I would venture to ask, "Has anyone NOT seen it?" I own the Criterion
LaserDisc Edition and it is by far the best version that exists. I have a
lot of comments on it, where would you like to begin?

So are you an idiot, or illerate?? Can you not READ what is at the bottom
of EVERY message that comes over this list??
Personally, I get tired of listening to this crap. And as if your
inability to unsub (with bleeding DIRECTIONS) wasn't an indication of your
intelligence, your inability to use words with more than four letters just
confirms what is evident.
Better idea. Shut off the computer. Take it back to the shop you bought
it. Ask for your money back. And when they ask why, tell them that you
are too bloody stupid to own a computer!!!!

Dear Sir/Madam:
This morning, I had the dubious pleasure of opening my mailbox, and
downloading nearly a dozen messages from one of your subscribers, going by
the name "choquette" and having the email address <choquett@pe.net>.
The messages in question were part of a mailing list that both choquette
and myself subscribe to. Although I am in no way part of the management of
the mailing list in question, I am bothered by a number of actions that
your subscriber has taken. As the messages from this subscriber are coming
into my mailbox, I am affected here.
First of all, some background. This is an opt-in mailing list concerning
reviews of movies. One must subscribe to receive posts to this list. I
have chosen to be subscribed, and due to controls on this list, we must
assume that choquette has also chosen to be here. In addition, EACH AND
EVERY piece of mail received from this mailing list has unsubscribe
instruction; however, choquette has failed to unsubscribe.
The emails in question (one of which I have forwarded to you, and I would
be willing to forward as many as you need) have been quite abusive, and
each and every one of her posts have contained profanity. This is
bordering on spam.
At this time, I am not sure of your policies concerning use of your
service. However, as a member of CAUCE, I can only say that this type of
abuse is not tolerated on to vast majority of the internet. At this time,
I am not asking that the email account of choquette be suspended, but I
think that her ISP needs to issue a warning about what is and is not
acceptable behaviour.
If I can be of any further assistance to you, please to not hesitate to
contact me.

When i watched the top 100 movies ever on tv, before i had claimed
myself as the movie queen, because i had seen so many. But I realized i
really hadn't seen that many movies made before the 80s (I'm only 17).
So i set off on my quest to see some of the top 100 that looked of
interest. I've seen probably 40 something of them now. I remember when
i went and saw MAFIA! with a huge group of friends (we took up over a
row...) i was the only one in the group that had seen The Godfather
(which the whole movie was a spoof of!). Same with 2001: a space
odyssey. I went out and asked all my friends if they had seen it so we
could talk about it...only no one had seen it before! no one from my
generation has seen any of these movies! After i watched "..Odyssey" i
was like "woah!" It's hard to even describe it or compare it with any
other movie, even to rate it, because it was unlike anything i've ever
seen. Someone began to tell me the symbolism in the movie...if only
they had been there sitting beside as i watched it!
What do you think was your favorite part? Or how do you describe
it? I would love to hear anything you have to say on it!

OOOOO... The Criterion! Is there much extra footage? I recently sold my
Laserdisc player and movies to buy a DVD. I haven't yet seen 2001 released
yet. I can't wait!

Danielle,
Well, better late then never. ;)
> What do you think was your favorite part? Or how do you describe

Oh no, an open ended question. :) I admit that when I first watched it
about 10 years ago (I'm 24 now) I enjoyed the movie, yet didn't understand
all the complexities. As I've watched it over the years, I've found more
and more complex images in it.
First and foremost, why I enjoy the movie. It is a FANTASTIC example of
how to create a movie experience that is extremely immersive. The suspense
created throughout the entire movie is largely due to the "real-time"
experiences that the audience shares with the on-screen personas. When we
are inside the suits as they approach the monolith on the Moon and hear
their breathing getting faster and faster... when we don't HEAR sound in
space (like other sci-fi movies do) ... when we experience the frustration
Dave has in space trying to capture his lost comrade ... when we watch,
eerily as HAL reads the crews lips... the utter silence as the crew health
modules are shut down and no one can stop it... Just a few.
Plus, as the story is told in the future, you don't just "get there" and
have a movie. The AT&T phone call is delayed like in real life. The
shuttle landing on the moon is slow, almost painfully... but oh so enjoyable.
Some would say it is like an Opera in space. I would agree only on the
surface. Both an opera and 2001 are extremely enjoyable even if you don't
comprehend the meanings (opera is usually in another language, for
example). But like opera, 2001 takes it's time -- which is WONDERFUL -- in
telling it's story. There is nothing rushed. And it leaves certain issues
for the viewer to resolve within themselves. In 2001, you are left to
"understand" or "figure out" why the monoliths exist where they are at.
What each one does.
Anyway, I have more but that's enough for today -- work's almost over. But
that's only the beginning of why I enjoy it. Feel free to email directly
if you wish.

Ryan Allen

21. "A woman should never learn to sew, and if she does know how, she
