Subject: RE: (orb) AUNTIE AUBREY ultra reissue
Ultra has released material on vinyl before. At
least some 12" singles, so I'm hoping. But then
I waited to buy Groove Armada's "Vertigo" on Jive/
Electro so I could get the vinyl at a better price
and they didn't release it on vinyl. Jive/
Electro had been releasing quite a bit of vinyl
up to that point. Ask you local shop if they
can order the vinyl, sometimes they can check
their database and see if it's available to order.
FVLL
Will either of the new aunty aubrey albums be
pressed to vinyl at all?

Anybody heard this track? I've seen it around on a few sites available for
purchase in MP3 format. I know it's from the album "Random" - which are covers
of Gary Numan songs (http://www.liquidmusicnetwork.com/cgi-

Actually, has anybody heard the album as a whole?

for the slow ones on the list (like me), what is a sample?
A sample, in this case, would be a snippet of sound sourced from somewhere
else. A good example (or good use in a sentence) of sample would be
Ministry's extensive use of sampled dialogue from "Full Metal Jacket" on the
song "Thieves." They took the dialogue and placed it in the new context of
their song (often to rather stunning effect). There has been quite a bit of
controversy concerning this, as even the Orb was taken to court for their
sampling Minnie Ripperton's "Loving You" in "A Huge Ever-Growing Pulsating
Brain That Rules From the Center of the Ultraworld". Without sampling,
hip-hop, breakbeat techno, ambient, and *definitely* drum'n'bass would be
dead in the water. Sampling may also be used to take a sound the artist
himself makes and allow manipulation electronically (such as making a drum
pattern yourself, then taking it and snipping it up to make a d'n'b track,
etc.). Sampling has existed in some shape or form ever since sound could be
recorded easily: witness tapes made of snippets of industrial noise (i.e.
Throbbing Gristle and Einsturzende Neubauten, who have both composed works
consisting of tape loops re-cut together). The use of, say, an Akai (makers
of the most famous digital samplers) or a computer to do something similar
to re-cutting tape, just makes it easier.
Cheers,
The Other Justin (Roby).

the japanese one will set you back at least $35, though, provided you even
find it. same goes for the UK cd. the german 12" might be the easiest way

Heh. This is massively out of print. I've seen perhaps two copies go
across eBay in the past couple of years. Also, it is one of the PDO
discs that suffers from bronzing, so be very careful if you buy one
sight unseen. You'd probably have better luck picking up the UK Who
Needs Love Like That? single (LCD MUTE 150).
> the happiest girl mix is on both the UK and japanese editions of one of

There are two different Orb mixes of Happiest Girl. The vocal mix in
question is only on the UK version of the single (LCD BONG 20).

how different is the ultra reissue from Aubrey Part 1 / Island release?
Extra: Dave Stewart - Lily Was Here ( if you ask me, it's BLOODY, AWFULLY
TACKY 80's FM MOR radio crap, only with some orbient sounds) and Marathon -
Movin (ambientapella live mix) (ALSO terrible, IMO).
Lost/deleted: Depeche Mode - Happiest Girl (not very Orby, but I loved it),
Love Kittens - What Goes On (ditto), Erasure - Ship of fools (also an
unfortunate deletion - I have a feeling since they're not listed for part 2,
they couldn't renew the rights) and Primal Scream's Higher than the sun (but
it's listed for part 2)
Personally, I wish he would have cut out Maurizio's Ploy.
Yello, You got say yes... is listed as Orb goes the weasel mix instead of
Orb extended remix, but it sounds the same to me. At a superficial listen, I
heard extra whipping sounds at the beginning of Killing Joke Democracy and
some extra samples at the beginning of Satellite Serenade (loud and
disruptive like the whips, but cool). Also, Zodiac Youth is sent to the end
of CD2.

Heh. Try the Lisa Stansfield remix. :P (Though I don't think the
Marathon mix is all that bad.)
I *want* the Delcom remix released. That is one tasty bit of music.

What Goes On is a great track, I'd rather have it than the other three
deleted tracks.
Look at the bright side; there are a bunch of tracks on the second set
that I never expected to own, much less own on CD.

Personally; I wish that they'd do a mega-gonzo 15-CD boxed set of every
Orb remix ever, with reproductions of the original packaging. But I'm

Subject: happiest girl versions (was: Re: (orb) Re: "license restrictions in the usa")
Actually, there are three versions, according to the depechemode.com site:
Happiest Girl
Mix name: The Pulsating Orbital Mix
Details: This is the version released commercially - it is shorter than the
UK promotional version. This is an instrumental mix.
Appears on:
- - The b side of the "World In My Eyes" UK Limited 12" single (UK Mute L12
BONG 20) - OUT OF PRINT
- - The b side of the "World In My Eyes" US CD single (US Sire/Reprise
21735-2)
Happiest Girl
Mix name: The Pulsating Orbital Mix
Details: This is the promotional version. It contains an extra minute or so
of mix that was cut when the track was released commercially. This is an
instrumental mix.
Appears on:
- - The b side of the "World In My Eyes" UK promotional 12" single (UK Mute
P12 BONG 20) - OUT OF PRINT
Happiest Girl
Mix name: The Pulsating Orbital Vocal Mix
Details: This is the same mix as the "Pulsating Orbital Mix", but with
vocals. The version on the Orb compilation was mastered in mono.
Appears on:
- - The b side of the "World In My Eyes" UK Limited CD single (UK Mute LCD
BONG 20) - OUT OF PRINT
- - The Orb's "Auntie Aubrey's Excursions..." 2 CD remix album (UK Deviant
DVNT12CD) - OUT OF PRINT
Still looking for the promo version, though....

Anyone else notice that the Democracy remix on the new
Auntie Aubrey is significantly different, around the ten minute mark
everything drops out except for one clanging beat, the version on the
first AA had no breakdown like this. So my question is, which is the
"real" Russian Tundra mix?

The records haven't been pressed yet; they are supposedly going to be
pressed to order. I wouldn't expect to see them in the US before the
middle of August.
You *should* be able to email garphoo@badorb.com and request that the
VAT be removed from your order. (Although Ms. Bartos seems to be having

satisfaction. e seems to have overlooked the fact that most Orb fans are mid
thirties, fat bastards, ho will not fit into a large t-shirt."

Subject: (orb) NYC residents, anyone who likes civil rights, please read!!!
Altho this is off-topic when viewed from the strictest definition
of topic, its definately pertinant to anyone who likes to go out and
listen to music at clubs or bars in NYC. I tried to just forward the
message to the list but stupid majordomo never seemed to let the message
through...
Anyways, anyone who's ever visited NYC in the last few years is
aware of the absurd cabaret licensing laws we have here... Basically,
venues without this license can do everything other venues do, except that
patrons cannot 'dance.' Please go to
http://www.ccc.columbia.edu/~benmay/dance.txt
To read the message... Basically, a week from today (thurs the
26th), there's going to be a meeting about the problems with these laws,
and ANYONE who lives in NYC and is on this list should attend this
meeting. Any non-NYC residents who KNOW people who live in NYC, PLEASE
PLEASE PLEASE pass along this info.
Down with fascism!!!

Although I did place my order over two weeks ago
and haven't received my records.
ikki
I thought the deal was they would press them up after
the ordering was closed, print the amount ordered (plus
some promo's I suppose) and THEN mail them out around
the end of the month. That's what I remember reading
awhile back.

For some reason, I was watching a truly wretched movie
the other night (on Movieplex or some other similar
channel) called _Empire Records_. I was about to turn
it off when I noticed a sticker in the back storeroom of
the record store which read: ORB
I thought that was pretty neat. I said to my wife, "Look!
And Orb sign!" And then I turned the channel.
Thought I'd share that with y'all.
Have a great weekend!

Dear big people (and little ones)...
XL TOGS ARE TWICE THE PRICE (Price: #17.00 - #19.75 Including VAT at
17.5%)... SO TWICE THE ORDER...
===>does this mean the cost per shirt is twice the price of the none xl
shirts or does this mean that since you have to by two shits the cost is
twice...i'm confused.

Hey listers, I'm looking for someone to share my apartment in
brooklyn with me (current roomate moving out). The rent is $700/month and
the place is nice and sunny, close to MANY trains (closest station has
2/3/4/5/n/r/q/w/M/LIRR, and within 10 blocks walk also A/C/G/F). I'm easy
to live with and own lots and lots of orb music. :)
If you're interested, pls reply off the list. Tnx!

This is really a beautiful picture!
It is an absolutely awesome picture of the Earth taken
from the Boeing
built Space Station.
Check the link below...
The image is a panoramic view of the world from the new
space station. You
can scroll East-West and North-South. (Left and right
and up and down)
Canada's population is almost exclusively along the U.S.
border. Moving
east to Europe, there is a high population concentration
along the coast of
the Mediterranean. Check out the development of Israel
compared to the rest
of the Arab countries. Note the Nile River, The Outback
of Australia and the
TransSiberian Rail Route. Moving east, most striking is
the difference
between North and South Korea.

Two of my favorite bands are playing in NYC. Both shows are part of
the convergence festival, and I believe the only way to get tickets is
through them.
http://www.convergence7.com
anyhow.. the two bands are 'Coil' and 'Snog'.
Coil does really cool experimental music. Coil was spawned out of the
embers of 'Throbbing Gristle'.
Snog is from australia. A very fine electro group. Political lyrics,
anti-capitalist, anti-fascist, anti-government in general, and all
that and really danceable too.
Just thought that some people would be interested.

OK, I don't have the old version, so I can't compare track lists (only
sort of tried to follow the discussion about that) or samples/versions.
BUT, after all this time (and passing up the old version used a couple
of times) I picked up the new version and can emphatically state that
any positive reviews you have read in this forum are spot on.
Quite a different dimension of Orb-live-eon, very impressive, wow. If
you are still wondering whether you should, just get it.
TC
PS - Is the (I guess this is what it's saying; it's all flanged out of
course) "5-4-3-4-3-4" (from "Outlands") on track 8 of disc 2 on the
original release, or is this a new sample inclusion? I about wet my
pants when that hit.
