I know a couple of people posted on this recently, but what is the best way
of getting Vinyl to mp3. I tried following the links, but it seemed to talk
about mp3 in general rather than getting Vinyl or another Audio source to
mp3.
I know mp3 loses something in the compression, but I don't really care. I
need to get several tracks onto CD for listening to elsewhere.
I have EasyCD v5, and it has Spin Doctor, which is supposed to do the job
via a sound card. Either I'm a spastic or the soundcard is pretty basic, cos
I couldn't get it to work [It's the default Soundmax one that comes with the
new Compaq Deskpro's].
I tried every which way to get it to work and I just ended up recording
silence.
I tried using my Technics SL1200 with both an Ortofon cart and a Stanton via
a lead that took phono to a single banana plug. Then I remembered that the
output from phono it very low, so took it through my mixer which has a
preamp. Still no difference.
Any ideas?

Hmmph. Every time I see Bush's irritating sneer it makes we want to throw up.
The only reason this doofus is President is because so many ignorant fools bought into his whole "clean up the White House" bullshit. While I'm not suggesting Clinton was an angel, the fact that so many people could be duped into voting for Bush just because Clinton got a blow job in the Oval Office is sickening. If any of these idiots would be willing to read a little history, they'd realize that Clinton wasn't the first Prez to screw around - he just had the "luck" of doing it in a time when we can find out anything about anyone, anytime of the day, because the press has a right to. But they all bought into it, or at least just enough of them did, since it was hardly a landslide victory, And don't even get me started about the Florida votes. No, I'm sure nothing crooked went on there, of course not..
I'm not suggesting what Clinton did was "OK", but I'll take his legacy over an underqualified ass who's strings are pulled by oil companies any day.
The good news is that with the change of power in the Senate, Bush will now become a carbon copy of the Prez his father was - frustrated and ultimately inconsequential. Senator Jeffords, you're my hero.
Sorry for the tangeant, I just had to unleash a bit....
Now to get back on topic - anyone from Chicago going to the Area 1 show? I'm still contemplating myself...

Meant to ask this at the same. Apologies for the multiple posts.
Anyone know the best way [or software] for splitting up large mp3's into
halves or something? some of the live sets from the CD tree are over 80 mins
long and EasyCD won't let me write them to CD as they fall off the end.
I even tried using some other mp3 burning s/w I had and that was the same.
I'm talking about mp3 to audio, rather than just burning the mp3 to a
cd.............

Good point! I love trying to explain this to people. HUMAN BEINGS
DO NOT (currently) HAVE THE ABILITY TO DESTROY ALL LIFE ON THE PLANET. The
only way we could do this is by either ruining the earth's orbit or
blocking out/destroying the sun. Even if we had nuclear war and we wiped
out everything except for some little bacteria and microbes in the south
pole, that's already like 50 steps from the beginning! Its already
I agree with you both on one thing: I don't think that we have the ability to destroy the Earth. Why? I think that once we push the Earth enough, it'll push back and we won't stand a chance.
But does this mean we shouldn't be concerned about what we do to the environment? Doesn't it say a lot for a people who would disregard their environment, or view it as "something we can't ruin so it doesn't matter what we do? We don't have to go overboard with environmentalism but it has to be in the radar screen, folks. And anyone who spouts on about "scientific facts" - wake up, not everything can be justified by science. Science is a tool, not a rule book.

Use a conversion utility to convert them into .wavs, then use a .wav
editor to slice, dice, etc. to your heart's content. Then burn the .wavs
to an audio CD.
The process I use is:
Convert the mp3 to wav using EAC.
Use SoundForge 4.5 to develop a tracklisting with timings and clean up
the file (get rid of tape-flips, silence, glitches, etc. Then cut the
file into CD-sized chunks (I prefer to use cue-sheets, rather than a
bunch of wav files.)
Generate a cue-sheet, and burn with CDRWin.
(For the Teatime shows I do much the same thing, except I use Streambox
Ripper to convert the original RA files, and I cut the discs into
10-minute chunks on the cue-sheet, rather than try to do track breaks.)
I've done close to half the the shows from the mp3 set, and I'm willing
to provide my tracklistings/timings...it takes a lot of time to do it;
no reason a bunch of us should be repeating the same effort. I'm also
willing to trade copies of the shows I've done...)
