Is this the chem bros mailing list??
I hate going through with useless information on this list that doesnt even
pertain to The Orb. And info that could be replied to the sender and not

there's pictures of andy, alex, & thomas too. I've been trying to keep a

Subject: (orb) Old dub record recomendations (and where to find cheap?)
As a very long time Orb lsitener I have started to fall in love with the
sounds of old dub. I was wondering if someone could recomend 5-10 must have
dub albums.
I know that LX msut be a fan of Lee Perry, Mad professor and King Tubby
because he samples and plays them. I have also really like a lot of the
Horace Andy I have heard. There are a lot of records and I have no concrete
starting point so an essential listening list would be cool.
Also, there must be somewhere on the net to get ahold of these records dirt
cheap as they are failry old and were at one point in relatively wide print.
cheers,
Danjel

This I guess is in continuation to my last message. i don't have any
friends who listen to dub so I only know what I have read or stumbled
across. I am fairly picky about the dub I like and I have been unable to
find the right group. I am looking for well produced, not cheezy, LOTS of
echo, good patoi (sp?) singing/samples, and not necessarily always glued to
the rigid dub reggae formula. I have found Zion Train can be like this,
also I heard an amazing song by the New Age Steppers called "Fade Away"
(features the singer from the punk group "the Slits"). Anyone have some
good recomendations?
cheers,
Danjel

I hesitated to buy alot of dub stuff cos most of what I heard was kinda
on the low end. when I worked at a record store, I ordered a buch to try
them out & didn't find anything very good. I spose you have to know the
best albums b these people or you end up w/ suck. but I did get the 3cd
set for Lee Perry, which came out about a year or so ago. its a
compilation of his stuff & the whole thing seems quality, interesting
material. great song about putting on an iron shirt too. anyways, I
really liked this but listen 1st of course.

Subject: (orb) Introduction
Hello all,
I'm new to the list, so this is a quick introductory message. Skip
if you don't care.
I'm Andrew Janke, a college student (CS/Math major) at the University
of Oklahoma in Norman, OK, USA. I've been listening to Orb for several
years, along with many other ambient and techno/dance/electronic
groups. I have been a DJ for a gothic/industrial club, although I
no longer have time for it.
This list first came to my notice a couple weeks ago while I was
doing a search for a CD I needed. I'm desperately trying to pick
up a copy of CD#1 of the 2cd European Toxygene single (and willing
to pay well for it if someone on this list has one they want to
get rid of). At any rate, since I'm a great fan of the Orb, I
decided to join on to the list.
Orb-related: I have seen bootlegged copies of the Orb Patterns
and Textures video floating around here. Does anyone know if there
was ever a legitimate release to NTSC?

Hello,
I was listening to the second Peel Sessions last night and
really paid attention to it for the first time. I suddenly noticed that
the second track "NO FUN" was, well, rock! Not that I have a problem
with rock, it's just that I wasn't expecting it on an Orb single. =)
Does anyone have the scoop on that particular song? Was it some
sort of joke?

As far as I can tell, whatever you got (aside from Nico's portion) didn't
come from this list. My copy of Nico's message just has his message, no
Microsoft spam junk . . . maybe your mailer munged a couple of unrelated

The Chemical Brothers "borrowed" the name from the Dust Brothers early

Dust Brothers who produced the Beastie Boys' Paul's Boutique and Beck's
Odelay among other less notable projects. Now you know the straight

they use lots of samples from this album, but you can really see an influence

I love the Orb. These guys seem to take me into land/mindscapes that I
can't access otherwise. Hope I'm welcome here.
I've a question, though, regarding Toxygene. Does anyone know where the
little snippet from the beginning came from? The one that starts "oh, what
a beauty......". It sounds as if it's from an old commercial or something.
Just curious.

Hey!! This is an Orb mailing list, try to keep the content somewhat related
to the orb. Unless this is the negativland album you want to trade, then im
game.

Subject: Re: (orb) Old dub record recomendations/new dub
those of you who are interested in newer developments in dub should look for
releases from basic channel productions. this is not typical jamaican dub, but a
blend of dubby bass and effects (reverb/echo) which also has some serious
connections to detroit techno and chicago house. (this is the type of stuff you
would hear djs play between orb sets). gritty, grainy, yet still somewhat
dancefloor friendly (this depends on the artist and sublabel). the labels to
look for include basic channel, chain reaction, main street, din, rhythm and
sound, and maurizio. you will not be dissapointed.
