  83. and now "The gift" is in my top 5 for 2000, or very
  84. close to it ... so kudos to everyone involved !!  Cate
  85. Blanchett gives quite a performance ... Greg Kinnear,
  86. Hillary Swank ... I mean this is STAR POWERED, Oscar
  87. nominated people !  Even Keanu Reeves was good as the
  88. mean Red Neck.

  423. and it sure was GOD AWFUL, was the first Blair Witch Project. After seeing 
  424. that stinker I sure would never waste my time seeing the second one.

  437. Ok, I watched this nasty film tonight ... I had seen it before a couple years back.  I think it is an excellent serial killer film actually, not as good as "Silence of the lambs" or "Se7en" but it is quite intriguing for the most part ... 4/5 is my score.

Christophe Lambert is an unpopular detective who tries to solve some gruesome murders that appear to have some religious implications.  A nutcase is killing people to "re-create" the body of Jesus for an upcomming resurrection that is supposed to occur ... All the victims are 33 years old, same as Jesus when he died, they all have Biblical names, etc.

Good visuals, dark and disturbing film with many nasty scenes, people being dismembered, bloodbaths, etc.  It is not for the squimmish ... For example at one point a corpse is found without a head sitting on the toilet in an abandoned building, chilling sequence ... (It was not too hard to determine the cause of death in that case)

  443. Usually I don't care for Mr. Lambert and even in this film he is not so great but I like the story enough to recommend the film highly if you like movies like "Se7en" especially.  The ending is certainly a let down but I have to find some flaws since I don't give it a 5/5 !

  464. I saw this great film noir for the first time late
  465. last night ... Wow, this was an incredible movie !
  466. 4.5/5   
  467.  
  468. Produced by the Coen brothers as you probably know it
  469. was re-released last year with 2-3 minutes of
  470. additional footage.  
  471.  
  472. I just love the twists and turns in this movie, how
  473. the audience sees the big picture the whole time while
  474. the characters are left in the dark for the most part,
  475. imagining all sorts of things that are not true, but
  476. they don't know that of course !  Intelligent people
  477. behind this film and it shows.
  478.  
  479. The story is similar to "Red Rock West" (1993 ?)
  480. another great film noir directed by John Dahl ... 
  481.  
  482. A bar owner hires a private detective to follow his
  483. wife who he thinks is cheating on him ... Turns out he
  484. is right and the lady indeed has an affair with the
  485. barman of the hick club ... This infuriates the bar
  486. owner of course and after thinking about it long and
  487. hard he decides to offer 10,000$ to the private
  488. investigator if he would kill both his wife and the
  489. barman for him ... 
  490.  
  491. That is only the initial set up but there are so many
  492. twists in this one it would be CRIMINAL to reveal more
  493. ... All I can say is try to see this cos' it's a
  494. CLASSIC ... 
  495.  
  496. Great acting by everyone involved, Dan Hedaya, M.
  497. Emmett Walsh, Frances McDormand, etc.  I just love the
  498. script, the acting, the dialogues, the atmosphere ...
  499. even the music ... by the end I was humming "But I'm a
  500. believer" ... hehe !

  529. This was a good film although by the end it was
  530. getting a bit silly and implausible.  3/5 ...

  532. John Carpenter wrote & directed this CULT film about 
  533. a group of CHEEKY HOOLIGANS in Los Angeles who are
  534. attacking a nearly abandoned Police Station after
  535. hours ... The set up is that they are in the process
  536. of moving to another location so that is why hardly
  537. anybody is left there ...
  538.  
  539. The HOOLIGANS want to get back at the cops who killed
  540. 6 gang members the day before and they are also after
  541. a man who hides in the station after killing one of
  542. them in self defense ... (That was highly unlikely but
  543. anyway !)
  544.  
  545. The film gets a lil' too long to get started, but when
  546. the gang actually starts attacking the place it is
  547. rather exciting ... They are well armed hooligans too,
  548. using guns with silencers so the distant neighbours
  549. can't really know what is going on and call other cops
  550. to the rescue ... Cutting off the phone lines, the
  551. electricity, they know what they are doing obviously !
  552.  
  553. From that moment it's a "Let's keep them out of here
  554. or else we're doomed !" picture, same as in "Night of
  555. the Living dead" (1968) ... people running around
  556. outside and shooting at random inside the station,
  557. killing some officers, clerks, prisoners who were kept
  558. in the cells too ... Good gunfights there !
  559.  
  560. Low budget film, so-so acting in general ... also some
  561. silly dialogues, I don't think someone would be making
  562. jokes and/or flirting with a female clerk when the
  563. place is under attack and you don't know if you'll
  564. live to tell the tale ... 
  565.  
  566. John Carpenter made the music himself as well,
  567. reminiscent of "Halloween", weird synthetisers !
  568.

  611. *right* there, Scott ... in his new movie : "Don't say
  612. a word", Michael Douglas's wife is played by Famke
  613. Jannsen who will be 36 years old in a month or two ...
  614. She is 21 years younger so she could be his daughter !

  617. Zeta-Jones who is 32 ... Douglas is obviously an
  618. "international man of mystery" since he has a "trophy"
  619. wife like Catherine even if he is 57 years old at the
  620. moment ...

  623. Sept. 25th, only Michael was born 25 years before !) 
  624. They seem happy though so it's ok ... I don't find it
  625. unrealistic in this case since in real life Douglas is
  626. indeed married to a woman who is a lot younger than
  627. him ...

  629. In a film like "Entrapment" they were pushing it
  630. though ... Catherine Zeta-Jones as Sean Connery's love
  631. interest ??  Geeeeesh !  Same With Woody Allen that
  632. you mention, who would believe A young lass in her mid
  633. 20's would be interested in *him* ... Oh well, it's
  634. like that most of the times in HOllywood, older actors
  635. with younger actresses ...

  1375. I saw this film the other night.  Good comedy in
  1376. general.
  1377.  
  1378. At one point, before renting it, I wasn't sure if it
  1379. was worth watching because I had seen the trailer and
  1380. it looked kind of silly, but the film in general is
  1381. more "serious" at least in part, they only kept the
  1382. goofy parts for the trailer !
  1383.  
  1384. Story of some office workers in a huge building in
  1385. Calgary I believe (This could be set in any big city
  1386. with tall buildings all linked together though !)  
  1387.  
  1388. 4 co-workers decide to bet one month of their
  1389. salaries, 10,000$ ... The person who will win all the
  1390. money is the person who will stay inside the complex
  1391. the longest without going outside to get FRESH air
  1392. basically.
  1393.  
  1394. They all live in apartments that can be reached using
  1395. the undergroud system and then they get to their
  1396. offices the same way, they have stores and everything
  1397. they need, you know the drill.  
  1398.  
  1399. It was quite funny how they were avoiding getting out
  1400. of there, playing mind games with each other, plenty
  1401. of amusing situations too : one of the girls has to
  1402. follow her boss who is a compulsive shoplifters, she
  1403. has to prevent him from shoplifting during her lunch
  1404. hour, another one gets mixed up with a cute girl and
  1405. her depressed boyfriend, two co-workers have affairs,
  1406. one is neurotic, etc. Bizarre characters !  
  1407.  
  1408. This was very entertaining and well acted too although
  1409. I didn't recognize anyone in the film.  Small budget
  1410. canadian production, directed by Gary Burns.

  1664. Alright I saw this film tonight, my 2nd time ... I had
  1665. seen it the first time about 3-4 years ago and
  1666. tonight's viewing confirmed my previous rating : 3.5/5
  1667.  
  1668. Audrey Hepburn (AKA : The delicate flower !) stars as
  1669. a young woman who has a really bad day : She learns
  1670. that her husband was murdered and that he was a secret
  1671. agent that stole 250,000$ from the US government.  
  1672.  
  1673. The problem is the money is nowhere to be found and 3
  1674. thugs (Crooked ex CIA folks) are after her as well
  1675. since her dead husband had schemed with them to steal
  1676. the money but then was doublecrossing them so they are
  1677. after her thinking she must know where the money is
  1678. ... George Kennedy & James Coburn look VERY young, not
  1679. sure about the name of the 3rd fellow  !  ;-)
  1680.  
  1681. Carey Grant co-stars with Ms. Hepburn ... he is a kind
  1682. stranger who is helping her, or is he ... Talking
  1683. about his character more would be a spoiler since
  1684. there are numerous twists and turns involving him ...
  1685. He has some funny scenes though, Wow, is that a
  1686. leading man or what ?  He's kind of 
  1687. George Clooney-ish ... I was thinking that a few 
  1688. times during the movie, not because of his looks but
  1689. because of his attitude, loverboy, etc.

  1691. Overall a fine film, hard to describe it, I would say
  1692. it is a comedy but there are some nice hand to hand
  1693. combat scenes, spy games, the works ... The last third
  1694. is really good too, nice pursuit in the PARIS subway
  1695. system.

  1697. Check out Ms. Hepburn's collection of HATS in that one
  1698. ... she changes hats 5-6 times during the movie ...
