  23. First off, Cindi Rinehart said yesterday that Joseph Phillips who
  24. plays Justus on GH is being replaced by Monti Sharp.  I'm kinda bummed
  25. - - I like Joseph Phillips - when they actually give him something to
  26. do, he's a great actor.  Oh well...  Also, they just said they're
  27. bringing Brenda's mother on in August - I didn't catch the name of the
  28. actress though.

  30. Yesterday's GH - that scene where Brenda runs up to Jax was really
  31. powerful - I'm always impressed when a scene with no dialogue is that
  32. powerful.

  34. Ned - I wish they would let him be cute and loveable more often - he's
  35. sooo yummy when he's like he was with Emily yesterday and today!!!  He
  36. absolutely sparkles! I know that sounds ridiculous, but it's true -
  37. it's not just his eyes, it's him.

  39. Emily - isn't she under 18???  Wouldn't she need a parents signature
  40. to do all this??

  42. Alan - sigh...what is there to say...except, "Enough Already!!!"

  44. Dara & Taggart - I don't buy it.  He's been absolutely offensive and
  45. all of a sudden they're on a date?  Why do soaps insist on showing
  46. women falling for abusive men?  In case the writers don't know it,
  47. being in a emotionally/verbally abusive relationship is no better than
  48. being in a physically abusive one.  To show a woman going out with a
  49. guy who has been so offensive and physically intimidating to her is
  50. just wrong.  Fear does not equal attraction.

  95. I have an interesting personal sidenote. I was ignorant to the fact that 
  96. hydrocodone is a real pharmaceutical, on so many soaps they make up 
  97. names for drugs, for whatever reason. After getting my wisdom teeth 
  98. removed today, I was in pain, and reached for my pill bottle and 
  99. there it was - Hydrocodone. Through the pain, I had to laugh! Couldn't 
  100. help but think of Alan. (By the way, they work wonders. I hope I don't 
  101. start taking on his characteristics!)
  102. Anyway, I know those of you who work in medicine must think I just fell 
  103. off the turnip truck...bear with me, I'm not myself today - LOL!

  139.     Ok, I'm sorry in advance here, but this is a real soapbox issue
  140. for me.  :)  I realize you were joking, but even so, I just want to
  141. pass along a little info for you.  As long as you take the Hydrocodone
  142. in the manner in which it was prescribed and you stop taking it when
  143. your pain stops, you will not have a problem.  
  144.  
  145.     The way in which people get into trouble with painkillers is when
  146. they stray from this - in other words, while taking the pills for
  147. their pain, a patient discovers they sleep better or they like the
  148. "floating" or "high" feeling they get.  So, their pain ends, but they
  149. have some pills left, and it's been a rough day and they want some
  150. help sleeping...so they take one...a few days later they're feeling a
  151. little down and have a dinner to go to and could use a boost, so they
  152. take one...etc.  That is how you develop an addiction.  
  153.  
  154.     On the other hand, a person who is truly in pain, taking pain
  155. medication for that pain strictly as they are told to, may eventually
  156. become "physically dependant", which is different than addiction.  All
  157. this means is that they will have to taper slowly off their medication
  158. - - the same thing happens with many other medications that aren't for
  159. pain.  There is a very distinct difference between physical dependance
  160. and addiction.  Soap opera writers don't know the difference, and they
  161. do not portray a person becoming addicted properly. 
  162.  
  163.     On my own personal note, I am 29, homebound and disabled thanks to
  164. my illnesses that leave me in constant chronic pain.  I have not had a
  165. pain free minute for 4 1/2 years now.  It took over three years of
  166. suffering before a doctor would treat my pain with narcotic
  167. medications, not because they didn't feel I needed them - every doctor
  168. I saw said I needed them, none of them wanted the risks of prescribing
  169. an addictive medication.  The way TV, especially soaps, portrays
  170. addiction is one of many little pieces of the problem, so watching
  171. these storylines makes me a little crazy.  
  172.  
  173.     Again, I really do know you were only joking, but anytime the
  174. opportunity presents itself to teach people the facts of pain
  175. medication and addiction, I try to take it.  I hope I haven't broken
  176. any list rules by doing so - it really is because of the way GH has
  177. been written this last year that brought it up...   :)

  224. I do wish they'd play up the father/daughter parallels
  225. while Alan is sliding downhill.  They remember to mention
  226. Ned's daughter every once in a while, but I think they
  227. could do some interesting work with Ned and Em's
  228. relationship.  I find it hard to believe, for example, that
  229. Ned would have just sat back down on the couch today,
  230. rather than going outside to find Emily.

  285. this list! LOL!!  Actually, until the last week or so, I was a T&T fan
  286. myself, as I felt they were both people who could learn from each
  287. other and help each other to become more of a whole person, but I
  288. agree - these last few days especially have been horrendous.  Up till
  289. now, I could always see how they could turn it around for Todd, now
  290. they're going too far.  I think I give T&T more leeway in this the
  291. abuse regard because of how they fell in love - sort of in spite of
  292. themselves and with some meausure of true caring in there between all
  293. the pain.  It's different from Dara and Taggart, as he's never shown
  294. kindness towards her - only leering and rudeness.

  337. Hi everyone. I'm a new member to this list, and have just s*bscribe to 
  338. both kevin-and-lucy and port-charles. Looks like fun! Just some brief

  341. I never watched any soaps until I saw the 2 hour premiere of Port Charles
  342. . I was HOOKED, especially to Kevin, Lucy, and Scott (and the ever-adorable
  343. Serena, of course). I have been an addict ever since. I read up on the
  344. K/L/S history, so even tho I didn't watch GH, I'm familliar with the old
  345. plot lines. I've since tuned in to some GH, but my heart belongs to PC.

  347. Anyway, I'm glad to be here! I'll probably be sending out some fanfiction
  348.  in the very near future, okay? Oh, can the fanfics be done in "Part 1", 
  349. "Part 2", etc.? The 2 PC fics I have now are incomplete, but I'd still 
  350. like to share them and get some feedback.

  399. Yup.  I see the parallels between Kevin and Lucy there,
  400. actually.  Kevin needed Lucy to get past his many traumas,
  401. Lucy needed someone to support her in spite of her crazy
  402. schemes and accept her as more than just a bed mate.  The
  403. parallels with Todd and Tea aren't exact, of course, but I
  404. can see the kernel of conflict which makes me love K&L in
  405. T&T too.  But lately... <shudder>

  410. I remember that on our set visit, Real Andrews did admit
  411. that Dara should have slapped Taggart silly <g>.  Despite
  412. Real's magnetism, I think Taggart was more interesting with
  413. Sonny (and by extension, is more interesting these days
  414. with Jason)--he had a history that was interesting but not
  415. completely fleshed-out, and he had a *reason* for being the
  416. way he was around Sonny.  To be honest, I could almost see
  417. Dara going out with Taggart at least once just to spite
  418. Justus, and *then* being intrigued, but I was surprised
  419. that the date with Taggart was already fixed when she
  420. talked to Justus.

  534. in if I miss anything!  The board met and discussed Chris's dirty
  535. deed...took away his Quartermaine residency and he has to return the
  536. $$$ by end of business tomorrow.  They did not say what happens to the
  537. residency now.  Mac stopped in to tell Lucy & Kevin if they want to
  538. postpone the wedding that they could, till Serena could participate. 
  539. They agreed, reluctantly.  Later, when they told Serena, she told them
  540. not to delay as she would be better then.  They gave in - the wedding
  541. is still set for the 17th.  They took Serena's bandages off, and she
  542. can't see. (big surprise, right?)  Frank brought Lark in to do her
  543. volunteer work.  Later, he came back and gave Eve Lark's backpack,
  544. saying it was left in the car.  This was in front of Julie.  Later,
  545. Matt went into the resident's lounge and found Lark hiding behind the
  546. door.  She showed him a note she found in her backpack that said "You
  547. die next."  That's all I remember!  Hope it helps!

  657. I think the attraction is the "rebel" syndrome! I happen to just LOVE
  658. anytime Taggart & Dara are on. IMHO, ONLY, I don't think Dara & Justus had
  659. any chemistry...AT ALL! And I'm loving them explore more about Taggart. I
