Groeven,
Olaf.

Greetings,
First, I would like to say thank you to Gennadiy for providing us Yello
fans with a place to store the rare tracks, most excellent....
Second, I would like to make a suggestion about including small text
files containing the information about the tracks you upload, or perhaps
you can post it here on the mailing list, just to help avoid confusion.
thanks for listening,

Subject: (yello) discussion about Pocket Universe
Hi all,
I can't take part in this discussion because my English is not enough to say
what I think and feel about it. It's a great pity for me. But as far as my
hobbie is collecting the jokes, your discussion about Pocket Universe
reminded me one Russian joke:
"Once some animals felt down to the pit. This pit was very deep so they
couldn't leave it. Naturally, they became very hungry soon. Clever Fox said,
'Let's narrate the jokes. We will eat somebody who's joke isn't funny
enough'. So the first narrator was Hare. His joke was very funny. Everybody
except Giraffe was laughing. But Giraffe vas VERY serious. They looked at
him and decided that Hare's joke wasn't very funny. Poor Hare was eaten.
Next morning animals heard Giraffe laugh very loudly. They asked him why is
he laughing. And he said, 'WHAT A FUNNY JOKE HARE TOLD YESTERDAY!!!!!!"
Do you understand what I meant? Don't you think guys that some of Yello fans
can be compared to this Giraffe?!
Best,
Olga.
P.S. Sometimes some of you call all the list members "guys". But the REAL
gentleman doesn't forget of lady's presence. I mean I'm not a guy (I'm sure
at least). Don't forget it please ;)

That file has a "mdat" signature at the 04h offset. Neither QuickTime 3

It could be that the movies are still in the Macintosh file format, and need
be flattened first, to be able to play on other platforms. There is a
freeware program called qtflat that will do the job, but you also need the
movie's resource fork, in a separate file. Perhaps the persons who uploaded
the files could also upload the resource forks?

Subject: (yello) FTP
Hello to everyone!
Over the weekend I received many questions about new FTP site. Instead of
answering individually I would like to respond to everyone.
1 Available disk space. At this time I have about 300 Mb free. If it will
not be enough I will be able to get more space- at least few GB.
2 I am thinking about implementing password protection to the site, but
still undecided. Please, give me your opinions.
3 I created new directories: Video- for movie files (I guess you figured
this!), Software- for encoders, players and related programs and Others for
non- Yello music that can be interesting. Still, only Incoming directory is
open for uploading. I will move files to appropriate places. Please, try to
help me- if you, for example, uploading several Kraftwerk songs create
"Kraftwerk" directory and put files in it.
It was a very good idea to accompany each file with another one with same
name and extension txt and put notes into this file.
4 I do not want to make promises I can not keep. So... I can't explain why
certain file will not play. I didn't make it, I just gave a storage space. I
can't give directions how to upload or download files using various
software- unless I receive many complaints, I assume that FTP site is
working properly and the problem is on your end. If FTP gives you troubles,
try using HTTP. Don't get me wrong- I will try to help, but I can't promise
it. If you can't read certain file, inform me,. If many people have the same
problem I will post a warning.
5 Site runs on Pentium 133 computer, 96 Mb RAM, Windows NT 4, IIS 4. It
should stay on for as long as I am employed here. Sometimes I will have to
stop services if I need to move files or reboot the machine. Still, uptime
will be more than 99%.
I am always open for ideas and suggestions!

Just remember there's no point in having a list to discuss Yello if
you can't ventilate your personal opinions and people don't react to
them. So no need to appologize I'ld say... even though you're

I'm sure there's loads of mailing lists and chat groups where disagreements
arise in a much more heated manner. I should think on the whole this Yello
list is
quite good for non-flaming - and quite a good place for sensible talk.
As for Olga's suggestion that this list is too serious - I don't think the
list is
serious enough. I appreciate people trying to make light-hearted comments -
but there
is a time and place for those type of things i.e. light-hearted joke lists.
We've
all had a good laugh now, (ha ha) but attempt at humour should be dealt
with appropriately - in a responsible manner. If your message contains any
material that one may class as
a joke or a short "quip" please label the offending message as required.
Some of us know
when to have a joke and a laugh (see above) and when not to. I like to
think that I am a man of a certain respectability and seriousness. I'm sure
my colleagues will support me on
this serious and formal subject.

Well, I don't remember my first birthday, but I was definitely one year
old.
Since there is no year 0, and the numbering started at 1, the first
thousand years after this would end on December 31, 1000 and the second
thousand will end on December 31, 2000.
It's actually all quite silly, as the calendar and its measurement have
all changed over the years. It's estimated that Jesus was born around
the year 4, so even that measurement is a bit off.
Sure, I'll celebrate with everybody else when the digits change over to
2000, but I'll have an even bigger party when the next century begins on
January 1, 2001.
Hopefully I'll be playing a new Yello release at the party!

Certainly jokes like the one she "told", are humerous in intent and indeed
come complete with a punch line, however such jokes can also have a serious
side in that they also seek to illustrate certain things about the way we
behave or react to different situations. Your comment seems to imply she was
just being flippant, which I think is a little unfair.
I recently joined another list for a group called SWANS (who some of you may
possibly have heard of), anyway .... even given the multi-national nature of
the Yello list (in contrast most of the members of the SWANS list appear to be
of US/UK extraction), the postings I receive from the Yello list are in
general a good deal more intelligible and interesting.
The fact is I've always had an interest in differing kinds of musics and
consequently have in the past have subscribed to various lists, all of which
I've quickly become bored with... the single exception being the Yello list.
Anyway thought I'd end on a distinctly positive note.................

Yes, of course. I wanted to illustrate this discussion about PU. I meant
that when it was released, many people found this album boring and told that
it was not Yello's music anymore. While listening to PU they heard only
"traditional techno". But only a few times ago many fans just UNDERSTOOD
that PU is a great album -- like that Giraffe who's understood the funny
joke only the next day since it had been told. This late discussion is an
illustration to this thought. Isn't it true? Another thing I understood is
that you don't understand Russian (or not only Russian?) jokes.
Respectfully yours,
Olga
P.S. Don't take the WHOLE life too seriously guys, it's terribly boring

Sorry Olga for misinterpreting your message.
I certainly didn't realize that we were all the Giraffes in the sense that
we take a while to fully appreciate PU. (i.e.
[we] label it as rubbish one moment (we don't 'understand it' ) - then say
how wonderful it is the next moment. Sorry Olga!
But I have to say the biggest joke is on those people who took my last

Oh Yeah,
Those Blah Blah Blah lyrics in 2 the C certainly makes you wonder about
'who we are and what ourself are all about'.
<grin>
Okay-okay -I'll stop now :-)

Sure, but I'm not taking site maintenance so *seriously*.

Maybe not about Zebra though ;-).
Personally I think that Zebra is there weakest album, even if it contains a
couple of great tracks. To me it sounded a bit unfinished or like they
didn't exactley know where to go next. I've also got the feeling first time
I listened to it, that Dieters voice sounded a bit uninspired.
Just my personal opinions though.
Kindest regards
Eric

That's how I understood your posting aswell. I thought you made a good
point, and joke, with that posting. From time to time when you look back in
life, you change opinion about things and are able to understand things in a
bigger perspective than when you first time got confronted with it.

I do appreciate Russian jokes though. To me they not only are great laughs,
but also gives you something to think about.

Hello Yello Fellows
Well I asked about the very quick lyrics on 'On Track' some time ago
and so far....... nothing! Come on guys =AD somebody must have an idea.
(No James - don't go there!)
How about somebody asking Boris or Deiter? In fact, do they read the
posts on this list? Is this THE official Yello list? It would be great
if they contributed once in a while. I'm also on the 'Little Feat'
digest in the USA and regularly get postings from the band, even when
they're on tour. It makes belonging to the digest such a thrill to know
the band are responding directly to their fans. Yello - say hello!
Just a quick note of thanks to Kay for the info many months ago about
teleCD - I just got my copy of 'Essential Yello' video. Wonderful!
Watching some of the oldie songs reminded me of just how varied they
were then, and yes, I admit it, Pocket Universe is a bit too repetitive.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trashing it, but I'm hoping for a more
uplifting album next time around.
Each and every one of Yello's albums contain fantastic tracks and let's
face it, very few albums are great throughout. Although I can't really
find a bad track on 'Baby'. For me it's the best so far.
And finally..... Manolo over in Spain was having trouble getting hold
of Yello albums. How's it going Manolo? Any luck yet? I hope so.
Move........ Dance......... Be Born

Just out of curiosity, how many of you yello fans were around BEFORE Oh Yeah
on the Ferris Buhler soundtrack?--I'm looking for more of their first albums.

Rolling Stone used to have this little curious ad in the back, "Buy or Die",
from an unknown label, Ralph Records. I ordered it - turned out to be a
Ralph sampler. Yello's "Bostich" was on there. I flipped out after the
first listen and ran out to get the first album, and have been a fan since
that day.
