The pure definiton of a summer blockbuster - loud, fast paced, energetic
and most importantly - fun! I was really going into this one not expecting
much - kinda though it would be like Independence Day - but this one was
really a hoot! Sure it had stereotypes and caricatures but that is all
part of the fun in this kind of movie. It was definitely more involving
than ID4 or Godzilla - but also it is not a thinking man's movie! And sure
it was very Americana - I mean there were more US flags in this movie than
in Air Force One and ID4 put together! But they did attempt to involve the
rest of the world in the crisis (kinda) - although it still is up to the
good ole U.S. of A. to save the world! If you can buy the whole premise -
that NASA has to send up oil drillers instead of professionally trained
astronauts - then you're in for a wild ride! I give it an 87%.

Vanessa Marcil, best known as Nicolas Cage's love interest in "The
Rock," has signed for two indie films - "Nice Guys Sleep Alone" and
"This Space Between Us." For "Nice Guys," a romantic comedy written
and directed by Stu Pollard, Marcil will star opposite Sean O'Bryan
in the story of two adults caught in the dating world. "This Space,"
in which Marcil co-stars with Jeremy Sisto, is the story of a
filmmaker dealing with the death of his wife. It is scripted and
helmed by Matthew Leutwyler. Both pictures are slated for a spring
'99 release. (Reuters/Variety)

Yusheng Gou,
You might want to keep an eye out for Lethal Weapon 4 opening soon. It stars Jet
Li! :) For those not around Asia, he's nearly as big as Jackie Chan, who was in
Rumble in the Bronx, by the way.

Ryan,
Oh yes, my all time favourite is Crimson Tide. In fact, all 3 movies done by
Jerry Bruckheimer (starting with Crimson Tide, The Rock and, recently, Con Air)
are quite good movies.
Hmm... most LD collectors are migrating over to DVD format... aren't you?
