  44. I really HATED this teen comedy.  1/5 !! It would make it
  45. on my list of most awful films in any year basically.

  47. Drew Barrymore plays a so-called journalist who goes
  48. undercover in a high school to write articles about the
  49. student life.  We hardly get to see any of her articles and
  50. I was wondering why the paper would send her there in the
  51. first place ... weeks and months of undercover "work", all
  52. sorts of people involved simply to write only one REAL
  53. article ?? Get real !!  This is ludicrous !!  
  54.  
  55. Plus she dresses like a FREAK on her first day and acts
  56. totally inadequate as well, she would be spotted in 2
  57. seconds if this wasn't HOLLYWOOD !!  White jeans and a long
  58. white BOA around her neck ?? Please ... only CHER would
  59. dress like that !
  60.  
  61. The film contains basically every clichΘs in the book and
  62. the teens in that high school are all annoying lil' brats.
  63. Intelligent people are few and far between and they are
  64. seen as "boring" and/or "uncool", big surprise ... it's
  65. cool when you know NOTHING apparently, "image" is
  66. everything there and if you don't know who is Gordie Howe
  67. you are a typical student apparently ... dumb jocks, pretty
  68. girls mistreating her, bla-bla.

  70. David Arquette is so annoying as Drew's brother, he's
  71. supposed to be the lousy brother who comes back to high
  72. school to make people think Drew is REALLY cool ... it's
  73. not even mentioned that he looks like he's 32 years old !

  76. I didn't buy Drew as a nerdy girl either, she was doing her
  77. best though, nice effort in the so-called romance dept.
  78. too, but I just didn't care for her and her character, not
  79. her fault as even if it had starred an actress I liked more
  80. it wouldn't have made any difference.  I was cringing often
  81. watching this seriously flawed movie ... 
  82.  
  83. Ebert gave 3/4 to that one ?? Gimme a break, Roger !!  He
  84. seems to have a thing for High school comedies, didn't he
  85. also like the recent "Sugar and spice" ??  Also a 3/4 for
  86. "Final destination" ... Roger is losing it ??!! ... 
  87. 1/5 seems more appropriate !!

  89. I was reminded of the awful "Home fries" also with Drew,
  90. but I think "Never been kissed" is even worse if that is
  91. even possible !!

  118. Morgan Freeman is DOOMED !!

  120. It's a prequel to "Kiss the girls" if I am not mistaken ...
  121. Here are some comments made by the people involved, imagine
  122. people talking like that at a press junket ... You have to
  123. appreciate their honesty !!

  128. really messed up the adaptation ..."

  152. Ok, this movie wasn't so bad, but it wasn't so good either,
  153. 2.5/5 ... It was on a downhill in the 2nd half though and
  154. near the end I was hesitating between 2 and 2.5/5 but
  155. decided I should be generous, especially since the teens in
  156. that film were actually smarter than in most movies (Like
  157. "Never been kissed" I just saw recently for example !)
  158. The guys and girls in this movie were geniuses in
  159. comparison !
  160.  
  161. The movie is set in a high school and students are 
  162. worried that their teachers are now ALIENS, having been
  163. contaminated by an organism from outer space that makes 
  164. its way to the brains of the victims through their ears,
  165. gross !  They try to deal with this "situation" in the
  166. usual way ... hehe ! Yeah, right !  ;-)   
  167.  
  168. Elijah Wood plays the geeky kid and you know that he'll
  169. turn out to be the hero if you have seen a few of those
  170. teen horror films !  Robert Patrick is also good as the
  171. nasty football coach who is the first alien "victim" !
  172.  
  173. One of the first things I noticed was how LOUD the movie
  174. was, music blasting in the speakers often, kind of annoying
  175. !  At one point they even use "Another brick in the wall"
  176. from Pink Floyd, shame on them ! ... People popping up
  177. behind one of the characters and a LOUD noise is heard to
  178. scare you, etc.  It wasn't really frightening anyway
  179. because it was so over-the-top I was laughing in part ...
  180. ;-)

  182. Some scenes are pulled right out of other movies, "Aliens",
  183. "The thing", "The hidden" ... only not as effective of
  184. course ... I was kind of shocked at the drug use in this
  185. movie as well. They make it seem cool to take drugs
  186. actually, bizarre ... Supposidely the aliens who take this
  187. particular drug die instantly, some kind of powder that is
  188. sniffed ... so at one point all the members of the group
  189. have to take that drug to prove they are not aliens ... a
  190. bit ridiculous !  
  191.  
  192. The special effects were good though, I liked it when that
  193. alien jumped in the swimming pool, nice work ... but why
  194. was it so DARK all the time near the end ?  Bad lighting,
  195. so I couldn't distinguish very well all the details,
  196. reminded me of those strip clubs where the lights are so
  197. dimmed you can't really *see* anything, you can only
  198. *sense* it ... oops .. I mean .. from what I have HEARD !

  236. I saw that film last night, not a whole lot to say about it
  237. either, 2.5/5 ... It's virtually a remake of the original
  238. film and the 1976 film is superior in nearly every aspect
  239. actually.

  241. Unpopular girl with telekynesic (spelling !?) powers is
  242. "tricked" into attending a party by the "pretty people" ...
  243. and then is the victim of a cruel prank, then all hell
  244. breaks lose ... fire, explosions, harpoons, etc.

  246. A bizarre "contest" in the middle of this, football players
  247. getting points when they sleep with underaged girls ?? Oh
  248. please !  Of course they act like jerks ! Those jocks were
  249. getting on my nerves !

  251. I liked the love story with that boy though, just like in
  252. the original "Carrie", how that boy was nice to Sissy
  253. Spacek !

  255. The girl (Emilie Bergl, not sure !) in the lead was ok
  256. though, the other characters kept saying she was ugly, but
  257. I thought she was actually pretty cute myself !  ;-)   Her
  258. mom is in an insane asylum and the high school guidance
  259. person (played by Amy Irving !) is doing her best to help
  260. her out ... all of this is very predictable anyway ...

  263. to scare us ... t'wasn't really working !

  466. Alright, I saw this film last night and thought it was
  467. simply terrible ... 1 out of 5 seems appropriate.

  469. It is hard to find anything positive to say about this film
  470. actually except maybe the special effects and the Aerosmith
  471. music sometimes that were ok ... besides that it was indeed
  472. a disaster.

  474. Awful dialogues, silly characters, sappy la-la story in
  475. part, all the way to the pathetic ending ... ludicrous
  476. story with 101 plot holes and things that don't make sense,
  477. they should have been killed 67 times at least IMO so as
  478. you can imagine I was rolling my eyes back big time, in
  479. fact if I had not been sitting I might have fallen ... hehe
  480. ! You stop caring for the characters because it's so "out
  481. there" all the time ... not to mention extremely L_O_U_D !!
  482.  
  483. Simple story, a huge asteroid will collide with Earth and
  484. destroy everything in 3 weeks or so ... can the americans
  485. save the world ??  hehe !!  Everyone on the entire planet
  486. is helpless of course and the best guys to do the job are a
  487. bunch of Yahoos from Hickville, USA ... The relief !!  They
  488. need to drill a hole in the bugger, drop the nuke inside
  489. and blow it to kingdom come .. or whatever ...

  491. After the first 30 painful minutes I actually said that I
  492. wish I could use a CATTLE PROD on most of these characters
  493. to SHOCK them back into reality ... getting drunk,

  498. actually ... why go for the funny bits like that, the film

  949. I watched this comedy again, I had seen it about 10-12
  950. years ago probably ... so-so material IMO but it has sort
  951. of a cult following ... 2.5/5
  952.  
  953. It wasn't boring at least, well, besides an oh-so obvious
  954. s*b plot about a so-called romance between John Candy's
  955. teenage son and a lil' girlie he meets while on vacation
  956. ... (Rolling my eyes back !)
  957.  
  958. In fact every time the movie was focusing on that "couple"
  959. the same silly elevator music could be heard on the
  960. soundtrack ... after the 3rd time or so I was actually
  961. rocking from side-to-side gently, pretending I was enjoying
  962. the music  (The girl watching it with me was laughing so I
  963. guess she was agreeing it was a rather ludicrous twist !)
  964.

  967. Good work in general by the actors involved : Dan Aykroyd,
  968. John Candy, Supporting cast ... 
  969.  
  970. Some jokes are funny like when Candy is waterskiing, those
  971. naughty raccoons hogging food or when Bart-The-Bear jumps
  972. on him near the end ... while others are just unbelievable
  973. or silly so it's a hit-and-miss movie ... 
  974.  
  975. Side note I REALLY enjoyed the ending credits with the song
  976. "Land of a 1,000 dances" and Aykroyd going wild, dancing
  977. and having fun with other cast members ... that was a
  978. highlight ... I mean I was LOVING IT !!  ;-)
  979.  
  980. Unfortunately, I can't recommend the film overall even if
  981. it wasn't awful, cutting a few silly scenes and especially
  982. the "romantic" subplot would have helped ...

  1079.  
  1080. Low budget film about a cop who is a bit too trigger happy
  1081. (Shot 3 bad guys in less than a year !) so he is asked to
  1082. become part of a special unit of the police force that
  1083. "takes care" of career criminals without worrying too much
  1084. about the law ... a-la Dirty Harry basically ... wasting
  1085. bad guys and not doing any paperwork, you know the drill
  1086. ... 
  1087.  
  1088. I thought it was entertaining for the most part even if the
  1089. plot is quite unoriginal since it's the oooooooooooold
  1090. lady-in-trouble-rescued-by-an-outlaw-cop trick ... Only
  1091. contains material that I had seen before in other films and
  1092. or TV shows like "Miami vice" ... 
  1093.  
  1094. Nice stunts, action sequences, shoot outs, scenes in strip
  1095. clubs, etc.  So it's definitely a "guy flick" ...
  1096.  
  1097. Stephen Baldwin, Chazz Palminteri, Tia Carrere ... the
  1098. acting is not so great or memorable ... so-so dialogues and
  1099. plot twists but you can't be too picky with such a film !

  1397. money in the 80's writing stories for the Alf sit com if I
  1398. am not mistaken !!  Anyway they changed the name of the
  1399. program in the movie ...

  1402. of all kinds basically ...At least he EXERCISED, running 
  1403. 5 milles daily before shooting up in the bathroom at work

  1414. baby daughter is in the car seat next to him ... phew !
