  11. knocking autograph cards. I think there great. But the least skybox
  12. could do is Not redo. ya know what i mean?

  52. Talk about redo - what about the alter ego and crossover cards - didn't we
  53. have cards like these w/ST30 Phase Two, the doppleganger foil and
  54. lenticular cards?!  (the only thing worse thatn the cards were the
  55. playmates figures:  riker - as malcorian; geordi as Tarchanian) ST30 was
  56. not strictly TNG I know, but still we've had ST25, TNG Inaugural, MS I and
  57. II, TNG Seasons One-Seven, Generations, First Contact, Insurrection, ST30.
  58. Do we really need a TNG profiles?  How far off can TOS Profiles be?

  126. So, tell 'em. I mean the biggest mistake we can make is have an opinion and
  127. not tell the people we pay perfectly good money to what we want. (or dont'
  128. want) Make a list of things you would like to see and things you don't.

  247. I wanted to alert everyone to new mutants to the virus ILOVEYOU. If you are
  248. tired of hearing of this topic, I am sorry! I don't usually get into "pass
  249. this on to all your friends" emails, but this has rattled me a bit. One of
  250. the variations,  Mother's Day, implies you have been billed $300 for a gift
  251. and please confirm this attached invoice. Unlike the Love Bug, this one
  252. attacks .bat files and could seriously damage your system. See below. Avoid
  253. all attachments, be safe! Before the notice on the new viruses, I am
  254. restating the free offer I made to my Auctionne group.

  257. Yesterday, I did a stupid thing and opened an attachment that infected me
  258. with the ILOVEYOU virus. For those of you who hadn't heard that virus, among
  259. other things, deletes all JPEGS (images) on the user's hard drive. I lost
  260. over 6000 images scanned over the last several years for the website and
  261. book. I am awaiting James' return tonight to see how old our last backup is
  262. and the contents of the CDROM are safe since the images are part of the
  263. Adobe files and not separate images so not affected, but the loss of the
  264. scans remains a sad loss. I utilized the scans in many other ways as
  265. reference and I regret the loss immensely.
  266. The fault is my own and I want to take this email to tell you a few
  267. things..DON'T OPEN ATTACHMENTS!!! If you get one you aren't expecting, ask
  268. the sender..if they confirm it's validity, fine. This email was sent to me
  269. by Fleer SkyBox (no I didn't think they loved me, but I don't know that I
  270. was thinking of it in those terms :giggle:), but surely not a place I was
  271. expecting a virus from...;) BACK UP YOUR FILES! And not infrequently, as I
  272. did, but OFTEN! This was an avoidable virus..you had to open it..one of
  273. these days, it will be of a sort you can't avoid and I wish noone to be sad
  274. like me. :)

  289. Copycat variants of the "Love Bug" worm labeled "Joke" and "Mother's Day"
  290. infected computers around the world on Friday, a day after the most
  291. widespread cyberattack ever wreaked havoc on business and government
  292. operations. Tens of millions of the computers have been disabled so far as
  293. the worm, first detected in Asia, spread around the globe, forcing network
  294. administrators to shut down email systems at major companies and penetrating
  295. the Pentagon, the Central Intelligence Agency and Britain's Parliament.
  296. Security experts said the worm was far more devastating than last year's
  297. Melissa virus, with losses now counting in the billions from damaged data
  298. and the distractions of fighting the software scourge, and warned that it
  299. could take weeks to stem the invasion. The original virus "ILOVEYOU", which
  300. worked by enticing email recipients to open an attached letter, only to
  301. cripple their email systems. This so-called Love Bug continued to pop up in
  302. email systems on Friday, even as variants appeared to pose new tricks for
  303. computer users. But the effect of the virus is unchanged: Upon opening the
  304. attachment using Microsoft software such as Outlook or Outlook Express, it
  305. sends a copy of the worm to everyone in the user's address book and seeks to
  306. destroy a variety of files throughout a computer network, including picture
  307. and music files. In one version designed to spoil the upcoming "Mother's
  308. Day" holiday that will be celebrated in the United States on May 15, a
  309. variant of LoveLetter sends emails which appear to be a confirmation of an
  310. electronic gift order. "The Mother's Day version of this worm is quite
  311. cunning," said Mikko Hypponen, manager of antivirus research at computer
  312. security firm F-Secure Corp.'s laboratories in Helsinki, Finland. "The email
  313. appears to be a confirmation of an order for 'Mother's Day diamond special,'
  314. and the attached file mothersday.vbs is portrayed as if it were an invoice.
  315. With only eight days to go until Mother's Day, this attack is quite
  316. credible," he said. F-Secure has identified five variants so far in its
  317. efforts to keep pace with the worldwide assault. One scary aspect of the new
  318. variants is that they prey on behavior patterns that most people don't think
  319. twice about. "I think everyone in the world has seen the news about the
  320. "ILOVEYOU" virus. But say your computer has been affected by the virus.

  322. funny,' because you need a laugh. The next thing you know, you're infected

  438. Here's a question for you.....
  439. I bought a case of DS9 MOF, pulled 5 redemption cards (bbbooooo) I knew that
  440. was a chance, though, so I'm not really complaining. Anyway, one of the
  441. redemption cards was the Berman card...(of course!). I do not collect DS9,
  442. but when the set came out, I was interested in the Berman card. I have all
  443. the other producer cards and wanted this one as well. I gave up that wish
  444. when I saw the cost! Cheap, I would justify buying a DS9
  445. card..expensive...not so much...;)
  446. Anyway, here's my dilemma....if the redemption card has little value, I
  447. would keep it, call it 'close enough' to the real thing. If there is enough
  448. interest in it the card, I would sell.
  449. SO, should I list the card with a starting price that is as high as I would
  450. consider selling it for OR list it at whatever...say, $10 starting, (since I
  451. really don't know it's value) and then feel free to bid until it goes past
  452. the point I would stop being interested in it anymore?
  453. I asked when I first started the Auctionne, if it was an ethical issue for
  454. me to bid in my own Auctionne and most people agreed at the time that since
  455. I collect, why shouldn't I be free to bid as long as I wasn't price fixing.
  456. I was curious to know where this fits?

  814. are too many of the same cards.  The worse was in TOS Ann when you got 
  815. exactly the same characters, I mean James Doohan three times over?

  817. Kirk is my favourite character but I may well not bother getting the new 
  818. auto card for reasons stated.  I didn't get the Twilight Zone card but may 
  819. do if the price drops.
  820.  
  821. Overall I cannot imagine many sets of Trek cards which could still be 
  822. produced.  Perhaps the time has come for Skybox to give up and give us all 
  823. a rest.  The only set I would be interested in would be movie profiles.  
  824. The reason for this is because apart from the rather unusual box sets of 
  825. cards, the movies are very under represented.  And there are quite a few 
  826. characters from there whose autos have not yet been produced.

  858. Doohan, there actually was a reason. He was to sign two, but so many had to
  859. be destroyed due to the type of pens they used, they made him sign again in

  1044. unacceptable.  You could easily have been tempted to just put on a few

  1275. Marcus was dead, that's a real shame, she was one of my favourite's from 
  1276. the movies too.  And I agree with you about Jane Wyatt.  The more I think

  1315. I'm afraid if it gets done it will be with 18 lower characters from each
  1316. movie rather then the really high caliber ones and that wouldn't be fun.
  1317. One other thing, I wish we could convince them...auto cards are GREAT. I
  1318. love them, but it is not the be all of a for sure sale set. If the prices of
  1319. the Lenticulars from Voyager CTH don't show that, I'm not sure what will. A
  1320. set doesn't have to have autos to be good, but it DOES need to be new and
  1321. creative.  I would love for Rittenhouse to carry foreword their Memoriam
  1322. cards like they did for DeForest..they could do some for alot of the fallen,
  1323. that would be cool...

  1644. I guarantee I was the collector they had in mind.

  1646. When Subway moved to Altoona, Pa (August, 1994) I started to pick up little
  1647. bits of Altoona's history including picture postcards, postal history and
  1648. other memorabilia of Subway's new home. In five years I have accumulated
  1649. many thousands of postcards, old letters and documents, stereo views,
  1650. pictures, blueprints of the railroad years, collector plates and more.

  1652. Being in the hobby supply business I have every kind and style of album ever
  1653. made. Where is this 'collection' kept? Thats easy - in shoe boxes until I
  1654. find time (when???) to sort it all.

  1656. I purchased a collection of over 1,000 pre-addressed envelopes (to the Lily
  1657. Coal Company, Altoona, Pa USA), all mailed in the 1890's and all franked
  1658. with the 1893 World Colombian issue stamps. This is sorted by city - state
  1659. cancellations. It came that way. If I had to sort it the collection would
  1660. still be in shoe boxes.

  1662. Last month I passed the outer limits of sanity when I purchased a brick
  1663. (yes - a BRICK) because is was embossed 'Altoona B & T Company, Altoona Pa".
  1664. I immediately called Vidiform Company (Showgard) and asked what kind of
  1665. albums they had for bricks. (4 " thick, 4 " wide, 8 " long, 9 lbs). I will
  1666. be the first in line as soon as the new Showgard 'brick' album is ready.
  1667. Since then I have acquired 3 additional 'Altoona' bricks. Anyone out there
  1668. make a brick catalog?

  1670. Today I outdid myself in the brick incident. A local homeowner cleaning out
  1671. his father's estate brought in about 40 bottles of 'Altoona Curve Beer". (Do
  1672. not confuse with the new Altoona Curve baseball team and ballpark that just
  1673. opened and sells beer at the games.) These bottles are about 50-60 years
  1674. old. They are in 2 very dusty "Altoona Curve Beer boxes" and about a third
  1675. of the bottles are sealed with the original beer inside. The homeowner

  2282. I thought about some of those as well. When I was very new at the nets and
  2283. collecting, I learned of two cards of a set of Ingot cards I didn't have...I
  2284. called the company, begged myself into a pair of the two missing cards and
  2285. when I got them, I was as thrilled as if I had pulled a mirror card (I was
  2286. easier to please back then!) Sometimes it's not the rarest card that's cool,
  2287. it's the coolest hunt...;)
