I just saw Shakespeare in Love last night and I think that it SHOULD win the Oscar. Am I the only one rooting for this film to win against Saving Private Ryan. I mean SPR is an excellent film but SIL totally blew me away. Excellent performances, brilliant script...if only we live in a just world.

Who's arguing that it doesn't deserve THE Oscar? And as far as a "just
world" is concerned, not while the current Academy voters are alive...

Um, hopefully it's not that Titanic script parody that's been circulating
on the Internet for over a year. I've received that more times than I can
count, both on various mailing lists and from friends that thought I would
get a kick out of it.

Subject: [MV] Analyze This 8MM reviews
1st 8MM:
I have got to say that this was the first time in all of movie history that
an entire movie was filmed in slow motion! It made this wonderful 2 hour
movie seem like 4 hours - which means I got 2 movies for the price of none
(since my buddy just got a Famous Players Gold Card thingy which enabled us
to get in free). Joel Schumaker - the genius behind the box-office and
critical smash Batman and Robin - sure likes to keep the budget on the tight
side. By not using any sources of lighting for this film he actually saved
$42 in lightbulbs! This movie also marks the first time when the stand in
for Nic Cage was in more shots thatn Nic Cage - "Uh - Nic this scene has
some dialogue and acting in it" - "Don't worry - my stand in can handle it."
A lot of firsts for this movie - including it's wonderfully predictable
script - not since the Mr. Tickle books has a storyline been so obvious.
When Seven was a big hit they went to the writer and said "Do you have
anything else on your shelf we could buy?" and he replied "Well I have this
really old script from the seventh grade..." - "Great we'll take it!" Also
the title was changed once they finished filming to 8MM because the Never
Ending Story was already taken (and actually - I think they are still
filming more scenes for this movie). Due to the snoring of the gentleman
behind me (honestly) I missed some of the clever witty lines like "Drop the
Crossbow" - yep you guessed it - another first in cinematic history! So I
can't help but give this masterpiece a failing mark!
Analyse this however is another story altogether (considering that they were
written by two different people). This movie had problems right off the
bat. First off there were too many laughs. There's nothing more irritating
watching a movie and missing some of it because everyone is laughing - if I
wanted to laugh I would go to see 8MM. I mean just because the script is
funny and Billy Crystal plays his best role in years doesn't mean that you
have to laugh every time something funny happens. And then you've got
Bobby. The typical gangster - the stereotypical gangster if you will -
without which this film would have been a lot better - I mean - who could
even believe Robert DeNiro as a gangster?! I would have much prefered
someone like Christopher Lloyd - especially after the recent hit My
Favourite Martian. But DeNiro comes in there and gives us some comic timing
like you couldn't believe - harking back to Midnight Run. But Lisa Kudrow
was good - at least that's something - she is allowed to continue her
character that she made famous on Friends. Now even though the characters
have different names - they are the same people. She was in no way an
intrusion in the film's humour. I am upset that they had to stick to the
premise as much as they did though - I mean I much prefer a movie to promise
us something in the preview and then hardly give us enough to whet our
appetite. Take the enourmous success of Michael Richard's movie Trial and
Error - in which we are promised through previews that we will get Michael
acting zany as he pretends that he is a lawyer - but instead the movie is
thankfully filled with Jeff Daniels and his search for new meaning in life.
I think Jeff Daniels knows how to pick the sure-fires as he was also in this
year's My Favourite Martian. Anyway - anyalyze this deserves to be not seen
by anyone as I give it an 86%.
movieman
ps - if it is not obvious - take the opposite of everything I said to be my
opinion(except the rankings)!

Thanks for the excuse but the only problem is that it wasn't me who
asked for the jokes and the info. Not that I would mind hearing them
after all but I honestly don't know who you are. Maybe you mixed up some
e-mailadresses. For the record: my name is Ralph Essers and I'm from the
Netherlands. If you still want to mail with me after you received this
message just reply to it and I'll send you some more info about me.

Subject: [MV] Nemesis
A few days ago, someone here was asking about the Nemesis series,
specifically Nemesis 4. She was unable to find it at here local video
store. I had thought it was available, but couldn't find it in our inventory.
I just got a notice: Nemesis 4 will be released on video on 27 April in
the US.
Hope this helps.
