Ever heard of Riven? Real-time rendering just cannot compare to
prerendered sequences. Make a whole game out of things that are
prerendered. If you have ever played Myst or Riven, you will become totally
immersed, and that it the goal of it (read the second page of the manual.)
Not a real game for gamers, but a game for the casual, these suck you in and
really try to screw up your mind. Myst did, but Riven was more logical.
Hehe, most gamers hate Cyan for these, but they probably haven't even played
it. Back to the atmosphere, if prerendering is done correctly, it can be
superb. The mixing of the two would be the best idea. Not just a real-time
game and then a little movie, but truly mixing them together, if done right
with no technical limitations, is the best way, take up a darn lotta space
though. DVD-ROM!
PS If you reply with a negative comment about Riven, be prepared to
answer some questions proving that you have indeed played it. I don't like
people hating a game they never saw.

I've never played Riven; played Myst some.
Anyway, I'd like to add my voice to those who don't mind what I think
are called "in-engine" cut scenes, a la Goldeneye or StarFox64. The
point is to advance the story and quite frankly I'd prefer the lack of
load time required for "in-engine" cut scenes to the pre-rendered stuff
(please don't jump in and tell me that FFVII has no load times, blah
blah blah - I've heard it all before and am talking generally here). The
in-engine stuff is "immersive" enough for this gamer.
Plus, when we're dealing with the finite capacity of a N64 cart, I'd
prefer for that extra space to be used for extra levels, textures, sound
or whatever instead of pre-rendered cut scenes. Even on 64DD, that space
can be used for better purposes. If you (not you personally, tocher)
need the FFVII-style pre-rendered cut scenes, get a PSX. I can do
without.
Just my two pennies...

1. When you erase where you are in Story mode does it automaticly
erase all your saved levels in Trial mode?
2. Is there only one story mode, I mean like can you only have one game going
at a time???
3. What are coins for?
4. How come when you clear page 1 course 1 does it automaticly
takes you to page two? Like if I wanted to try Page 1 course 2 ???
5. How do you free poochy on page 2 course 1??
6. Where is the third heart on Page 1 course 1?
The 2 I have are the 2 poochy leads you two!

I got so excited after visiting IGN64.com. There's a few news items about
new upcoming games just announced. New games, more games, is
always good news. On top of that, there is a new preview of GT Driving
with a bunch of new screen shots. This game is looking better and better!
Then I visited N64Gazzeta.com. There was a well written editorial titled,
"Is the War Already Lost?" Very interesting read. Also a little depressing.
It basically says that the N64 will never do well in Japan, although it will
continue to be successful in the US. Give it read and let me know what
you all think. I'm inclined to agree with most of the editorial.

every medium has an up and a down
the n64 can do wonderful cinemas
but, if talking about a perfect world, a gaming utopia, then movies of fmv
quality would be better
or even if movies that looked like that, but were done in real time! only a
decade, and we will have realtime cinemas better than prerenders

The game will tell you when to change CDs. All you have to do is hit the Open

The best racer on the N64? On any console? Ever? That depends who you ask. I
still consider Mario Kart 64 the best racer on the N64, Need For Speed 3 as
best on any console (although I bet Gran Turismo will alter that opinion), and
Rad Mobile (coin-op) as the best racer ever.

I think a port of Tomb Raider would look great on the N64, but why anybody
would want such a horrible game is beyond me. I really think a port of
Resident Evil 2 couldn't happen unless the 64 DD became the 64 CD. Now a
polygon Resident Evil game would probably look great, I mean did you see those

The largest Nintendo 64 cartridge so far is Zelda 64 weighing in at 256
MegaBits. A PlayStation CD (actually any CD) can go up to 5200 MegaBits.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the Nintendo 64 is a 64-Bit

I would kinda have to agree in one part, that they need LONGER games, I'm

Also, the N64 has more graphics cappabilities, like anti-aliasing, etc...
The 64-bit processor can also process things faster than the PSX's 32-bit,
so it allows for better graphics.

maybe you should get some sleep...
anyway...about the racing games.. How long do you think a racing game can
be? I think you just don't like the genre in general. There's nothing
wrong with N64 racing games.. they're pretty similar to racing games on the
PSX, or the Saturn.

I think that eventually dual-sided DVD's will be able to hold up to 17
gigabytes, but right now the first-gen DVD's can only hold like 4.1 gigs.
Still a hell of a lot more than carts, or even CD's, for that matter. I'=
m
wondering what game could actually take up 17 gigs... It'd be a bitch to
develop a soild game, with good gameplay, instead of just a graphically
fantastic shell with no real gameplay (cough..Myst..cough.)

Right. I highly doubt your lack of sleep has much to do with your
inadequate grammatical skills.
If you don't like the N64, then why the hell are you on this list? If I
were maintaining this ML, I'd seriously kick your ass off just for that "f
u" crack. Completely unneccessary & inappropriate. Damn pre-schoolers....

Because storage space has nothing to do with actual graphic capabilities.
