From: "Lynne Stewart" <lynne@jklm.net> Subject: (TrekChat) Yahoo Date: 03 Jun 2000 07:50:58 -0400 Rule number 365...now your auctionne rules! Yesterday I found an item on Yahoo I wanted..it had no bids and was due to close in two days. Since this was going to close after I left on vacation, I picked a proxy and placed the proxy. To my surprise, the auctionne ended, I was declared the winner at my proxy price. No one else had bid on this item up to that point and perhaps wouldn't have) Turns out, and this is what I didn't know, there was something called a buy price on the item. My proxy happened to be the buy price, so it sold it to me at the buy price. So, an item that would have (possibly ) sold to me at 40 pounds if no one else had bid, sold to me at 50 pounds. S'okay, I guess, but still, money is money...;) I would have preferred not to pay the extra, so read yer rules, don't be a dumb blonde...;) Lynne Lynne Stewart http://www.jklm.net/index.html KLM Enterprises, Inc. 2805 Oakcliff Ct Johnson City, TN 37601 Home of the AMOK TIMES NEWSLETTER-Info on Star Trek Cards KLM CARDS-Trek cards and stuff for sale! Dear stcardgeek (lynne@jklm.net), Recently we became aware that your eBay registered account was involved in the following activity: * Sending Spam - Spam is the sending of unsolicited, commercial email including unwanted email to past bidders. which is not permitted at eBay. We realize that you may not have been aware that there was a rule against this activity. Therefore, we would like to take this opportunity to invite you to review our site policies, which can be found at: http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/investigates.html#misc Please understand our goal is to help you understand our policies to ensure successful experiences at eBay. Therefore, we respectfully request that you refrain from this activity in the future to avoid the possibility of a suspension of your eBay registration. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this important matter. Regards, Andreas Von der Fehr (safeharbor@ebay.com) > > > Gosh, That never happened to meee. I need to know by Thursday if anyone is interested in purchasing this product. WARNING: Decipher raised their prices....like by $10 a box for boosters. It won't go cheaply Star Trek[TM] CCG Tribbles Focus Of A New Groundbreaking Game! Battle stations! Furry little critters are invading Decipher's Star Trek Customizable Card Game[TM], bringing along with them a plethora of new gaming elements that will take the game's environment by storm! An incredibly action-packed product, The Trouble With Tribbles will be the first Star Trek CCG expansion set to feature material from the original Star Trek television series. Some players have been longing to build a deck containing only classic characters - an endeavor made possible by this new set. Travel back in time and re-create classic adventures, including the events of the Deep Space NineTM "Trials and Tribble-ations" episode! Players will use omnipresent Tribbles to disrupt their opponent's activities in a myriad of different ways, but that's not all... Tribbles cards can also be used in the fun bonus Tribbles Game unrelated to Star Trek CCG and played only with Tribble cards! Each Tribble card sports a special icon that has no influence on the regular game and only comes into play in the Tribbles Game. Many things are possible within the Tribbles Game: accumulate points by "scoring" Tribbles from your special Tribbles deck, rob your opponents of their high-value cards, set up combos that let you play four times in a row, all in the hopes of achieving the highest score possible. So get your Tribbles deck together! Will you go for sheer power, or for cunning and subtlety? The decision is up to you. In fact, the Tribbles bonus game turned out to be so much fun that Decipher decided to also introduce a four-player boxed game, totally independent of the Star Trek CCG! The box contains everything required to start playing the Tribbles game immediately: four Tribbles decks, a scorecard and the rules. This quick, fun and easy game will appeal to Star Trek fans across the board. A 141-card set, The Trouble With Tribbles will feature two preconstructed Starter Decks in addition to the standard 11-card Expansion Packs. Each of these decks - one Klingon, one Federation - will be bursting with features, including an exclusive premium card only found in Starter Decks: Captain Koloth for the Klingon side, and Lt. Sisko for the Federation crew. For new players who want to jump into the game with a punch, this is it! The Trouble With Tribbles will also contain selected Deep Space Nine and The Next Generation personnel, several cards hinted at in previous sets, and one ultra-rare card: the cantankerous Dr. McCoy! This choice was made as a tribute to the late DeForest Kelley, who portrayed the beloved doctor for more than three decades. A treasure-trove both for players and collectors, The Trouble With Tribbles is currently set for a July 2000 release date. Can you say "Great Tribble Hunt?" There are 12 Dark Side and 13 Light Side Super Rare Foils, totalling 25 of the 114 Reflections foils. (URF) Ultra-Rare Foil: is the most rare. There is but one Dark Side foil - Darth Vader, and one Light Side foil - Luke Skywalker - of this rarity type in the Reflections set. OK, according to the website the ST One would be similar to the SW. That confuses me since I heard there would be only 50 rares and then rgualr cards..this sounds like a full foil set? Be careful and reconsider any further bidding on the fake Trek Leaf set up on eBay. If you looked at the bottom of this guys auction, you will see that this is the european reprint set and not the original 1967 set. The reprint set can usually be found for $50-$100. Let's say I found a true Leaf set for $10 (HA!) and sold it for $1500, goody for me! Or I found tons of 7 of 9 cards (seems a hot items) and am able to sell them all at a great profit, goody for me! But, the idea of selling something KNOWING it's not worth anywhere near the value is wrong and dishonorable. Once it gets extremely out of synch like this, the seller should step up and stop the auctionne. Relist it with only the right information so there is no chance of misunderstanding and I guess if at that point if it goes for $810, well, party one, at least he did his best. At some point, it is the buyers responsibility. What I can't figure out is all the yap about how his friend collected the set back in the 60's...I mean in light of the new info that's all crap, yes? HOWEVER< it brings up an interesting questions. I have a collector who approached me about validating a Leaf set she wanted to buy. The collector with the set said she'd had the set in her collection since the 70's. There seemed to be no desire on anyone's part to be deceptive. The set turned out to be the Euro set. I went back to the buyer and pressed for more details one when this person acquired the set and there was no further follow up on it, but I thought it would have added an interesting dimension to the euro set if it had been available much earlier then when they popped up in the 90's Lynne > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-trekchat@lists.xmission.com > [mailto:owner-trekchat@lists.xmission.com]On Behalf Of Arif Ansari > Sent: Sunday, June 18, 2000 7:20 PM > To: TrekChat@lists.xmission.com > Subject: Re: (TrekChat) Euro Leaf set > > > Hi Jim > > I normally wouldn't get involved in this type of activity. > But I totally > think you did the right thing. If I understand it correctly, the wholesale price could put the box price at about $80. A BOX WITH ONLY 15 PACKS IN IT. Those 15 packs will have NO NEW cards in it. The only thing 'new' will be the foils (50 or more, I'm not sure) which are still old cards foiled. What's worse is you could get packs with ALL COMMONS. I passed on the SW reflections and I will = pass on the ST reflections. The only reason SW sold as much=20 as it did...depite the high price point, was your ability to pick up = limited versions from all the sets. New collectors were the big movers = of=20 this stuff. You could spend $270 (3 boxes) and have pretty close to all = the BB cards from all the expansions. In the packs 1 foil and=20 the rest "random" cards from ALL the past expansions, 3-4 boxes would put = you very close indeed.....and to think how many boxes I=20 bought over the years. This is why I stopped. I don't do any more SW CCG. = T&T will be last ST , and I may not even go for them. I=20 stopped ST non sports collecting pretty much after season 7....except for = the motion...which I now regret. The rehash of pictures in=20 the sets was getting old. Here's a hint for slybox ...zooming in (or out) = or reversing the picture is not a new "never before seen" photo. Decipher's SW relflection also had an added advantage. People play = it...not just collect it. Players need those non main rares to build deck. (frankly ST is a Collectable Card Game and SW is a Customizable Card = Game...for proof..when was the last national ST tourney in your city??) The reflections sets are just reusing old cards....cheap when you think = about it.... You take a card that requires no design, effort or cost = really besides printing. You then"foil" the card (one of the oldest chase = card technologies) , add consumer *POOF* instant money. Heck you really = don't even have to market them. I have shops here in Tucson that ordered = two or three reflections boxes and they sat for weeks on the counters. = OHHH...let's not forget the way my collection has dropped in value(not = that I would ever sell). Mains=20 and ships are the only things worth anything anymore. Yes, for a brief = time rares were selling quickly, but as there was a large influx,=20 most rares sell for $1. (far less than pack price!) I offered a guy 120 = rares for $150 on the newsgroups...he scoffed. I don't blame him. I=20 have stopped SW and ST collecting...but I do still do other non-sports = cards. These other sets are one or two shot stuff, lost in space,=20 Starship troopers, sleepy hollow, Bond etc...I admit the shear volume of = chase card subsets for some of these is, well, sucks. I compare=20 them to the recent ST sets.....not only a lot of subsets but hard to = complete. OK, you fellow trekkies (and yeah having watched TOS=20 on TV in 1960's allows me to use any term I wish and being a trekkie is a = badge of honor for me) think about this.... I buy three boxes of James Bond (pick any set) and I have 90% of the set = and enough fodder to complete it and other non sports sets (however, I need to trade within the cards set first...I am such a sucker = for a fair trade I often trade bond, when I still need bond, for=20 other non sports I need.) When I talk to Lynne or J!m they are buying = cases to finish sets. sets with HTF autos....sets with "gold" stamp photos that are the same as silver stamp! Memorial cards (thanks for = letting us all share the memory rittenhouse....I have yet to see one) Sorry for the long winded speech...but marketing has just ruined ST and SW = collecting... ST=3D action figures...just about dried up. cards...too many photos I have = seen in other sets, too many sets, too much chase. SW=3Daction figures....geeze 180-300 a year!!! cards...do we really need = two sets, series 1 and 2 of everything?? and add to that a=20 retail verse hobby version...5 sets for the phantom menace so far.=20 and Lynne...good luck. This was the thing that got people into trouble with the BB set. I know people with BOXES sitting around. It was marketed as a limited edtion...well, define limited....when I worked up the stats on theiir print run, it wa amazing, how much they could make and still call it limited. People's perception of a trading card led to unnecessary high prices for a game card that when the full print rrun is in the market place really doesn't hold up. I prioritize CCG stuff really low on my list of gotta haves, sold all my BOG foils and won't do reflections. I too stopped collecting ST CCG right after first contact. I couldn't convince myself to purchase another box of ccg cards after that. For me it just was too darn expensive. To buy 3 boxes of ccg cards to put 1 set together is crazy. RIPPINHOUSE I'm fairly certain I should not of collected any rittenhouse star trek cards. I should of concentrated on getting the few rare auto's I needed. With all the money iv spent on the rittenhouse cards and promos I certainly would of been able to afford 2 or 3 rare TOS autos by now. ACTION FIGURES I stopped collecting ST action Figures soon after the last batch of KB toy exclusives came out. I then sold %90-%95 of my action figures and toy collection when the time was right. Thank god too. Even playmates toys had enough of it. They stopped making them around the same time. SLYBOX Why.. Why.. Why do I continue to be suckered into buying every new product? I'm not done with the previous 3 sets yet. Don't they know they shouldn't release anything till i'm compleatly done. Sometime in 2005 should do it. I don't collect DS9. I neither spent too much on it or pine for it at night, so if it turns out to be more common, fine by me. But, I find it odd that SkyBox would not only allow such a discrepancy. Steve Dubin, who was the Entertainment director after Steve C was the one who got terribly bent when he heard that people were selling the Voided cards, claiming them as rare. He issued a press release so that people wouldnt get taken. He's the one who said it was "the rarest of all Star Trek cards" 1000 wouldn't come close to being rare, so why would he say it? Why would Berman sign DOUBLE his contract, which was 500)? Let's say everyone's telling the truth....Berman signed 1000, SkyBox says it's DARN RARE. Then perhaps something happened to the other 750-850, coffee stains, misplaced, something cause I do not believe 1000 made it into packs. Skybox is tight fisted with their quantities...they rarely tell how many of soemhing is out there and that frustrates me, but I am resitant to the idea of them out and out lying. And if they were to mislead us, why Berman? I basically got nothing but Ferengi (Quark and Nog). I wish I did just get the Berman cards. It's feasible that someone did find a load and is keeping quiet. CD's don't stuff into pockets very well...;) Secondly, a price index is something I am trying to avoid. I don't think you can just take a list of cards and stick a price next to it. I'm trying to blend a basic price range along with whatever else will help a collector decide how much he wishes to spend on a piece. At first, I was just going to take the checklist form the book , make a new column and rate according to rarity, but it didn't seem to work, at least not the way I wanted.... How do you explain in one scalable column why a card limited to 10,000 is 3 - 4 times more expensive then a card limited to 1000? Or who one limited to 10,000 card is worth $10, but another limited to 10,000 card is worth as much as $500??/!!! Date: 30 Jun 2000 10:56:26 -0400 OK, folks, here it is! Rather then a trivia contest chat on Friday, I have decided upon a different sort of contest....a scavenger hunt! Below are a list of 'items' Search the Internet and send me the URL's (not the actual image) of as many images form the below list. Each item has a value assigned. The person with the most points, wins! (In case of a tie, we will have a sudden death round) An extra 500 points can be earned by discovering the theme behind all the images we selected. NOTE: We do NOT know if there actually will be images of all these items, so it may not be possible to get ALL of them. The point is to get as many as you are able to. Decisions of the judges are final. You can not create an image and stick it out on a site somewhere and 'find' it, we will investigate any suspicious submissions, keep it honest...;) The prize will be an autograph card from SkyBox's new release, due out July 5th! Details to be announced. Submissions are due by July 5th, so get searching....;) NOTE: THE AUTOGRAPH CARD IS BEING DONATED BY SKYBOX. THANKS FOR THEM FOR BEING A GOOD SPORT AND DONATING THIS PRIZE! It has been touted as the BURGER KING set, problem with that theory is that according my buddy, Audrey, they had no license for TMP. I bought an old Card Collecting mag and it boldly proclaims it as being the Burger King set, as of 1992. So, I guess it's CCPG's fault...;) They also had a quote I like and I intend to steal for my price guide...."Don't get me wrong....even Star Trekker's would like to see the cards they'll never sell go up in value." By George, I think that man is one of us...;) Lynne Lynne Stewart http://www.jklm.net/index.html KLM Enterprises, Inc. 2805 Oakcliff Ct Johnson City, TN 37601 Home of the AMOK TIMES NEWSLETTER-Info on Star Trek Cards KLM CARDS-Trek cards and stuff for sale! I seem to remember some mention someplace (maybe some ed of the 'Official' Price Guide) about them being sold in those plastic capsules, but mine came nice and flat.
