This is a fantastic idea - you have my full support and agreement. I think that the reformation of the Police is not only long overdue, but would be an excellent way of raising money.
Think how many people there are who would love to see this band perform again.... and what about the ones (myself included) who never got to see them first time around?
Let's get this thing moving!

I would love to see a Police reunion more than anything, and I think it's
a good idea. People say that bands that reunite do it just for the money
and their new material is crappy. But I honestly think a Police renunion
could change these ideas. They are three amazing musicians who know how to
write songs and put on a show. How could they not be amazing? The
semi-recent show that Stew and Andy put on together in LA supporting that
Outlandous D'Americas thing is a testament to that. Even though I wasn't
there, I know that they rocked! The addition of Sting would make it that
much more incredible!
I am waiting for a full blown reunion album and tour. Hopefully my wish
will be granted one day.
Good luck to all those college kids going through the old finals grind.

In my opinion, I don't think that the Police, should they ever re-form, would successfully produce any new material nearly as good as their original stuff... as has already been cited here, they have all moved on from that stage in their lives.
However, as I understand it, this reunion thing is all about getting them to *PLAY* at Net Aid. This does not require the penning of new tunes.
I think that it would be great to see them play together again; and if they did decide to put out some new material, I would definitely be buying it. I just don't think it would compare to the oldies.

I don't have a Sting Lithograph but I do have a silk screen limited
edition huge painting kinda thing of the Police. I believe it is an image
from the Outlandos cover photo session. I got it beautifully framed so
it's probably worth around $200. It's is definetly one of my prize
possesions.
Don't even bother asking because I will never sell it:)

Not because i particilarily like it (i do) but because for example; if you were a Beatles fan in the 60's, and you had the opportunity to buy a lithograph of the band (even if it was a crappy one), wouldnt you wish now that you had bought it? Besides, Sting is not going to be doing this forever. Does anyone here own it?? Jane

The movie is called "Dune", based on the 50s novel by Frank Herbert. Sting plays Feyd Harkonnen, nephew to the evil baron Harkonnon. You should read the book. It's good.
The Guy from Star Trek (Jean-Luc Picard) is called Patrick Stewart.

His hair was spiked and he was wearing nothing but black tights that went all the way over the heels of his feet. Oh yes, he had on his typical black watch too. Anyone see that?

Geeeezzzz I feel old judging by the amount of people on this list that never saw the band live. I also feel some what priviliged, that I saw the Police 3 times in the 80's.
I saw them play the Capitol twice, here in Sydney back in 81 I think. Then I was at both shows of the Synchronicity tour, Sydney and Melbourne.
Melbourne was the last stop on the world tour. I actually think now that I am really lucky to have seen their last offical stadium gig. I am not counting the Amnystey gig in 86. (No flames if I am incorrect here!!!!)
Cheers!

I think that personally I could not decide which I prefer. The older ones fit better with certain moods, and more recent with others. I have found that the more recent Police albums have a feel which is closer to that of (some of) Sting's solo work, although the sound itself is different.
But if I was forced to choose, I would probably say
1 Synchronicity
2 Outlandos D'Amour
3 Ghost in the Machine
4 Regatta De Blanc
5 Zenyatta Mondatta.
Although I tend to listen to the "Message in a Box" set, so the albums often seem to merge into each other, and the distinctions become blurred.
Just my tuppence worth....

What is the general opinion of the list on Sting's live rendition of Police songs? In my opinion/experience, some of them are awesome, and some not so impressive. Sometimes the sound quality is better but the arrangement poor, and others the re-arrangement seems almost better (if that is actually possible!!).
Your thoughts would be intereSTING....

In my opinion, "Ghost In The Machine" is the greatest Police album and one
of the greatest albums of all time. There is not one bad song there,
(which you can say about all the other Police albums) and the mood the
album creates is very intense. You could call it a "concept album" on some
levels, but it doesn't matter anyway because it is amazing.

I agree with you Malav. I couldn't see The Police live when they came to Rio de Janeiro because i was too young, but when Sting came I was there to see him in Maracana, and the audience was a little bit frustrated cause he played many songs from DOTBT and NLTS (most of the show) and few songs from The Police time. For me it was an excellent show but for others it wasn't.
Cheers
