Subject: Re: (police) Sting the wrestler/LA concert?

<<On a more serious note, any word on copies of the LA show live CD that list
members are willing to share, copy via CD-R, or not charge some exorbitant
price for? Please please please let me know!!! thanks.>>
Nini, I'm not sure if anyone offered, but you are right here. The copies that are on eBay are horrible. One is over $100!!! It's not even a whole show. In fact, not even close to a whole show. You probably would be better to find someone who trades CD's. Some people do have one of the LA shows on CD. I have one show, but I can't copy it on CD. Only on cassette.
Your also right about Sting the wrestler. He needs to change his name. A good portion of the auctions on eBay would be gone. It's tough going through 1100-1200 auctions everyday, just to find that Sting find!!

<<For those who are interested (and, boy, this is sure to spark some debate!),
Vinnie Colaiuta was 3RD... Stewart Copeland was 5TH (beat Ringo Starr, but
then, who didn't?!!)...Omar Hakim was 25TH and Manu Katche was 41ST. This was
voted for by the readers of the magazine by the way.>>
Oh my!! Manu get's no respect!! I never really heard much about him before Sting. With this tour, he should get noticed alot more. Until I saw him live, I didn't really respect him too much. But now!! WOW!! And watching the LA show over and over, he is EXCELLENT!!!
Another note here. Vinnie and Stewart are Americans!! God Bless America!! LOL!!
Speaking of Stewart. VH-1 is replaying the List tonight at 7. Yeah baby!!

Yes I as well would like to know the top 2. Stewart definitly deserves #5. And where are Neil Peart and Keith Moon in the list? As for the Manu bashers, personally I thought he carried the show with some pizazz. Especially in FILL HER UP, he rocked the stage with the finale of that song, and I was convinced that was Vinne in the cd version. (Btw, who in the hell plays what drum parts on the album?) Oh well personal maybe I'm just not that picky with drummers ::shrug::

First for all the critics toward Manu, yea he probably is playing more generic then Vinnie or Omar, but more then likely to Sting's asking, since quite frankly, it is HIS band. And once again, I have to say that his playing of the gospal finale in the FILL HER UP in concert simply blew my mind just like on the cd (btw is that 7/8 time?) Personally, I've always admired Manu not so much for his drumming but for his other percussion instrument playing, like in the Nothing Like The Sun songs (STRAIGHT TO MY HEART for example) and also in all of the Peter Gabriel songs.
Second, drummers DO add their own style to the song, just like Stewart did in the live versions of MESSEGE IN A BOTTLE (his drumming is the main reason I think the live version is a whole other song). Also for any WHO fans on the list, if one listens to any of the demos Pete Townsend would have of the songs, then listen to the final versions, you will see a world of difference in the drumming between Townsend's demos and Keith Moon's! (Another extraordinary drummer if U ask me).
I did want to ask one question, I have been reading many people's favorite drummers that weren't on the list, and while this person is on the list, I'm still surprised nevertheless why in the world no one has praised the brilliance of Neil Peart!!!!
Just my opinion, while I'm not a drummer, one of my best friends is and we both were in marching band back in high school. So I do know musicality fairly well.

Hey I'm Blonde and like beer - so there is bound to be short term memory loss there!!!
Yes quite right my mistake, he has never played in Aus. I have seen Manu play with Sting, in LA, the evening after I saw Crowded House play at either Long Beach or the Roxy. Too many beers and too long ago!
The drummer I was thinking of around that time was Jean Paul Ceccarelli. The reason I was confused with Manu was Sting had Mino Cinrlu playing percussion.

You must be thinking of someone else because Manu
Katche has never played with Sting in Australia.
I hear no one talking about Carter Beauford of the
Dave Matthews Band, now he is an incredible drummer!
There was some discussion on the list about this, if he would perform at the Grammy awards. Most people seemed to think he wouldn't because of his tour in Europe. But I'm looking at his schedule and he has 6 days between
Bremen, Germany and San Remo, Italy, almost like he planned for this. lol Anyway, I'll be happy to see him, even if he is singing BND yet again. Maybe he'll present an award, too.

a short review of the concert yesterday in Bremen!
Sting started at 8:15 and was in great mood with a great voice!
But this time Jason Rebello had all the views on him because
he was wearing a black long hair wig and black sun-glasses, looking
like the young Prince, very cool! Sting and the whole band had a lot of smiles for him.
Setlist was the same but Sting surprised us with two lines of Mack the knife in German in the beginning of MOBS (GREAT!!!), after that he gives us a very cool and diverse version of MOBS ( with his Armstrong-voice etc..)!!!
I think his voice is back, completely and yesterday he showed us what he can!
Many songs had small variations ( maybe recognized only by the crazy people doing
a few concerts more !?) but the audience was very euphoric!
Best songs ( very subjective!) Tomorrow we'll se ( wonderful end)! All this time ( with
a very sweet singing melody in the beginning) and Desert rose ( very powerful voice, for me the best version, I've seen on stage, yet ...without Cheb Mami!!! )
.....back to Jason Rebello who had a lot fun with his hair on that evening, playing the flashy rockstar! During his BOTN solo he threw his wig away and everybody was laughing again!
Again a wonderful and funny concert was over!
Cheers,
Jutta

I just saw Sting & Trudie being interviewed on "Live at the grammy's" pre
show, and he said he had won one already. It is probably a minor one, as
it was a pre show annoncment. Trudie said she was excited because she got
to see Ricky Martin.

Thanks Barry!!! The excitement of last night was just too much for some of us. People wanted to know exactly what was going on. I sure gave it a play by play!! I'm still screaming today. I'm so proud of Sting.
