Well, I certainly figured it out afterwards! It was irritating. I caught ELTSDIM also, but like you, wasn't able to record it. This entire thing must have been last minute. My local newspaper made no mention of Sting being on NBC.
I heard the exact same songs as you. (although I missed EBYT) But I'm curious about something....after BND was over and Sting said "Happy New Year", I heard Auld Lang Syne being played. Was this Sting and the band? I could have sworn I heard Chris Botti's playing.
Have to agree with you about the crowd. I didn't see anybody looking like they cared that they were there. What a bunch of fuddy-duddies!

You know, I bet you're right. Although, why somebody would pay that much money to see Sting, then sit there like tree stumps, is beyond me. Did you see how small that place was? Like having him in your living room! Gawd!

<<Did you catch the uptight music critic who almost backhanded Andy?>>
That critic had all three of his picks in the final audience vote. I don't think I have ever seen that before!! David Adelson is pretty good in his reports on E!. He also did the Sting in Vietnam special. He tries to bring humor into the music reports.
I've seen just about every List. It's very cool and funny. If you can catch it in your area, do!!
Now Sting has to do it!! I see Sting being a mix of Stewart and Andy. He would be the best of the three of them. Let's pray people!! Maybe next time Sting is in LA, he'll do it.

I agree Maggie. Sting probably will not appear at all on the Grammy's. He will be in the middle of a European tour. He may accept his award or awards (hehe) on video. Sometimes that happens when an artist can't make it to the show. I hope Sting wins both awards. He really deserves it!!

<<That would be the Conan O'Brien show. Conan asked Sting if certain songs
or types of music bring him to tears. He wittily replied Backstreet
Boys, and later added that Britney makes him moan.>>
That's right!! I was trying to remember when he said that about the Backstreet Boys. The question is, will the Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears be around in 20 years? Probably not!! These young acts won't be around like Sting has been.

Subject: (police) Marilu and Sting, Sitting In A Tree... K-I-S-S-I-N-G!

I'm watching this *very* show at the moment; threw on the
videotape of the Tonight Show. Marilu, as thrilled as she appeared to
be, made
somewhat of an ass of herself. Sting was definitely embarrassed.
This *is* a classic Tonight Show appearance! The audience was getting
on Marilu's case a bit, but what they were yelling at her is
inaudible. The expressions on Marilu's face confirm that the audience
comments were not the nicest. Howver, some interesting quotes from
the show were....
Jay Leno: (during his lead-in for Marilu's appearance) "Besides being
a good friend, my next guest is a very talented actress who's been
successful in television, motion pictures, and theater....(looks
toward Sting) she's also known to go four, five hours herself...
(Sting grimaces uncomfortably)
Marilu: (gasping and clutching herself) I..LOVE you! I'm like the
coolest person in the world, and I'm such a geeked out fan of
yours...I could tell you Sting trivia. July 29th, 1981, the first
time I put a Walkman on, I heard "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da", okay?
Nov. 17th, 1985 I saw BRING ON THE NIGHT. March 21st, 1988, I saw you
at the Forum. *That* was a religious experience. I'm taking his cup
(referring to Sting's Tonight Show cup he was drinking from); I'm
taking things
from your dressing room, and anything that has *both* of our names on
it...is mine! *And*, my husband said, "We'll take the million!"
(Referring to the film, INDECENT PROPOSAL. I just noticed for the
first time during this revisit to the show that Sting was aware of the
film...he murmurs the title to himself. Sting is *all* redfaced!).
Marilu mistakenly calls NLTS, Nothing BUT The Sun, when she
comments on how she'd eat it. She also had a real hard on for Sting's
wrists and forearms, which he revealed to her by pulling up the
sleeves of that ridiculous blousey white shirt he wore on the show.:-)
> As one of the characters on Friends said "In a perfect world, all men > would look like Sting".
Was that Ross or Joey who said that? :-o
Sting was a good sport on the Tonight Show, but I bet he
regretted the experience later on. I'm staring at the playback and,
for the life of me, I can't determine whether the seeming discomfort
and somewhat condescending smile is an act or his "honest" expression.
Thanks for the flashback motivation. Putting the VHS away now.

I'm at work, on the phone with an insurance company. I'm on hold waiting for a representative to answer the phone and Message is playing!! YEAH!! Usually, it's classical or elevator music. That was my excitement for the day!! LOL!!

I was in Eckerd's, a local drugstore, a few minutes ago and heard Shape Of My Heart. I was on my way out when it started playing, so naturally, I had to do some browsing until it was over. I'm sure I look like a total idiot when I hear Sting or the Police in a public place....grinning from ear to ear and singing under my breath. People probably think I suffer from delusion! Okay, that was corny.
Somebody explain to me why I get so giddy when I hear Sting/the Police played outside of my home.
