I liked Life Less Ordinary, but not that much. It seemed like it had
some great things to it and aspects, as well as talent, and a few good
twists on worn ideas. But, the story just seemed weak, with some parts that
just made you groan or sigh. The whole angel thing was kind of out there,
even though the characters were funny.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Jim Carrey, Don Knotts, Roberta Flack and Sting
are among those who will be honored on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
next year. Nineteen stars will be dedicated, including ones to late
actor Phil Silvers, rock groups Kiss and Aerosmith and Las Vegas
showmen Siegfried & Roy. "The year 2000 will herald in many wonderful
things, including our newest Walk of Fame recipients," Hollywood's
honorary mayor Johnny Grant said Tuesday. The stars were picked from
hundreds of nominations received by the Walk of Fame Committee of the
Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. Inductees were ratified June 10 by the
chamber board of directors. Sponsors pay $15,000 and, with the
exception of posthumous stars, promise the celebrity will appear for
the curbside ceremony.
Other inductees include actress Jodie Foster, actor Peter O'Toole,
director Rob Reiner, director Irwin Winkler, actor Ted Danson,
actress June Foray, actor Carroll O'Connor, actor Kevin Spacey and
talk show host Cristina Saralegui. Radio personality Johnny Hayes
will also get a star. Recipients in the recording category include
Carol Bayer Sager.

VENICE, Italy (AP) - "Eyes Wide Shut" will open the Venice Film
Festival Sept. 1 in its first European screening. The stars, Tom
Cruise and Nicole Kidman, and director Stanley Kubrick's widow will
attend the event, the festival said Tuesday. Kubrick died in March
after finishing the movie. The tale of jealousy and sexual obsession
is set to open July 16 in the U.S. The European premiere will serve
as "a graceful tribute to one of the great masters in the history of
cinema," festival director Alberto Barbera said.

(Launch) - Audiences in the U.K. may finally get another chance to
see Stanley Kubrick's acclaimed film "A Clockwork Orange" - only 28
years after it was withdrawn by Warner Bros. in its initial run.
Daily Variety reports that the studio is knee-deep in negotiations
with Kubrick's family, in an effort to get them to lift a blockade
the filmmaker imposed which stopped the movie from being shown in
U.K. theaters all those years ago. Kubrick, who died suddenly March
7, had banned the film from theaters in the country where he lived
after accusations flew that some of the film's violent scenes were
being emulated by real-life criminals. "A Clockwork Orange," based on
Anthony Burgess' groundbreaking novel, centered on a vicious gang
leader in the future, and a governmental attempt to brainwash him
into becoming a law-abiding citizen. Kubrick's final film, "Eyes Wide
Shut," starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, opens July 16.

(Launch) - Michael Douglas is attached to star and Frank Oz is
attached to direct "The Score." The thriller tells the story of a
gentleman thief who is forced by a younger, more dangerous criminal
to take part in one last big score. Oz has directed such films as "In
and Out," "What About Bob?" and "Little Shop of Horrors." Douglas has
starred in films such as "Romancing the Stone," "Wall Street" and
"Basic Instinct."

(Launch) - Singer/actress Courtney Love, who is the lead singer of
the group Hole, and has starred in such hits as "The People vs. Larry
Flynt," has signed on for her next feature film. According to the
Hollywood Reporter, Love will next be seen starring in "Beat." The
plot is based on the true story of the love affair between Lucien
Carr and Joan Burroughs, who will be played by Love. Joan Burroughs
was the wife of Naked Lunch author William Burroughs, who
accidentally killed her in a shooting accident. Actor Norman Reedus,
who was last seen on the big screen starring opposite Nicolas Cage in
the film "8mm," will take on the role of Carr. Although there was no
word available on when the movie is scheduled to hit theaters,
insiders says that shooting is expected to get underway July 26 in
Mexico City.

Subject: [MV] STARSHIP TROOPERS
I read in Premiere (French edition) that Starship Troopers did not work as Verhoven would have excepted in USA. It seemed like, in general, in the US you saw the film as a Nazi's propaganda. I believe that is the contrary as Verhoven laughed at his characters.
I really liked this film for his irony about war.
I'd like to know your point of view,
Patrick

Subject: [MV] Psycho & A Simple Plan
I just watched the new Psycho movie and found myself cringing quite often.
For starters I couldn't understand Sam's lines. I'm from the south and
actually carry a southern accent myself but at least people can understand
what I'm saying. 2.) When Anne Heche is in the shower it looks like she
spotted something on her shoulder that caught her by surprise and then she
resumed the scene. The delay in response when the shower curtain was thrown
open was laughable. The worse scene of them all is when Norman Bates
repeats blood, blood, blood, blood as he's running down the stairs to the
motel. Anyone else wish they would have seen this movie prior to buying it
on DVD?
I found A Simple Plan very enjoyable even though I don't care too much for
Bill Paxton. The plot had a few interesting twists that makes this movie a
definite keeper.
