Subject: GH/PC: Random thoughts/info....
Hi all...
First off, Cindi Rinehart said yesterday that Joseph Phillips who
plays Justus on GH is being replaced by Monti Sharp. I'm kinda bummed
- - I like Joseph Phillips - when they actually give him something to
do, he's a great actor. Oh well... Also, they just said they're
bringing Brenda's mother on in August - I didn't catch the name of the
actress though.
Yesterday's GH - that scene where Brenda runs up to Jax was really
powerful - I'm always impressed when a scene with no dialogue is that
powerful.
Ned - I wish they would let him be cute and loveable more often - he's
sooo yummy when he's like he was with Emily yesterday and today!!! He
absolutely sparkles! I know that sounds ridiculous, but it's true -
it's not just his eyes, it's him.
Emily - isn't she under 18??? Wouldn't she need a parents signature
to do all this??
Alan - sigh...what is there to say...except, "Enough Already!!!"
Dara & Taggart - I don't buy it. He's been absolutely offensive and
all of a sudden they're on a date? Why do soaps insist on showing
women falling for abusive men? In case the writers don't know it,
being in a emotionally/verbally abusive relationship is no better than
being in a physically abusive one. To show a woman going out with a
guy who has been so offensive and physically intimidating to her is
just wrong. Fear does not equal attraction.
I'll close with a perfectly wonderful scene...Kevin and Serena
today...sooooooo cute!!!!!

Who's Monti Sharp? What roles has he played before?

Yippee!! That should perk up that stagnating Brenda/Jax story, I hope.

Yes!
I have an interesting personal sidenote. I was ignorant to the fact that
hydrocodone is a real pharmaceutical, on so many soaps they make up
names for drugs, for whatever reason. After getting my wisdom teeth
removed today, I was in pain, and reached for my pill bottle and
there it was - Hydrocodone. Through the pain, I had to laugh! Couldn't
help but think of Alan. (By the way, they work wonders. I hope I don't
start taking on his characteristics!)
Anyway, I know those of you who work in medicine must think I just fell
off the turnip truck...bear with me, I'm not myself today - LOL!

I know they said he'd been on a different network's soap, but I
don't remember which...sorry!

Yeah, it should be an interesting dynamic, especially if they bring
Julia back again for a bit...

Ok, I'm sorry in advance here, but this is a real soapbox issue
for me. :) I realize you were joking, but even so, I just want to
pass along a little info for you. As long as you take the Hydrocodone
in the manner in which it was prescribed and you stop taking it when
your pain stops, you will not have a problem.
The way in which people get into trouble with painkillers is when
they stray from this - in other words, while taking the pills for
their pain, a patient discovers they sleep better or they like the
"floating" or "high" feeling they get. So, their pain ends, but they
have some pills left, and it's been a rough day and they want some
help sleeping...so they take one...a few days later they're feeling a
little down and have a dinner to go to and could use a boost, so they
take one...etc. That is how you develop an addiction.
On the other hand, a person who is truly in pain, taking pain
medication for that pain strictly as they are told to, may eventually
become "physically dependant", which is different than addiction. All
this means is that they will have to taper slowly off their medication
- - the same thing happens with many other medications that aren't for
pain. There is a very distinct difference between physical dependance
and addiction. Soap opera writers don't know the difference, and they
do not portray a person becoming addicted properly.
On my own personal note, I am 29, homebound and disabled thanks to
my illnesses that leave me in constant chronic pain. I have not had a
pain free minute for 4 1/2 years now. It took over three years of
suffering before a doctor would treat my pain with narcotic
medications, not because they didn't feel I needed them - every doctor
I saw said I needed them, none of them wanted the risks of prescribing
an addictive medication. The way TV, especially soaps, portrays
addiction is one of many little pieces of the problem, so watching
these storylines makes me a little crazy.
Again, I really do know you were only joking, but anytime the
opportunity presents itself to teach people the facts of pain
medication and addiction, I try to take it. I hope I haven't broken
any list rules by doing so - it really is because of the way GH has
been written this last year that brought it up... :)

I do wish they'd play up the father/daughter parallels
while Alan is sliding downhill. They remember to mention
Ned's daughter every once in a while, but I think they
could do some interesting work with Ned and Em's
relationship. I find it hard to believe, for example, that
Ned would have just sat back down on the couch today,
rather than going outside to find Emily.

You'd think so.

Actually, I'm enjoying the denial phase. I got really
tired of waiting for the Q's to clue in, but now that they
finally have, I'm far more interested.

Try being a OLTL Todd and Tea fan, Geri. I'm about ready
to throw up, given the direction they've taken that
relationship. Ick.
I haven't caught PC lately--have they changed the credits
yet, now that they've killed off both Danielle and Jake?

Oh my! I've always been afraid to mention my other ABC soaps on
this list! LOL!! Actually, until the last week or so, I was a T&T fan
myself, as I felt they were both people who could learn from each
other and help each other to become more of a whole person, but I
agree - these last few days especially have been horrendous. Up till
now, I could always see how they could turn it around for Todd, now
they're going too far. I think I give T&T more leeway in this the
abuse regard because of how they fell in love - sort of in spite of
themselves and with some meausure of true caring in there between all
the pain. It's different from Dara and Taggart, as he's never shown
kindness towards her - only leering and rudeness.
Then of course there's Adam and Liza on AMC too...lol...Heck, being
homebound, I watch all the ABC soaps, not just GH & PC...you don't
want to open that door! :) How come you don't have a mailing list for
the other soaps? I'd join!

Hi everyone. I'm a new member to this list, and have just s*bscribe to
both kevin-and-lucy and port-charles. Looks like fun! Just some brief
background on moi-
I never watched any soaps until I saw the 2 hour premiere of Port Charles
. I was HOOKED, especially to Kevin, Lucy, and Scott (and the ever-adorable
Serena, of course). I have been an addict ever since. I read up on the
K/L/S history, so even tho I didn't watch GH, I'm familliar with the old
plot lines. I've since tuned in to some GH, but my heart belongs to PC.
Anyway, I'm glad to be here! I'll probably be sending out some fanfiction
in the very near future, okay? Oh, can the fanfics be done in "Part 1",
"Part 2", etc.? The 2 PC fics I have now are incomplete, but I'd still
like to share them and get some feedback.
Gosh, I sure do ramble on! Sorry bout that. Heck, my favorite character
is Lucy, and she caught my eye because she talks like I do, which can tire
people out after awhile. =3DD
Peace,
~Laura~

It's absolutely fine to mention other ABC soaps, as long
it's in relation to some aspect of GH and PC as well. For
example...
>I was a T&T fan myself, as I felt they were both people
>who could learn from each other and help each other to
>become more of a whole person,
Yup. I see the parallels between Kevin and Lucy there,
actually. Kevin needed Lucy to get past his many traumas,
Lucy needed someone to support her in spite of her crazy
schemes and accept her as more than just a bed mate. The
parallels with Todd and Tea aren't exact, of course, but I
can see the kernel of conflict which makes me love K&L in
T&T too. But lately... <shudder>
>It's different from Dara and Taggart, as he's never shown
>kindness towards her - only leering and rudeness.
I remember that on our set visit, Real Andrews did admit
that Dara should have slapped Taggart silly <g>. Despite
Real's magnetism, I think Taggart was more interesting with
Sonny (and by extension, is more interesting these days
with Jason)--he had a history that was interesting but not
completely fleshed-out, and he had a *reason* for being the
way he was around Sonny. To be honest, I could almost see
Dara going out with Taggart at least once just to spite
Justus, and *then* being intrigued, but I was surprised
that the date with Taggart was already fixed when she
talked to Justus.
>How come you don't have a mailing list for the other soaps?
Because Taiyin doesn't watch them <g>. But if OLTL
continues its trend of hiring ex-Another World actors and
manages to snag Charles Keating (wouldn't that be lovely!),
even she might start!

Thank you for expressing my personal pet peeve. I wince at the thought
of Dara with this most chauvinistic, nasty character. Taggert is nothing
more than an abusive harrassing
jerk. I'm sickened by this storyline

According to the credits yesterday, it was supposed to be on at 10:30 today
instead of 11, at least in Southern CA. I haven't watched yet, so I can't

Well, I'll try to help, but may not remember everything - someone jump
in if I miss anything! The board met and discussed Chris's dirty
deed...took away his Quartermaine residency and he has to return the
$$$ by end of business tomorrow. They did not say what happens to the
residency now. Mac stopped in to tell Lucy & Kevin if they want to
postpone the wedding that they could, till Serena could participate.
They agreed, reluctantly. Later, when they told Serena, she told them
not to delay as she would be better then. They gave in - the wedding
is still set for the 17th. They took Serena's bandages off, and she
can't see. (big surprise, right?) Frank brought Lark in to do her
volunteer work. Later, he came back and gave Eve Lark's backpack,
saying it was left in the car. This was in front of Julie. Later,
Matt went into the resident's lounge and found Lark hiding behind the
door. She showed him a note she found in her backpack that said "You
die next." That's all I remember! Hope it helps!

anytime Taggart & Dara are on. IMHO, ONLY, I don't think Dara & Justus had
any chemistry...AT ALL! And I'm loving them explore more about Taggart. I
have this strange feeling, there's a bit more to that story that he told

Sorry, hope I didn't break any rules, just trying to mix the apples w/the
