Actually, there were indeed large factions of protesters - some
rampantly environmentalist (and not concerned about local governments'
rights to control their environmental policy), and some viciously
anti-capitalist/technology.  The number of people I talked to who were
actually protesting WTO for reasons of policy was actually pretty low.
Most were just protesting to have some sort of activist agenda without
really having had to think about it.

Please, people, please, let's let the politics go.
This reminds me of the fun-not fun flame wars we had
about a year ago, again with environmental/anti-nuke
topics...frankly we are not going to solve anything
here, so why bother?

I am saying this because I always feel a bad vibe when
someone has to post KEEP IT OFF LIST. Usually because
it is written angrily. Plus, this time there is lots
of anger in some of the opinion posts.

I've got my opinions, just like anyone else, and I'm
going to keep them to myself. This issue is
complicated, nobody here is exactly right or wrong.
Everyone, or almost so, has made good points, although
the methods...

Man, I wish that original poster had just said, here
is the link, check it out if you want, instead of
inciting everyone. He or she is really the one to
blame for this noise.

Finally, on a personal note, I have lived in China for
the last 2 years. So please don't post ignorant
statements about China when you really don't have a
clue. That goes for a bunch of people. At least
qualify your statements to express your lack of info.
And no, I am not a communist, I am a free market
capitalist, and more so than the US gov't, with their
irrational prohibited markets and price controls.

It could be argued that we encourage innovation, not because of the nature
of capitalism, but maybe because as we evolve, and technologies become more
advanced, the need for innovation and perhaps ways of perfecting
technologies (usually to a point where technologies are MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY
FRIENDLY - remember the original topic which started this all off?) is
there?

I think its all very chicken and egg - humans need/use technology which in
turn enables us to develop and perhaps live more sophisticated lives (i.e.
healthier, cleaner, efficient, etc.) and through this development we in turn
crete better technology than the previous forms. This is all arguable
though, like most things (even THAT is arguable).

Ok, this is getting ridiculous.  First, despite the off-topic nature of
this thread, I have been posting the occasional observation to the list
as I find it relevant - environmentalism vs. technology is a seemingly
contradictory subject but is particularly relevant in electronic music
and rave culture - especially as many participants are in fact
anti-technology but using it to make the music or what have you.
Second, you will notice I have not flamed anyone, just made reasoned
arguments.  Third, I lived in Seattle at the time of the protests; I
talked to many protestors; I observed anti-capitalist bumper stickers
and billboards, and I generally found the whole thing rather strikingly
similar to other historical instances of mindless mob behavior.

Question about samples during first track of Dr. LX P's Voyage into P -
on my copy they sound actually bad, squelched out to the point that the
static basically overruns the rest of the music going on.  The disc also
tracks poorly (very unusual behavior), skipping some during track 1
particularly.

So question 1 is does anyone else experience this particularly
unpleasant effect on the samples (I can see it being that way on
purpose, but it also sounds potentially speaker-damaging), and question
2 is do I possibly have a defective disc?

I use TrackMaker (freeware) ->

You can split to the minute/second.  I use it to create tracks in the live
shows from the cd tree.  Then I convert to .wav and burn to disk without the
laser skips between tracks.  The latest version lets you pause in Winamp and
grab the track position.  Works like a charm.

I have had problems tracking the Tea Time mp3's though.  I've e-mailed the
makers (of TrackMaker), and the only explanation they can provide is that
the source file may be corrupt.  I've tried on all the Tea Times on the OAA,
so if anyone has clean mp3's of any Tea Times (but especially 1-25-01),
please let me know - I'd be eternally grateful!

"Dictionary of the Khazars" is a lexicon novel based
on stories of the Khazar people from around the 7th
and 8th Century and subsequent searches for their
history.  The book is collated into three prospectives
on the Khazar Question.  The Jewish, the Moslem and
the Christian who all attempted and all claimed to
have coverted the Khazars to their religion.

The Male and Female versions have a single differing
page which makes a difference to the ending or how you
perceive the ending.

movie does not capture any of Burroughs' drug induced
descriptive permutations.  Also Trainspotting - but

I 100% agree with this statement here, those guys are not heroes. However
I don't think Bush tried give China that technology by having someone

Sadly the reason those people are heroes and get awards, is because as
a society, we cannot seem to handle any kind of tragedy, even though
if you look around there is horrible tragedy everywhere in this country.
But Clinton had 8 years of persidency to solve all of the ills of
the country and he did not do it. Bush won't do it either. It will all
be the same.

Funny I don't think that Vince ever said he was Republican. Is that just
an assumption? I also like that fact that everything bad must be
Republican and that the Democrats never do the same things. Lets see about
freedoms. President Clinton rode a wave of support from the Gay community
when he was elected President, with the promise of removing descrimination
against gays in the military. Now did he actually fulfill that promise of
allowing gays in the military? No he did not. He changed the policy to
don't ask don't tell. But Gays are stillnot allowed in the military and
are still removed from the military if anyone ever finds out that they are
gay. This did cause Clinton some loss of support in the Gay community
and made the newspapers.

Did Clinton allow anyone to smoke joints or do other drugs? Nope. In fact
he increased the budget for the war on drugs, making it higher then under
the previous president a Republican George Bush Sr.. And I am not just saying
a higher dollar value either, which could be accounted for by inflation, but
actually a higher percentage of the budget. And when California allowed
for medical marijuana, did he leave them alone? No he did not, he sent the
federal government's forces after them, via the FBI and Janet Reno. The
problem here is that most people in this country don't like drugs, and
think they are a major problem (via most polls and studies taken). As
long as that is the case, we will see every President treat them the
same way. It does not matter if most people are swayed by stupid propoganda
to make them hate drugs, they still do. Besides Clinton did not even have
the balls to admit he smoked a joint. He said " I did not inhale". Why did
he do this? Because he did not want to lose political standing with the
majority of people, who all hate drugs. Funny, when we all saw Mayor Marion
Barry (Democrat) of DC, smoking crack on video tape. He said "bitch set
me up". Maybe if he said "I did not inhale", we would have forgiven him.
Gee and he was a democrat, who smoked crack, did he legalize drugs? Nope.



Now I don't like Clinton at all. I don't like Bush. I don't like Gore.
But I think it is sad when people try to point out perceived ideological
differences on issues, when they never will be enacted.
