Subject: (police) Mentioning God (was Desert Rose)

Hi.
I don't know how successful many of Sting's songs were in the USA - I've only lived here for about 8 months - but what was the score with things like "All This Time" (...father if Jesus exists...); or "Why Should I Cry For You" (...over a godless sea...)? Were these flops too?

I have a "studio" recording of Sting singing Strange Fruit on an Amnesty
International Benefit CD from years ago. I also have the Gil Evans
recording but frankly I prefer this one.
I have no where to put it for download right now, but I could make an mp3
out of it and send it to someone who does.
Let me know...

This is recordings of Sting playing with the Gil Evans orchestra at a Jazz fest in Italy, the last time that they played together. Long versions of a couple of Police tunes, some Evans-arranged Hendrix, and a couple of tunes from a session that Evans did in '76. It is all pretty good stuff. I love this album.
> Living sea is pretty neat. No outstanding gems here, though. Edits of a couple of Soul Cages tunes (I don't have a track list here) as well as some insturmental stuff that he wrote. It's good background music, ar for quiet listening.

So, does anyone on this list have any idea what the US branch of Sting's management are playing at? I have been led to believe that they will NOT be releasing Brand New Day as a single over here. Does this mean that they are going to release the album with no lead-off single? Or will they push back the US release date until after the (predicted) release of Desert Rose in October?
What a nightmare! I've been waiting for this day for weeks, only to be confronted with this horrible news.

It might not be much consolation for us U.S. fans, but we *can* make sure the single gets a lot of airplay in the UK. Let's support our man in the few ways the record company will let us.
Go to http://www.virginradio.com/music/home.html
Under the "Playlist" section, you can vote for your favourite song... top of the list is Brand New Day. Let's keep it that way, yeah?

Hm, very good question, I'd also be interested in knowing if anyone has
any info. :)

Hello,
It should be in the 8:30 segment. They might show some footage before
then...just little clips, but he will not perform until the 8:30 half
hour.

Just my thoughts on the shifting ticket on-sale dates, etc.: After Wendy and Dave removed the Sting BND tour on-sale dates from their http://ww.stingchronicity.co.uk site, and after seeing a number of
posts about on-sale dates not being accurate, Ticketmaster not knowing, etc., I did a bit of further checking, and found that some of Sting's previously-announced TV appearance dates were changed,
also. I don't have any inside track on any of this. It simply looks to me as if Sting's management (I assume that great guy (sic) Miles?) did not have things nailed down, or is disorganized, or
whatever. It doesn't seem to be a problem with the Stingchronicity site or with Ticketmaster or the individual concert venues. Maybe bookers, etc. are just sick of Miles. If you've ever seen the BOTN
video, Miles' antics give the viewer the impression that he's all coked up -- he seems to be doing his best to power-arm and offend everyone he deals with. Perhaps there's something similar happening
now, if Miles is still managing Sting. Sting's management generally has the reputation of being hard to deal with. In general these days, people in the USA are less willing to put up with prima donna
type behavior than they were a few years ago, and given that British venues with show dates in 2000 are already selling tickets, maybe this is just a problem with Miles and the American bookers, etc. not
being willing to put up with his behavior.
Also, when Trudie puts together the Rainforest Benefit every year, everything is last-minuted there, too -- guests aren't booked until as little as 6 weeks before the benefit, and this last year, tickets
didn't go in sale until three-and-a-half weeks before the show. In previous years, they didn't even nail the benefit date down til just 8 weeks before the show, which really had Carnegie Hall's
management p-o'd. I don't know if this is a Trudie issue, or a Miles issue, but the sloppy organization has been consistent, pervading even the show's design and theme some years. Lucky for them that
the benefit performances are always so outstanding -- otherwise, I don't think poeple would put up with it at all, at all.

I jest you not with this request!!!
I am a Police/Sting fan of over 20 years. I have recently moved from the UK to the States. Problem being is that apart from news on Internet I am out of touch with things. Pennslyvania seems to be lagging behind in the communication stakes!! I have still not HEARD the new single yet!!!! My brother in the UK is sending me the cd's..single & album in the post but until then I have heard NOTHING!!!
Has anyone posted a snippet on the Internet for listening purposes???

First of all please excuse me as i am new to this list for asking questions that have probably been asked a thousand times!!!
Secondly...hallelujah!!!! my package came from the heart of England to sunny ol' Pa...BND in cassette format and the 2 cd fornats!!!
This is the first time I have heard the song and it is excellent!!
I get a bit emotional when I hear new material from the man as it usually means that a tour is on its way and I will get to have an audience with the legend!!
Today was no exception...from the first note to the last a tingle went shivering up my spine!!
He is back!!!!!
Lastly....why no release in the States for the single????
Again sorry for an obvious repeated question!

In response to an earlier e mail about ticket prices at Trump Marina...$112 for a ticket or in my case..$224 as I got a pair of tickets for my wife and myself.
I am used to paying approx $30-40 for tickets in the UK. How on earth can people justify this prices?
For this price I expect to get a table for 2 and Sting singing at our feet for 120 mins!!!!
I know you have a choice not to buy but in my and I presume 99% of people on this list we want to see the man no matter what!
This on top of being told by Trumps to ring 8.00am Sat morning...spent 45 mins trying to get through on 2 different numbers...then being told to ring Ticketmaster at 9.00am ...spent best part of 30 mins getting thru only to be told that they were not putting the tickets on sale until 10.00am.
Forgive my moans but USA is fast becoming a eye opening experience for me!!!

If some people want the full version of End of the game may I suggest they order the UK CD single.no: 497 152-2.
I know this is obvious to UK based Sting fans but for us fans worldwide this may help as I am sure the record shops in the States or wherever know how to order singles form overseas!!
An Englishman In Pa ( who has now found out his tickets for Atlantic City are $170 each!! Thanks ma in law!!)
