  6. Yesterday I found an item on Yahoo I wanted..it had no bids and was due to
  7. close in two days. Since this was going to close after I left on vacation, I
  8. picked a proxy and placed the proxy. To my surprise, the auctionne ended, I
  9. was declared the winner at my proxy price. No one else had bid on this item
  10. up to that point and perhaps wouldn't have) Turns out, and this is what I
  11. didn't know, there was something called a buy price on the item. My proxy
  12. happened to be the buy price, so it sold it to me at the buy price. So, an
  13. item that would have (possibly ) sold to me at 40 pounds if no one else had
  14. bid, sold to me at 50 pounds. S'okay, I guess, but still, money is
  15. money...;) I would have preferred not to pay the extra, so read yer rules,
  16. don't be a dumb blonde...;)

  394. This guy is running an auctionne listing a NM set of the Leaf set, at some
  395. point he discovers it's really the Euro set and adds an addendum way at the
  396. bottom of the page. And yet, people are still bidding! $520. Now, have I
  397. missed something? HAs the Euro set increaed in value when I wasn't looking.
  398. And what about all the hype has has in the start of the ad about his friend
  399. collecting the set when he was 16...yadyada..your thoughts are welcome.

  1384. We've discussed this before..the concept of profit. Let's say I found a true
  1385. Leaf set for $10 (HA!) and sold it for $1500, goody for me! Or I found tons
  1386. of 7 of 9 cards (seems a hot items) and am able to sell them all at a great
  1387. profit, goody for me! But, the idea of selling something KNOWING it's not
  1388. worth anywhere near the value is wrong and dishonorable. Once it gets
  1389. extremely out of synch like this, the seller should step up and stop the
  1390. auctionne. Relist it with only the right information so there is no chance
  1391. of misunderstanding and I guess if at that point if it goes for $810, well,
  1392. party one, at least he did his best. At some point, it is the buyers
  1393. responsibility.
  1394. What I can't figure out is all the yap about how his friend collected the
  1395. set back in the 60's...I mean in light of the new info that's all crap, yes?
  1396. HOWEVER< it brings up an interesting questions. I have a collector who
  1397. approached me about validating a Leaf set she wanted to buy. The collector
  1398. with the set said she'd had the set in her collection since the 70's. There
  1399. seemed to be no desire on anyone's part to be deceptive. The set turned out
  1400. to be the Euro set. I went back to the buyer and pressed for more details
  1401. one when this person acquired the set and there was no further follow up on
  1402. it, but I thought it would have added an interesting dimension to the euro
  1403. set if it had been available much earlier then when they popped up in the
  1404. 90's

  1513. I think that misses the point.  That seller was misrepresenting the actual item.  If he labelled it the Euro reprint set and put a $1000.00 reserve and then people were bidding like they are, there's no prob.  But when a seller says an item is something it's not, there's the fraud.

  1627. wonder if someone ocmpaning about something someone is selling is just sour
  1628. grapes...do bad it wasn't me, that sort of thing. I just felt it needed
  1629. saying that making a profit off osmeone isn't in theory a bad thing, it'show

  1818. understand it correctly, the wholesale price could put the box price at
  1819. about $80. A BOX WITH ONLY 15 PACKS IN IT.
  1820. Those 15 packs will have NO NEW cards in it. The only thing 'new' will be
  1821. the foils (50 or more, I'm not sure) which are still old cards foiled.
  1822. What's worse is you could get packs with ALL COMMONS. You could get one with
  1823. all rares' too, sure, but do you really expect that to happen to often? I'm
  1824. as addicted as the next guy, but I can't find a place for this set in my
  1825. heart and it bothers me enough to consider not even stocking it. How can
  1826. they justify such a huge price for something they don't even have to
  1827. MAKE...they already have the stock set aside for this purpose. They gotta
  1828. foil 'em sure, but the rest is fluff for them.

  2791. I collect both SW and ST CCG. I passed on the SW reflections and I will =
  2792. pass on the ST reflections. The only reason SW sold as much=20
  2793. as it did...depite the high price point, was your ability to pick up =
  2794. limited versions from all the sets. New collectors were the big movers =

  2796. this stuff. You could spend $270 (3 boxes) and have pretty close to all =
  2797. the BB cards from all the expansions. In the packs 1 foil and=20
  2798. the rest "random" cards from ALL the past expansions, 3-4  boxes would put =
  2799. you very close indeed.....and to think how many boxes I=20
  2800. bought over the years. This is why I stopped. I don't do any more SW CCG. =
  2801. T&T will be last ST , and I may not even go for them. I=20
  2802. stopped ST non sports collecting pretty much after season 7....except for =
  2803. the motion...which I now regret. The rehash of pictures in=20
  2804. the sets was getting old. Here's a hint for slybox ...zooming in (or out) =
  2805. or reversing the picture is not a new "never before seen" photo.
  2806. Decipher's SW relflection also had an added advantage. People play =
  2807. it...not just collect it. Players need those non main rares to build
  2808. deck. (frankly ST is a Collectable Card Game and SW is a Customizable Card =
  2809. Game...for proof..when was the last national ST tourney
  2810. in your city??)

  2812. The reflections sets are just reusing old cards....cheap when you think =
  2813. about it.... You take a card that requires no design, effort or cost =
  2814. really besides printing. You then"foil" the card (one of the oldest chase =
  2815. card technologies) , add consumer  *POOF* instant money. Heck you really =
  2816. don't even have to market them.   I have shops here in Tucson that ordered =
  2817. two or three reflections boxes and they sat for weeks on the counters. =
  2818. OHHH...let's not forget the way my collection has dropped in value(not =
  2819. that I would ever sell). Mains=20
  2820. and ships are the only things worth anything anymore. Yes, for a brief =
  2821. time rares were selling quickly, but as there was a large influx,=20
  2822. most rares  sell for $1. (far less than pack price!) I offered a guy 120 =
  2823. rares for $150 on the newsgroups...he scoffed. I don't blame him. I=20
  2824. have stopped SW and ST collecting...but I do still do other non-sports =
  2825. cards. These other sets are one or two shot stuff, lost in space,=20
  2826. Starship troopers, sleepy hollow, Bond etc...I admit the shear volume of =
  2827. chase card subsets for some of these is, well, sucks. I compare=20
  2828. them to the recent ST sets.....not only a lot of subsets but hard to =
  2829. complete. OK, you fellow trekkies (and yeah having watched TOS=20
  2830. on TV in 1960's allows me to use any term I wish and being a trekkie is a =
  2831. badge of honor for me) think about this....

  2833. I buy three boxes of James Bond (pick any set) and I have 90% of the set =
  2834. and enough fodder to complete it and other non sports sets
  2835. (however, I need to trade within the cards set first...I am such a sucker =
  2836. for a fair trade I often trade bond, when I still need bond, for=20
  2837. other non sports I need.) When I talk to Lynne or J!m they are buying =
  2838. cases to finish sets. sets with HTF autos....sets with "gold" stamp
  2839. photos that are the same as silver stamp! Memorial cards (thanks for =
  2840. letting us all share the memory rittenhouse....I have yet to see one)

  2910. gamme. This was the thing that got people into trouble with the BB set. I
  2911. know people with BOXES sitting around. It was marketed as a limited
  2912. edtion...well, define limited....when I worked up the stats on
  2913. theiir print run, it wa amazing, how much they could make and still call it
  2914. limited. People's perception of a trading card led to unnecessary high
  2915. prices for a game card that when the full print rrun is in the market place
  2916. really doesn't hold up. I prioritize CCG stuff really low on my list of
  2917. gotta haves, sold all my BOG foils and won't do reflections. I enjoy their
  2918. cards, but not eough to go wacky!

  2952. need and sell the rest. I am an enabler for their bad practices. I pad their
  2953. pockets and make them release stuff over and over again. I don't complain,

  2955. I want to, if that makes any sense. I don't do anything I don't wanna do. I
  2956. don't collect anything that doesn't suit me and I'm still having fun.

  3019. I think there are alot of people that have similar feelings as chris. I
  3020. too stopped collecting ST CCG right after first contact. I couldn't
  3021. convince myself to purchase another box of ccg cards after that. For me
  3022. it just was too darn expensive. To buy 3 boxes of ccg cards to put 1 set
  3023. together is crazy.

  3032. I stopped collecting ST action Figures soon after the last batch of KB
  3033. toy exclusives came out. I then sold %90-%95 of my action figures and
  3034. toy collection when the time was right. Thank god too. Even playmates
  3035. toys had enough of it. They stopped making them around the same time.

  3495. I don't collect DS9. I neither spent too much on it or pine for it at night,
  3496. so if it turns out to be more common, fine by me. But, I find it odd that
  3497. SkyBox would not only allow such a discrepancy. Steve Dubin, who was the
  3498. Entertainment director after Steve C was the one who got terribly bent when
  3499. he heard that people were selling the Voided cards, claiming them as rare.
  3500. He issued a press release so that people wouldnt get taken. He's the one who
  3501. said it was "the rarest of all Star Trek cards" 1000 wouldn't come close to
  3502. being rare, so why would he say it? Why would Berman sign DOUBLE his
  3503. contract, which was 500)?
  3504. Let's say everyone's telling the truth....Berman signed 1000, SkyBox says
  3505. it's DARN RARE. Then perhaps something happened to the other 750-850, coffee
  3506. stains, misplaced, something cause I do not believe 1000 made it into packs.
  3507. Skybox is tight fisted with their quantities...they rarely tell how many of
  3508. soemhing is out there and that frustrates me, but I am resitant to the idea
  3509. of them out and out lying. And if they were to mislead us, why Berman?

  3597. should have been at least one per 20 box case. I have talked to enough
  3598. people who opened enough cases to be quite confident they were nowhere near
  3599. that common. Maybe there is somebody somewhere who got hundreds of them in
  3600. one case, but I suspect we would have heard about that. It is obvious by the
  3601. number of these offered in auctions that there are not many, though they do
  3602. seem more common than the Data from First ontact.

  3904. I intend for it to be a companion to the Card Collective and therefore not
  3905. repeat all the information, just the basics. Right now, I am doing Title
  3906. Year Company, a brief description (to assist in indetification)A price RANGE
  3907. and then comments that will assist them in deterring prices they wish to pay
  3908. and anything to watch out for in relation to buying (IE look for the white
  3909. gray white sandwich look to the Leaf set) My intent would be to make it
  3910. small enough it can be printed and taken with them and I decided NOT to
  3911. include images. In theory they have the book to look back on as well. What
  3912. else do you think it might need?

  4136. basically got nothing but Ferengi (Quark and Nog).  I wish I did just get 
  4137. the Berman cards.  It's feasible that someone did find a load and is 
  4138. keeping quiet.  To be open about it would mean a big price drop, rather 
  4139. than slowly releasing cards onto the market.

  4286. Well, first of all, I prefer something small and printable, so that you can
  4287. take it with you to shows and stuff. CD's don't stuff into pockets very
  4288. well...;)
  4289. Secondly, a price index is something I am trying to avoid. I don't think you
  4290. can just take a list of cards and stick a price next to it. I'm trying to
  4291. blend a basic price range along with whatever else will help a collector
  4292. decide how much he wishes to spend on a piece. At first, I was just going to
  4293. take the checklist form the book , make a new column and rate according to
  4294. rarity, but it didn't seem to work, at least not the way I wanted....
  4295.  
  4296. How do you explain in one scalable column why a card limited to 10,000 is
  4297. 3 - 4 times more expensive then a card limited to 1000? Or who one limited
  4298. to 10,000 card is worth $10, but another limited to 10,000 card is worth as

  4398. decided upon a different sort of contest....a scavenger hunt! Below are a

  4401. assigned. The person with the most points, wins! (In case of a tie, we will

  4537. One of the minor 'mysteries' of the ST card world is the set of 4 stickers
  4538. released for TMP. It has been touted as the BURGER KING set, problem with
  4539. that theory is that according my buddy, Audrey, they had no license for TMP.
  4540. I bought an old Card Collecting mag and it boldly proclaims it as being the
  4541. Burger King set, as of 1992. So, I guess it's CCPG's fault...;)
  4542. They also had a quote I like and I intend to steal for my price
  4543. guide...."Don't get me wrong....even Star Trekker's would like to see the
  4544. cards they'll never sell go up in value."
