Yiiippppeeeeeeee!!!!!!!! [happy now? :-) ]
Since it's a 'best of' remix album I assume it won't have any or many
new
remixes (apart from Boris') - unless one of the Hardfloor mixes get in.
Remixes I'd like to see: Trego Snare Part 2, Vicious Games (Vicious
Remix), any rare remixes I haven't heard yet (like the Who's Gone Notre
Dame Mixes - anyone heard these?).
Remixes I don't want to see: Any of the To The Sea Remixes (particularly
not the UK 12" - I haven't heard the German 12"), Tremendous Pain, Tied
Up In Africa / In African Beats, Blazing Saddles.
(That should hopefully spark some controversy)

Mmm. Distribtion is a bit scarce in the UK with Yello. No reason why it
should be any
different to future releases. :-(

I really like the Tremendous Pain mixes, especially the Bible mix. It's a
bugger of a mystery that the mix wasn't included on the Playstation WipeOut
soundtrack!

You appreciate it so much more though and I find import CD's a much higher
quality then it is here in the states artwork and all.

Thanks, Travis, for the most interesting posting lately.
Here's what Dieter said in 1989:
"The characterÆs name is Snootie Paulson. HeÆs the guy who wants something
but instead of starting somewhere and really doing it, he dreams of it.
Snootie Paulson takes this steering wheel and sits in his chair in his room
and dreams of winning æthe big raceÆ - but heÆs not even started a race on a
bicycle. This is the mistake most young artists make, they always think of
doing something fabulous insted of doing something very small and
unimportant thatÆs right for them. ItÆs like climbing a mountain - of course
itÆs fabulous to be on top of Mount Everest, but doing it starts with
lifting your first foot. In the video a charcter comes in and pulls Snootie
Paulson back from his dream and says æOK I give you a prize, now come back
to the real worldÆ - and his name is Willie Ratio. [Music Technology 1/89]"

I have a funny store to tell: remixers are often quite
surprised to find out that when Yello's tapes arrive,
someone forgot to include the track sheets (the
list of what sound is on each track). They phone
back only to be told that there are no! Boris is not
using track sheets. Now this wouldn't be *that*
strange if it was a 16-track tape or so - but we're
talking about over 100 tracks here!!
By the way, don't expect the "mystery" album
before February next year. I will give you all the
details before it's out (unless Roger is faster).

Thanks Travis for great message to the list.
I think on a philosophical note - what sums up Yello for me is what Boris
is quoted as a saying: -
"Yello is like a huge experimental field on which anything can happen."
You could take this as a healthy attitude towards being open-minded, and
prepared to accept change - not just in music
but in life itself.

I was thinking along these lines when I was recently listening to
"To The Sea" and noticing how simplistic the music sounded in
comparison to other Yello tracks. (A comparison to a Madonna track
would not be unreasonable, though even Madonna, with help from
William Orbit, is getting more complex.) It wouldn't hold up well as
an instrumental. This would be my guess as to why fans of Yello-past
haven't been too excited over "To The Sea."

I did record the How How (The Premix) to computer and cut the patterns
to separate waves. I wrote a kind of tracksheet since I wanted to
re-assemble the song by using the remix samples only.
Your observation about the complexity of the mixes is what I have found
too.

If you can't get it locally when it's released, you can always buy it =
over the net. I have a list of shops on my web site, and I know Jonas =
W=E5rstad and Nik Upphed do as well.

Same reason why the "Live at the Roxy" track on their 1981-1985 compilation was
disappointing. You can't just plug a bunch of yello samples into a synthesizer
and just hammer away and out comes a tune. It has to be thought out and pieced
together like some great painting - layers upon layers over the canvas.

In addition to the comment about the Madonna album, I must say that the new
album by the UK pop-combo 'Steps'
certainly does put 'Pocket Universe' in the shade. Well worth a listen. : -
