Subject: (yello) The Worst
After reading all of your worst albums that you have bought, (and you
have some bad ones there), I thought I would throw in my all time
worst, and that is... Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music, not only did I
buy this, I bought it on the day it came out, and actually listened to
all 4 sides and wondered if I was missing something. Hey I was young,
I was naive, I was not aware of the term "Contractual Obligation".
On to the radio subject, I used to have a few connections in the US
radio markets and as much as I hate to say it, if you think calling to
your local radio stations will do any good your sadly mistaken. US
radio is tightly governed by radio marketing service playlists. The
stations that are not fed satellite transmissions, use these playlists
which means that some little payola fed dufus in New York or Dallas is
determining what you should be listening to. And unfortunately it's
not Yello. Short of Yello doing something that is so whacked like a
duet with Celine Dion are you likely to hear them on the radio.
Well that's my two cents worth.

Presumably, since Yello have the sole "soundtrack by" credit on the posters
and all the advertising material.

I checked it up: Yello did provide some unique music
to the movie, but only incidental (background) music.
The Hardfloor remix of Vicious Games was only released
on a 12" single, no CD (yet). But as Yello fans we're all
getting used to vinyl-only releases, aren't we? :-#
A final thing: My next interview with Boris is set, preliminary,
for May. I'm aiming for two weeks and therefore I'm asking
if anyone on this list is living in Zurich and possibly have a
spare room for two. Or at least know someone who has.
(We'll pay of course, it's just that a hotel for two, for two
weeks, in Zurich isn't exactly cheap...)

Subject: Re:(yello) The Worst
I guess I had better 'fess up as to the worst thing I've ever bought. It
was "Greetings from the Gutter" by Dave Stewart (former half of
Eurythmics). It was a promo copy and it was only $7, but OH MY GOD...talk
about an appropriate title. I've never heard anything so horrible.
Usually a CD can "grow" on me if I don't like it after the first listen or
two, but this one never even took root. It was the most hideous thing in
the world to my ears, and I'm still asking myself why I bought it.
(Because I was a Eurythmics nut, that's why!!) I'm so glad Annie's doing
well on her own. :)
Well, it *did* have one song that I halfway liked, and Laurie Anderson
*did* do a little electric violin work on one track, but that ain't enough
to redeem it... Stewart has even done some good work with my other fave,
Nina Hagen, but I don't care. And yet I still hold onto it for some
perverse reason. Oh well...

Subject: (yello) Y News
From: Georg Plank <a9103394@unet.univie.ac.at>
Hi fellow Yello community !
After a long time I managed to get my own connection at home.
So I do not have to go to the terminals at the university.
I bought the modem about two month ago - and that was
exactly the time I needed to get that f*g thing work correctly.
The result was: 678 messages from my server to check through
and a load some money I will have to pay for my telephone-bill...
But now to the news.
As I wrote months before Boris had been busy remixing "More".
He made two new mixes one is called "electric rhytm'n blues mix"
and the other one "bischof street"(I am not so sure about this name).
But bad for us: the label refused to release a "More" single.
They said that the album was not selling good enough and also
the "To The Sea" single was rather a "smash" than a "hit" !!!
Now I ask you, whose fault is it, when the release of PU
has been delayed for months in the USA and UK ?
Who was the genius, who decided that the "On Track" remixes
were only available for DJ's and the CD-Rom was also handled
as a limited edition item ?
Specially the On Track CD-Rom was only available in Switzerland at
first.
And every supermarket got hundreds of them, but in the neighboring
Germany, France and Austria you only got one if you know the record-
shopkeeper very well.
Speaking as a Yello collector I am very pleased to add such rare things
to my
collection, but as a Yello fan I would rather buy the singles because I
like
the songs and do not want to deal with a shopkeeper because of some
limitation.
With those facts in mind, you cannot say that PU + singles got a bad
sale.
They only got a bad promotion !!!
Now for new announcement at the end:
Yello will release a new album at the end of the year ...!!!
And it will not be a "Snowball" or whatever soundtrack.
More info as soon as I know more about it....
I hope my English was not to bad - I always forget about grammar
when getting emotional !
Yours,
G E O R G
PS:
For all of you who have known the Austrian pop singer FALCO
- - He died last month by a car accident. But his label released (post
mortem)
a new album this week called "Out of the Dark" and it sells and
sells....
One of the lines in his last song was: "Do you have to die for getting
success !"
He might have known that he will not be alive when the album will be
released....
