Subject: [MV] Six Ways to Sunday - 1998
This is certainly a "sleeper" ... very good movie,
especially if you like Quentin Tarantino and/or David
Lynch's films. The story is weird, twisted, lots of
violence and it is often quite graphic, hallucinations,
blood and guts ... the works.
Norman Reedus plays a young man who is just 18 years old
and is living at home with his oh-so controlling mother
(Deborah Harry !) She even has the room wired in such a
way that she can turn the lights on and off whenever she
wants to. She raised him by himself because her husband
left when the boy was just a wee ladd (the break up scene
is actually amusing !)
Plenty of weird characters and situations. The young man
and his mother obviously have "issues" because the woman
still insists on giving him a daily bath even if he is
taller than her. Bizarre Sexual tensions right *there*, you
know something is "off" though ... the boy never had sex of
course because his mother keeps telling him how all girls
are awful and have diseases between their legs ... She also
checks his clothes for "girl hairs" often ...
After a while he is sick at working in a fast food
restaurant and he becomes friend with a guy who works for
the local mobsters. He figures it is a good way to make
lots of money so he becomes a hitman ... meeting a lovely
young woman who works for the mob boss as a maid along the
way, sweet love story mixed in ...
Quite intriguing, this is a very good dark comedy,
I laughed out loud maybe 10 times while watching it despite
the graphic violence, mainly because it is so weird and
original !!
The acting was so-so, except maybe for Reedus in the lead
but I was having fun anyway because of the story and the
characters that are quite unusual. Recommended.
