  7. I just rec'd my Promo from Rittenhouse Archives today.  It is really
  8. a nice lenticular card.  My promo contains two scenes from "The
  9. Naked Time"--the top one being Riley looking funny at his hand, and
  10. the bottom one being Sulu lunging in a corridor with his sword. 
  11. Good motion effects.  THe back is plain white with black text giving
  12. the card title ("Star Trek In Motion Promotional Card 1 of 500") and
  13. the usual copyright statements.
  14.  
  15. Are there really only 500 of these promos and I actually rec'd
  16. number ONE?  or are there 500 different promos and this is the first
  17. of them (that would be ALOT of promos to make)?  Or, did they
  18. misprint them all as number 1 of 500?

  87. 500...sorta like the mirror cards...each one is labeled 1 of 200.

  272. They made 500 promo's of each of the 24 different cards in the set. That
  273. mean there are 12,000 promos from this set out there and they all say 1 of
  274. 500 on the back. It means you have one, not that you have the first one
  275. produced.

  311. Got my promo the other day and I'm not at all impressed.  Mine is a sort of
  312. "generic" episode card; top half is Kirk coming down a coridor toward the
  313. camera and the bottom is a bridge scene where everytone is "jerking and
  314. falling to the left" to simulate either bumping into something on the right
  315. or getting shot at from that side<G>.  I don't think the animation is all
  316. that great and the fact that I can't easily identify the episode doesn't
  317. excite me either.

  319. Question: are these promo cards a special size or are they all this large?
  320.  
  321. Finally... even if I were still actively collecting cards, I don't think
  322. I'd bother with these.

  381. They are al that size. SlyBox owns an exclusive liscense to the trading c=
  382. ard
  383. size, no one else is allowed to do it. The binder will come with pages th=
  384. at
  385. will fit the lenticulars and pages for the sound cards, which are thicker
  386. then usual.
  387. THe promo card I got to see first was from Mirror Mirror and showed Kirk
  388. doing a salute and I liked it alot. COurse I have been saying I was biase=
  389. d
  390. all along, lenticualrs and sound cards are my thing, so it was a foregone
  391. conclusion i wold like 'em...:giggle:

  446. Season 6: there was no promo or survey card, but there was a Skymotion card
  447. Season 7: there was no survey card, but there was a regular-sized promo card
  448.  
  449. Also, if someone has an extra season 7 wrapper (preferably one that's
  450. neatly torn or cut open from the back), I need one; I'll pay postage. =

  2202. Tucked among the Depression-era sherbet glasses and aging Sonny and Cher
  2203. albums on Internet auction sites are an amazing array of items - some of
  2204. them illegal, and other simply just cranks.
  2205.  
  2206. Unfortunately for the jokesters and criminals, an online auction is one of
  2207. the least anonymous places to try to pull a fast one.
  2208.  
  2209. "If an investigator calls, we tell them don't bother with a subpoena. We
  2210. give them names, addresses, telephone numbers, credit card numbers, whatever
  2211. we can," said Robert Chesnut, a former federal prosecutor who now works for
  2212. eBay.
  2213.  
  2214. Toy kidneys can be sold, but real ones are illegal. So are babies, child
  2215. pornography and dirty underwear. Clean underwear, however, is legal, Chesnut
  2216. said.
  2217.  
  2218. The company's reporting has led to several fraud prosecutions, and eBay has
  2219. worked with Secret Service agents, postal inspectors, New York Police
  2220. Department detectives and other investigators around the country.
  2221.  
  2222. The world's leading Internet auction site, eBay hosts thousands of
  2223. legitimate auctions daily. It's one of the most popular sites on the
  2224. Internet, with people gathering to bid on assorted items or to chat with
  2225. other members of the personal trading community.

  2227. But eBay's high profile also lends itself to a number of crank proposals,
  2228. which can often generate a few bids before being discovered by eBay
  2229. officials and pulled.

  2231. One recent example: an auction for a young man's virginity. (The seller did
  2232. not respond to an Associated Press e-mail query).
  2233.  
  2234. And earlier this week, more than 75 human kidneys and several babies were
  2235. posted for auction at eBay after one seller's hoax made national news.

  2237. The company has suspended all of the kidney and baby dealers from their
  2238. site, and referred them to law enforcement.

  2240. "Certainly there's room for people to be funny on the Internet, but I think
  2241. people need to exercise good judgment. There are transplant patients waiting
  2242. years for a kidney. To them, this is not a joking matter," said Steve
  2243. Westly, eBay's vice president of marketing.

  2245. Many of the would-be kidney sellers contacted by The Associated Press said
  2246. they were joking. However, Ian Thomas of Pass Christian, Miss., said he
  2247. wasn't kidding when he posted an auction that began: "Health conscious,
  2248. fully functional kidney, 30's male with daily intakes of spring water,
  2249. vitamins and exercise."

  2251. He said the buyer must pay hospital and travel expenses and that the surgery
  2252. must take place in a "top of the line-well known hospital." He also said
  2253. that he would need a written legal agreement because he does not wish to

  2257. take it more seriously, for ultimately it does bring more awareness to this
  2258. whole donor issue."

  2261. said the bizarre and illegal sales are affecting all online auction sites,
  2262. but that internal regulators at each site can keep them from getting out of

  2265. "Both the auction companies and the users themselves take an active role in
  2266. policing their sites," he said. "For the most part, the community tends to
  2267. be very self regulating."

  2269. Earlier this year, eBay banned the sale of guns and ammunition after people
  2270. tried selling a missile, a bazooka, a Russian-made rocket launcher and other
  2271. military weapons.

  2321. I was just wondering how many sets of the newer cards everyone kept.
  2322. With all the autographs, I have accumulated a large number of sets.
  2323. It is taking up quite a lot of room! For example, for season 7 I had 10
  2324. boxes
  2325. and ended up putting together 30 sets. I just threw the extra cards in
  2326. the trash.
  2327. But what am I going to do with 30 sets! You can't sell them - not
  2328. really.
  2329. I give a few away, but not many. I am tempted to keep 10 sets and toss

  2365. thou). I try to keep 2 sets of everything. One in my album and one in a
  2366. card case stashed someware, Just in case.. I average $4 a set and The
  2367. lowest i,v gone on quanity is $1 a set. (Buyer pays shipping) There's
  2368. allways someone out there that wants to spend money. Ya just got to find
  2369. them. That can be the hard part. eBay can be a good place to sell too.
  2370. Depending on how many of each set are up for auction at the time. If
  2371. there are No other like sets for auction your more often than not to be
  2372. able to get someone to bid as high, Or higher that book price.

  2465. :giggle: Throw out a card....the horror....;)
  2466. Though I will say, you do better then ME, since I never sort anything, then
  2467. when I need to sell a set, I gotta sort one real quick...;)
  2468. I have found on the nets, selling sets is hard, really hard. I do pretty
  2469. well off nets through my wrapper ad.

  2471. need to buy sets and with so many dealer opening up cases of product, there
  2472. is little need for sets elsewhere.
  2473. Shame really, still take the sets, box 'em up and send them to a charity
  2474. function or some sort of thing and let them have at it. Write the postage
  2475. off as a tax deduction....;) Give them to the school to use as part of some
  2476. sort of fund raising (I know our school does a silent auctionne once a year)
  2477. Give 'em out as Halloween goodies...;)

  2506. the cost of any containers you use, for example the plastic deck cases, if
  2507. that's what you send them to the Charity in.  If you deliver them in your
  2508. car, instead of mailing them, you can deduct the cost of the gas... for
  2509. charity.

  2547. But seriously, don't throw away cards!  There are people out there trying
  2548. to help poorer traders / collectors who can buy only one box, or even just
  2549. packs, and have to work to put their sets together.  I can think of two:

  2551. a new site by Angel Paytonknight <payton@dbtech.net>.
  2552. I have personally traded with both, donating cards to Angel's site.  You

  2724. with it, that's a good idea as well. Not everyone is psychotic spenders and
  2725. box openers like :AHEM: me, and it's cool to think of felliw collectors in

  3059. Well, I said to J!m and the group that I feel bad about my part in the spat,
  3060. not in how I felt, but that I expressed it. I was uncomfortable speaking to
  3061. him privately, prefering the comfort of the group.
  3062. I feel he has nothing constructive to offer to the group and that his
  3063. departure will not affect the group in any way.
  3064. I also think this is J!m's list, he can add and remove whoever he pleases
  3065. and run it however he pleases. People can chose to be a part of it, leave
  3066. and or form their own chat if they don't like what he's done, but it uses
  3067. HIS ISP and he can run it how he sees fit. I was one who called for his
  3068. removal. I was prepared to leave myself, not willing to be attacked every
  3069. time I opened my mouth. Jim came up with a satisfactory middle ground.
  3070. It isn't required that we agree with everything we say to each other. How
  3071. droll that wold be/ We can and should offer different sides, opinions, I
  3072. don't think it's even wrong to squabble now again. Many of us have been
  3073. friends for three years now and a bicker or two is expected. As long as
  3074. there are some limits in how far we let our squablles go and as long as the
  3075. underlyingtheme is a push towards better he hobby, even if we are taking an

  3574. The problem  I have is being asked to report in on how the transaction went.
  3575. my feeling is that I
  3576. 1, don't know how my feedback is being used
  3577. 2. I am not a member, therefore don't feel I have to opt in by offering
  3578. feedback, let them work amongst themselves. Usually it's someone I don't
  3579. know or recognize off hand when the request comes through and have to dig
  3580. through my deals to find out who the person is and I find myself resentful
  3581. of the time I have to spend, esp since I don't care much for the groups
  3582. concept anyway.
  3583. I know of one proud GAB member that I consider someone who takes advantage
  3584. of people. They may deliver the product as requested, sure, but they enjoy
  3585. ignorance and overcharging. But, they are listed as a good guy....
  3586. I'll trade with most everybody. I'm 'bad' I suppose cause I don't usually do
  3587. reference checks, tend to send stuff out before funds have cleared. I have
  3588. been 'taken advantage' of now and again, but this is like a 0.5% occurrence,
  3589. most everyone is fair and honest!

  3615. bad traders (I guess we just assumed there'd be no prob with a good
  3616. trader's reputation getting around), but it became an administrative
  3617. nightmare.  Our original idea was to be a soret of clearinghouse for all
  3618. complaints of bad deals, bad sales, failed sellers, etc.  Of course, we
  3619. didn't wanna bad mouth someone because of a PO error or because the buyer
  3620. was simply impatient, so it became obvious that we'd have to get both sides
  3621. of a story before branding someone as a "bad guy".  We sorta played it out
  3622. in our heads and realized that by the time we got all sides of the story
  3623. (IF we could get all sides of the story) a true crook could have ripped off
  3624. 300 more victims and the original victim might have sucumbed to old age<G>.

  3628. incomplete (the "bad traders" list) or no more than free advertising (the

  3856. This has happened to me about 4-5 times this year. More times than all
  3857. previous years combined. Its quite anoying. And it's not just first time
  3858. traders either. It all started when skybox started to mass produce
  3859. autograph cards. They seem to be harder to trade. People arnt sure they
  3860. want to trade. Or there weighing there posibilitys with more than one
  3861. person at a time. It really sucks! I can go 1 or 2 emails and have cards
  3862. in the mail the next morning.

  3864. Like lynne said it is a bit one sided. Are these people bad traders?
  3865. Hmmm.... I,d say not. There just inexperianced and or confused. Example:
  3866. I had one guy email me last week about tradeing a few autograph cards.
  3867. Totaling About $100 each. This is this persons first trade on the net.
  3868. He has NO refrences and had some reservations about taking the first
  3869. step. To make things more complicated he's useing a friends computer and
  3870. email address. After going back and forth for a few days I decided to
  3871. calm his fears by making a PHONE Call. I emailed him my phone number and
  3872. told him to call me.. 10 minuets later we had a deal and the cards
  3873. arrived 3 days later. You can find out more about a person by actually
  3874. talking to them for a few minuets than going back and forth with emails
  3875. for a week. It's amazing.
  3876.  
  3877. Here's a tip for first time traders. If it too good to be true, THEN IT
  3878. IS! Dont trade with them. Move on. I,v done this (useing my better
  3879. judgment) about 5 times this year. Again, More than any previous year.

  4100. My reaction is more mixed. The cards are nicely done, except a number seemed
  4101. dark. I like the backs very much. I greatly prefer normal-sized cards, rather
  4102. than cards as big as these, but for big cards they are very good.

  4104. Very mixed feelings about the surprise. It is nicely done, but why do 3 of them?
  4105. I know we are not all completists, but some of use are. I cannot understand why
  4106. they would want to make absolutely certain that more than half the people who
  4107. spend hundreds of dollars for the common set and all the sound cards will still
  4108. never be able to have a complete set, even assuming they can afford the insane
  4109. price these 3 cards will undoubtedly command? [For those of you who do not know
  4110. what I am talking about, I will not spoil the surprise completely, but suffice
  4111. it to say there are 3 of them and only 500 of each.)

  4113. As for the sound cards, I was quite surprised at how thick they are. I was a bit
  4114. disappointed that the images duplicated cards from the common set. The end
  4115. result is an awfully thick album for one card set that covers less than half a
  4116. season of TOS. At this rate, it they do all of TOS and I continue buying them,
  4117. it will require an awful lot of shelf space. The sound bites are great, but they
  4118. seem too easily triggered. If I start leafing through the album, I can end up
  4119. triggering several cards simultaneously, unintentionally. Cute the first time,
  4120. but gets old quickly. If it were up to me, I would say the sound was a fine
  4121. idea, but should not necessarily be repeated in all subsequent sets.

  4147. expected better quality on the sound cards. There easily crushed. I
  4148. wouldnt want to handle them for too long. They should of made them
  4149. entirely out of some kind of plastic. The sound reminded me of a
  4150. teletuby at first. Ya Cant understand a word there saying. Unless you
  4151. read along. Of cource i had to take one apart to see ow it works. Lets
  4152. see, 4 batterys each x 8 diffrent cards = 32 batterys! Wow! How much are
  4153. batterys and how long do they last? 5-6 years tops? Do you, Should you
  4154. remove them for storage for any lengh of time? Whats the 3 pin plug for?

  4283. about the others...GOne with the Wind, Abbott and Costello and they were all
  4284. done the same way, by the same company, I bet! My wish was that the iamges
  4285. could have been different Cost was the biggest factor in that deciion, maybe
  4286. if it sells well, the next one can be with different images!

  4354. well...I thought some of them were very cute....
  4355. I did not get a kelly card (in two boxes) so I can't
  4356. comment on those.

  4358. the base set. some of the motion is pretty chunky, with the
  4359. thickness of the cards I thought they could have had smoother
  4360. motion (if you equate thickness to the number of facets).
  4361. The backs are very good. I will assume based on the number
  4362. of episodes covered there will be at least 6 releases...
  4363. at $70 a box..I will prob not buy more than a box or maybe
  4364. just a set of each release in the future and forego the chase
  4365. cards...I hope this accounts for the binder thickness...
  4366. very good collation 4 sets of commons and 8 cards short of
  4367. a fifth in two boxes...I was very pleased about that. Of course
  4368. I am never very luck at chase cards so no kelley card so no
  4369. input there...and by golly...I like a check list card...or
  4370. maybe a survey card in the first release...no luck, I hate
  4371. using the binder back as a check list.

  4373. the sound cards...well...I would have liked to see new images
  4374. not duplicates of the regular cards. They do  go off darn easy....
  4375. my advice...put them in the binder last... I also found it helped
  4376. to insert a punched cardboard divider...cuts down on the cards
  4377. going off when a friend was looking at the cards in binder...
  4378. the sound on most is clear and loud enough. I like them.
  4379. but I wonder...as big as that back thing is...could we not have
  4380. had the thing say 2-3 things??
