Subject: [MV] 6 Days / 7 Nights
We went to this movie because it was my wife's choice. I was setting it up
to pick the next movie, which will be, of course, the X-Files. Ironically,
6 days/7 nights is how long I have to wait to see my pick:-)
First of all, some other posters have mentioned Anne Hence's sexual
orentiation. Others have taken exception to this. However, the problem is
not that she is involved with Ellen, per se, but that we have heard about
it non-stop for the past year. All actors bring baggage to their roles;
this is what this actress has to carry.
It was pretty easy to get over seeing this face every week in the checkout
queue; however, some of the lines were made unintentionally funny, in a
sophamoric type of way. Just as Hence brought a year's worth of media
prying to the party, Ford brought his cinematic history along. Everyone
might have been saying Quinn, but this guy on the screen was Indy to me.
Having said that, I thought it was a good movie. It was not marketed
towards me (hence my wife's interest in it), so it was not Ford's usual
action picture. It had enough to keep his Han/Indy/Jack Ryan fans
interested, but with the romance crowd thrown in. Better than Sabrinia,
not as good as his signature hits. As happens when you try to please
everyone, no one is completely satisfied. All in all, I did not feel that
it was a waste of $20 (2 tickets plus snacks), which puts it marginally
ahead of Titanic in that regard.
Tomorrow of course is the big day. Something like The X-Files must be seen
on opening night, or else by the next time I could see it, I would have
heard everyone else's opinion. This movie has a lot going for it going in,
let's hope that it can meet expectations.

Critics were chilly, to say the least, toward the "X-Files"
movie, which opened today. "One more summertime fizzle,"
declared The New York Times, which called it "a middling,
unfocused action-adventure with brand-name appeal." "You'll
be as befuzzled [sic] when you go as when you came," said
The Washington Post. Perhaps its creators simply watched too
much television.

Producer Tim Burton has reportedly said he wants Leonardo
DiCaprio to play Robin in the next "Batman" feature. In the
scenario, the Boy Wonder (up until now played by Chris
O'Donnell) will get killed by the evil villain Scarecrow, to
be played by "Trainspotting"'s Ewan McGregor. As for the
Caped Crusader: Goodbye, George Clooney. Hello, Kurt
Russell.

I was just wondering. Seems strange to me that no one ever came up with
the idea of making a big budget "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory"
sequel with Charlie as the new head of the chocolate factory. The first
movie became such a classic, it seems like a "Willy Wonka II" would be a
sure-fire hollywood money maker.
In the remake department. Wouldn't an updated "Creature From the Black
Lagoon" be great! Keep it pretty much the same but add some 21st century
special effects to make the monster really come alive!
Can anyone think of any other overlooked sequels and remakes??

John Carpenter has been trying to do a remake of "Creature from the Black
Lagoon" for several years, so you may be seeing one.

I think that there should be a sequal to the movie "My best friends wedding". Because none of us wanted it to end that way and i think that there would be a good audience who would go and see what else could happen to the story.

Subject: [MV] X-Files review
The first time a movie based on a TV show opened in theatres while the TV
show was currently in production. A difficult task - when you think of
Star Trek and its popularity, it had at least 2 years after the final
episode aired on TV until the first Next Gen movie hit the screens.
X-Files however, will be going back into another season after this summer.
So how do they attract a paying audience that can see virtually the same
thing for free on TV? Make it big...make a lot of promises...reveal
secrets...raise more questions...huge special effects...make it a global
threat...and above all make it interesting! I think they have accomplished
this feat very well. Now I have to say that I am a fan of the X-Files
though I am not an X-phile (an avid fan) so I knew a lot of background
before going in. I'm not sure how entertaining this would be without that
knowledge - but I am sure that you will not get lost in it. Very fast
paced and exciting. If you like the show (and who doesn't, really?!) then
definitely check this out! I give it an 86% and I can't wait for next
season to start!
p.s. do not expect to see the Star Wars preview attached to this film - it
is not! (some people heard that it might have been!)

Subject: [MV] Wild Man Blues review
A documentary about Woody Allen playing his clarinet? Yep. It is
interesting actually - but I must warn you that if you are not a fan of the
Woodster then I would not see this pic if I were you! Definitely for fans
only. It does have some fun insights into Allen's day to day life while on
this tour across Europe. Some funny bits along with a lot of New Orleans
Jazz and Blues. And while I still have your attention ************ If you
like Woody Allen then you should also check out Death (a play) which is a
part of The Scaffold Theatre Project this summer on July 26th and 27th. It
is a play he wrote and is very funny. It is free to see it and is located
on the roof of Jackson Square Mall. Call 905-308-9492 for more details!
************* The movie I would rate a 70% due to sustained interest but
not much more.
