Hi fellow list members, after a little searching on the upcoming venues listed for Sting's tour, it appears he's playing smaller arenas. 2500 - 5000 seats, should provide a more intimate setting. I wonder where he'll play here in Chicago? Later-

Does anyone know/can anyone find out if our Man has any plans to hit the Midwest (ie Wisconsin) during his forthcoming tour? I intend to make my way out to Vegas for the opening night/s anyway, but a show closer to home would just put the icing on the cake...

I've just read *THAT* review of Synchronicity that Dave & Wendy mentioned. What an infuriatingly misinformed person Dave McCullough is.
I've never quite understood giving the job of reviewing to someone who doesn't like the act they are listening to.... after all, the ones who are going to buy it are the fans, surely??
And as for "songs about screwing birds, taking drugs and cutting budgies' necks off", not everyone is as callow, shallow and jaded as you, Mr McCullough. There are people in the world who appreciate a little substance in entertainment.
Just my tuppenceworth,

Subject: (police) police b-sides and FAQs
Date: 20 Jul 1999 10:38:49 -0400
If I were Miles . . . Actually, the following is from Marisa's site
(http://stingetc.com/lyrics/index.html). For all newcomers to this list,
I highly recommend visiting her site and reading the FAQ sections (then
head over, of course, to Dave and Wendy's site at
http://www.stingchronicity.co.uk/home.html)
This is the only b-side Police compilation that makes any sense, since
these versions/songs do not appear on the box (Message in a Box) set:
> 1.Peanuts (edit) 2:52 (taken from the single: Roxanne)
> 2.So Lonely (edit) 3:10 (taken from the single: So Lonely)
> 3.Can't Stand Losing You (live!) 5:30 (taken from the double LP: Strange Fruit - 21 Years of Alternative Radio)
4.Message In A Bottle (edit) 3:50 (taken from
the promotional single: Message In A Bottle)
> 5.De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da (Japanese) 4:00 (issued, along
> with the Spanish version, as a single in the USA. It was also issued in Japan and Spanish-speaking countries)
> 6.De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da (Spanish) 4:00 (see above)
> 7.Wrapped Around Your Finger (live!) 5:22 (taken from the US 12" single: Wrapped Around Your Finger + The B's)
> 8.Don't Stand So Close To Me (live!) 4:01 (taken from the 12"single: Don't Stand So Close To Me '86)
> 9.Truth Hits Everybody '83 3:33 (taken from the limited edition gatefold single: Every Breath You Take)
> 10.Every Breath You Take (backing track) 4:05 (issued as a single in Japan with backing track to Roxanne as the b-side)
> 11.Roxanne (backing track) 3:11 (see above)
> 12.Don't Stand So Close To Me '86 (dance mix) 6:23 (taken from the 12" single: Don't Stand So Close To Me '86)
>
> ** Note: this also does not include any of the songs >released on Stontium 90 or any of the sessions recordings made by The >Police for Eberhard Schoener.
>
> The dance mix of Don't Stand...'86 actually appears on the German edition of the box set. It replaces the "regular" version of Don't Stand...'86 that appears on other box sets. The German edition can be recognized by a small, square, white sticker on the back of the
> package that reads: Discs Made In Germany.
>
> De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da was also re-recorded in 1986 for the
> "greatest hits" album. It was never released commercially though.
> Because of this, it is legitimately *not* included in the category of
> every note the Police recorded and released commercially.
>
> A similar situation exists with Voices Inside My Head. This song
> was re-recorded (perhaps at a sound check?) by the band in the early
> part of the 1980's for use as their on-stage introduction music in
> concert. It was never released commercially on an album or single,
> though you can hear it on the video The Synchronicity >Concert.
The lyrics behind the main chorus appear on the UK release liner notes....
The actual line is a biblical reference, quoting St Augustine of Hippo, who is supposed to have said "The less I need the more I get". I don't know much more about this, but could probably find out, should anyone be interested.

I know this is getting to be an old thread, but I just took a look at Dave&Wendy's site (haven't been there for quite a while) and decided to check out this interview. I have to say that despite the fact the review was done 16 years ago, I
still felt like punching the bloke lights out - completely clueless in my opinion. I can only imagine that this guy was trying to piss people off with comments like
"In truth, they are a drummer who wants to be in Maze but isn't good enough and is still in spirit, banging away in his attic; a guitarist approaching sixty who would still be lucky to get a gig down the Nashville (his style isn't so much
limited as apparently severely restricted by approaching senility"
So anyway, the internet being as great as it is, I decided to see if I could find out anymore about this prat. I had to laugh when I discovered this interview:-
The bloke loves Scriti Politi - one of the biggest piles of sh*t to ever make the charts (imho). A singer who calls himself 'Green' - presumably he once wore a Green jumper or something. Dave McCullough makes references to The Fall, and
the moment I heard this I thought he's one of these NME type reviewers who love the sound of their own voices and have an amazing ability to leave the reader wondering what the hell they just spent ten minutes trying to read, without a
single bit of constructive criticism or a clear description of what the music is really like - give me Q magazine any day!
So in conclusion, I guess his opinion could never have really counted for anything and is probably nowadays writing reviews for some gutter local tabloid that no-one reads.
There'll be hell to pay on Judgement Day....

Many years ago, I purchased "The Police - Greatest Hits" Video. The other day, I decided to play the video as I hadn't seen it in a long time.
When the song "Don't Stand So Close To Me '86" played, I freeze-framed the ending where Sting, Stewart, & Andy were standing and different pictures were appearing rapidly at the top of the screen. I noticed that the pictures were album covers and magazine covers. One of the pictures, however, had Sting, Stewart, & Andy with mustaches, beards, and eye glasses drawn on them. Where did that picture come from? Was this an actual record/magazine cover or was this a practical joke Sting, Stewart, & Andy inserted in the video for the perceptive fans? If any of the mailing list members noticed this before or know anything about it, please let the rest of us know.
Thanks and best regards!

In 1984, Sting changed his hair style as he was filming the movie 'The Bride'. I believe he had the same hair style in 'The Bride' as he had in the Band-Aid Xmas video.
Did he only have plastic surgery on his nose, or did he also change some other feature?

This is a follow-up to my earlier e-mail message.
So far, the response to my e-mail is good and I'd like to thank those who have replied.
However, I've received several e-mails directly to my e-mail address. I would prefer if you post directly to the List so that the other List members will also know your replies.
Cheerios!

I noticed that when you click on "Reply," that your reply now
automatically goes to the individual not the list. Was there a change to
the way the list is set up? I don't remember reading anything about it.
Is there someone in charge of that, so perhaps we could correct it?

Hi all!
1. Sydney, Australia
2. I speak the queens english at work
and orstralian inglish after a number of beers after work!
I am 34 years old and have been listening to the police since 1979.
I saw the band 3 times when they toured Australia in the 80's.
The Synchronicity concert in 1984, an open air gig at the old Sydney Show Grounds is still my all time favorite. (Crowded House at the Roxy in LA, when I was the only Aussie in the nightclub is my second, in 1988.)
I just realized that I never gave information about myself.
I am 28 years old, I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and I speak English and some French.
By the way, I was the originator of the List Members' questions.
When I first posted my message, I had no idea it would generate such a great respose.
My questions were meant to get to know you guys a little better - they weren't meant to be a scientific poll as someone has mentioned. But now that they have, it's fantastic!
I do not understand why some people, or should I say ONE person, is so negative.
I will not stoop to that person's level, as I believe positive actions and comments, and not negative remarks, make this List (and life in general) better for us all, including those who are so negative.
Cheerios to all and keep the replies flowing in.

Why won't he (we all know who we're talking about) just let things be.
People appear to be enjoying this interaction of information.
In a day or two, the personal data exchange will end and the postings will get back to normal, but I'm sure that there will be a lot more *contributors* to the list.
The purpose of the list is for Sting and The Police fans from all over the world to get together and share their knowledge and ideas about Sting and The Police;
if we get to know one another also, the more power to us all.
P.S. Let's give peace a chance.

Aha! Another CH/Sting fan. That's good to see.
Okay, I guess I should give some more info.
1. I live on Long Island in New York.
2. I'm 40 years old. Ouch.
3. I've been a Police fan since 1977. Heard "Fallout" on Italian punk
compilation LP in late '77. Had no idea who these guys were but the
song was good.
4. Saw the Police on their first "tour" of America in 1978, and then again
in 1979--small clubs in Syracuse, NY, where I was attending college, both
times. And both times got a chance to talk to all three members. I even
drank Sting's Heineken backwash at the second show. Yum!
5. Have seen Sting so many times that I can't even count.
6. I also love Neil Finn (Crowded House/Split Enz) and have met him
numerous times. Is that "De Do Do Do" story really true? ;)

The Police List was meant for fans of The Police and Sting to get together to discuss topics of interest to them.
The common thread amongst us all was, is, and will be The Police/Sting. These rock stars have brought us together and what's wrong if we get to know each other a little better.
I say we continue to discuss matters with regards to The Police, Sting, and THEIR FANS.
Censorship must not be allowed.
As our learned friends have said:
Poets priests and politians
Have words to thank for their positions
Words that scream for your submission
And no-one's jamming their transmission
'Cos when their eloquence escapes you
Their logic ties you up and rapes you
In case I don't make it back here, you guys are THE BEST.
